The Myth of the 99%, The Truth of the 1%

Dear Readers:

I was recently described as "a voice in the wilderness" by one who's opinion I respect. There is truth to that statement. The reason is voices like mine do no get heavy play in the media because we do not adhere to the common template. Page after page, day after day, and even parts of two "Bruce The Blog Goes Bazzo" cable T.V. show of which I am Co-Host along with Mayor Of Pennysvaer Community, Bruce Apar was devoted to the Occupy Wall Street movement as if they really stood for a popular train of thought. The OWS movement and their "we are the 99%" was the common template.

Yes, even I got caught up in that template. It was because alternate thought was not given play time. Now it comes out there was a Gallup Poll (http://www.gallup.com/poll/1675/most-important-problem.aspx) that showed only 2% consider the divide between rich and poor a primary concern this election season. What leads the top concern's are jobs, the national debt, continuing economic decline, outsourcing, and politicians' bickering . The divide between rich and poor is at the bottom of the list.

So why the disparity? As I have written before, the media is invested in the re-election of President Obama. So they put their weight behind his campaign of class envy. This continuing barrage of negativism is paying dividends. According to the same Gallup Poll, people are less concerned about what they have and are more concerned what somebody else has. People are actually believing that the road block to their prosperity is the rich not paying enough in taxes.

Fact is that the top 1% pay over 40% of all income taxes. More to the point, people making under 100,000.00 paid just 7.2%, while those making 1 million dollars or more paid 24.6%. I have yet to figure out how confiscating the wealth of the Bill gates, Warren Buffets et.al. would improve my or anyone else's lot in life. Here is a fact for you to chew on. The government last year spent 1.5 trillion dollars more than we took in. Yet if we confiscated all of the 1%'s wealth it would only amount to $721 billion dollars.

The outcome would be no money for investments in new jobs or the creation of new businesses. For it is from that 1% that all opportunity comes from. It is they who have the money to lend or the business that hire. It is from them that "American exceptionalism" is begat. The idea that one would, could and should profit from their risks and ideas is what set this country apart from the rest of the world.

If the majority of the envious were unhappy with what they had, that would mean they wouldn't care what anybody else has. They would do what they had to do to improve their lot in life. They would make better choices. Right now the choice they make is the world owes them a living. ,Right now this choice represents an opportunity for the class envy warriors to go out and exploit them. This is my opinion, you may beg to differ.
