Has President Obama come to a Lyndon Johnson moment?

Dear Readers:

To those readers where Vietnam and student protests of the '60's is not a history lesson the question is has President Obama come to a Lyndon Johnson moment? Protesters have taken to the streets. Soldiers are dying in overseas wars. Real inflation is on the rise. Gas and food prices are higher that a year ago. People feel the President is out of touch with the populace.

The only thing missing is actual racial inequity. To be clear, it is not like the sixties. God, to ignore the progress made, and the dumbing down of those terms. Other countries may still have these problems is worse case scenarios, but our advancements over them can not be ignored. There is economic inequity that crosses all lines. There are those who wish to keep people in perpetual victim hood, there bye relieving them of responsibility of their personal choices. My statement in 2011 is accurate and acknowledges progress made.

Now prominent Democrat talking heads have written an editorial in The Wall Street Journal (11/21/11) suggesting that for the good of the party, for the good of the country, President Obama declare he will not seek re-election. In a piece titled "The Hillary Moment"
by former Carter pollster Pat Caddell and former Clinton pollster Doug Schoen, they make a compelling argument that Obama should step out of next years presidential elections. They believe should he step down, that Hillary Clinton would get the nod by acclimation.

The thrust of their argument is that Obama has lost the support of the people and even should he win, will not be able to govern. Not only that, but by being on the ticket, he will bring the rest of the party down to depths not seen since 1952.

They argue that to win, Obama must wage such a "scorched earth" campaign, he would never get any legislation passed. He can't run on four more years of this. High unemployment, lousy housing market, energy costs through the roof, and the implementation of "Obama Care" whether the Supreme Court legalizes it or not.

No, the campaign now being waged, and only to get worse, is to scare the electorate into not voting Republican. You see it now, Republicans want grandma to die, are in favor of dirty air and water, are in the pocket of the rich, and want the poor to starve. He is acting like he just got to Washington, by running against a congress that has only been in power 11 months, hoping people forget he had both legislative branches for his first two years, and no matter what he inherited, his policies over those two year have only exasperated them.

Caddell and Schoen are right. Obama will assure Republicans control of both legislative houses. He must step out of the race like Johnson and Truman before him. Hillary would get the nod. That would be better for the party. However I am not so sure it would be better for the country. This is my opinion, you may beg to differ.

A "Do-Nothing" Congress Is A Good Thing

Dear Readers:

You are being told my the stenographers in the media that the "super committee" was a failure. These same people are telling you that congress is at it's lowest poll numbers because that have not accomplished anything. These conclusions are born of a mind set that government is and has the answers to our problems. It does not for it can not.

That the "super committee" has done nothing is only good news for us. We have a 1.4 trillion dollar deficit. We are 9 trillion dollars in debt. Yet these smartest people in the room could not find 1.2 trillion dollars over ten years to cut from government spending without increasing taxes. That is because those institutionalized government officials really and truly do not believe government can not do with less.

This committee was bound to fail because the playbook of the President is to run against a "do-nothing" congress and there is no way the Democrats on this committee would allow any accomplishment for it would negate the President's re-election agenda. Proof of that is that the Republicans did offer 500 million dollars in revenue enhancements (read that as increased taxes) and the Democrats walked out of the room.

This bring us to the second point, congresses' poll numbers. The Republicans were voted control of Congress not to work with the democrats and the President, but to thwart and overturn the havoc they wrecked on this economy during their two years of total government control. That the establishment Republicans did what they always do, compromise their principals to look like they are reasonable people, to get good reviews in the media, is why their numbers are low.

They truly believe that last November was an aberration. They think voters had a temper tantrum and cooler heads must prevail. They too think that they know what's best, not the voters. The "tea Party" anger that gave Republicans control of Congress has not waned, it has grown angrier.

Look at the debates. Romney represents the establishment Republicans and he can not garner more that 25% of support. The anti-establishment is still a strong 75%. This is telling.

The real problem is that both parties are still doing what they think will keep them in power. Trying to get re-elected is more important than doing what they were elected to do. For that a pox on both their houses. This is my opinion, you may beg to differ.

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE PEEKSKILL CITY COUNCIL:A Bazzo Editorial: Treating People Like Garbage Just To Be Fair

Dear Readers:
AN OPEN LETTER TO THE PEEKSKILL CITY COUNCIL:

Item: Taxi cab fees have jumped from $260.00 a year to 335.00 a year. Hack licence was $125.00, now $175.00 That money does not go to the Police Department for enforcement, but to the general fund. Now you may be told that these monies are earmarked and allocated when the police budget is allocated. However like the lottery where those monies are said to go to education, it is not in addition to what would be allocated, but in lieu of monies allocated.

Item: The original intent of the taxi code review was to get a handle on cars and drivers. Part of that intent was a moratorium on new cars and drivers. It was allowed to expire. I was told be elected officials that there was not time for another public hearing to extend it. Who's fault is that? The moratorium extended thru August, September and October. Instead of keeping track and updated on the status, these politicians were TOO busy running for office to give a damn. Their desire for power superceded the needs of these small business owners. It was easier to let the moratorium expire and raise fees. Bottom line is that the council made it more expensive to do business and harder to make up those increased costs by allowing more cars and drivers on the road. Everything for their convenience.

Item: All new codes treat everyone at the lowest common denominator. We are to be treated like the worst among us. We are all potential drug addicts, reckless drivers and possible criminals. Those whose records shows excellent driving, no criminal convictions, or even allegations, are not rewarded for their efforts, but treated like crap. Being a law abiding citizen is a negative, you are lumped in with all the rest. Playing by the rules means nothing. Yet because when you read the papers, you see everyday another corrupt official in the federal cross hairs, if I were to lump all elected officials as corrupt, they would scream like stuck pigs saying that is not fair, look at my record. Take that into consideration. Well, I am saying the same thing, look at my record and take that into consideration. Why are my costs increasing (fingerprinting and drug testing) to pay for the sins of others. Why are my taxi fees increasing because you were so busy looking out for your self interest, you neglected mine.

Item: Like I wrote before, the council is hell bent on raising our liability, and therefore our insurance costs by thousands of dollars. This despite the fact they must have state approval. This despite the fact that we are in a recession and it is not projected to end anytime soon. Again, the lowest common denominator. No matter how long you have driven with a good record, you must be punished. By God you will be punished.

There is something inherently wrong with a mind set that believes you treat everyone like crap just to be fair. There is nothing fair about that. It is no way to treat law abiding small business owners.

Anthony J. Bazzo 11/17/11

P.S. BTW: I have been told by unofficial sources that there is an upcomming meeting about the liability issue. Why have I nor other taxi owners been notified. Is it because you do not want us there when you shaft us?

a.b.

P.P.S.: Total Increases:
Car: Lic: $75.00 Inspection: Was $40.00 Now: $50.0 $10.00 increase

Licence: $50.00
Finger Print:$84.00 plus gas and time to Mahopac
Drug test: $48.00 plus time

Normal time to renew: 45 minutes Now:3 days---45 minutes per day

Obama's Job Creation Lies

Dear Readers:

One day the members of private sector unions will wake up and figure out that government wishes to stamp you out. All they really want are public sector unions, which they can control. Government controls the purse strings. Those public monies are used to pay wages, benefits and pensions of public sector workers.
You donate to their campaigns and in return, we will protect you and your job even if it means economic ruin of the private sector.

It is those evil corporations that employ private sector unions. Every dime taken from the private sector for government use is money the private sector can not use for workers compensation and hiring. One day these private sector union workers will wake up to this reality.

Case in point. The Keystone XL pipeline. This pipeline would pass through Montana, South Dakota, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Texas. It is estimated it would bring in more than 700,000 barrels of oil per day from Alberta, Canada, to the Texas Gulf coast. Now after four years of revue after revue after revue it has been put on hold till after next years elections by the Obama Administration to keep the tree huggers in their camp. This was even after the State Department’s recent Environmental Impact Statement found that the pipeline would pose few environmental risks.

This means that the estimated 25,000 private sector union jobs, the 100,000 private support jobs from new investments in small business and the projected $5.2 billion in property tax revenue as a result of building the pipeline are on hold till after 2012 just so those anti-energy people will continue to elect Democrats.

As I have pointed out before, high energy prices we experience are not by accident but by design. This would not lower prices with new oil, but stabilize prices by making up the lose of oil from Venezuela. It is the stabilization of the free flow of oil that calms the markets.

So during this new election cycle when you hear the President and Democrat Party leaders talk about job creation, know it is not private sector jobs but public sector, those requiring tax dollars to exist, they wish to create. The President and Democrat leaders do not give a whit about the private sector for they can not control them, their lives and count on their donations to their campaigns. This is about money and power and keeping it the hands of Democrats. Get your arms around that, and you will be a wiser voter next year.
This is my opinion, you may beg to differ.

Another nail In Liberty's Coffin

Dear Readers;

Seven-Sky v. Holder, is latest of the "Obamacare" federal lawsuits concluding it is constitutional which was decided on Monday 11/07/11. In a 2–1 ruling, the court upheld the health law’s mandate that forces all Americans to purchase health insurance. One part the court agreed with the vast majority of other judges that the individual mandate is a penalty, not a tax, and therefore that the parties do have standing to sue. (Had the individual mandate been declared a tax, under the Anti-Injunction Act, parties don't have standing to sue until the tax goes into effect in 2014.

The other part, the one that turns the meaning of limited government on its head, and pretty much rips the constitution to shreds the majority ruling citing the 1942 case of Wickard v. Filburn, in which the Supreme Court ruled that Roscoe Filburn could not grow wheat on his own farm for his own animals’ consumption, because doing so would frustrate the federal government’s scheme for wheat price controls, which President Roosevelt instituted during the Depression.

It uses this case to justify the government's premise that the health insurance market is a rather unique one, both because virtually everyone will enter or affect it, and because the uninsured inflict a disproportionate harm on the rest of the market as a result of their later consumption of health care services.

However the court missed the most selenite point. All ruling based over the years on Wickard v. Filburn were on the producers, not the consumers. The initial ruling may infer the farmer may or may not grown a certain amount of wheat, but it certainly does not in any way, shape or form mandate that the consumer must buy any product made from wheat.

This what the individual mandate does. It forces a consumer to purchase a product under penalty of fine or imprisonment. The government may regulate insurance companies, but it can not make you buy it. If this ruling is allowed to stand, our constitution as we now live under it will be a meaningless piece of paper.

It is why we can not rely on the courts to invalidate "Obamacare". We must vote in those to Congress and the Senate next year that will repeal this odious law. If you believe this is not an imperative, that your life and relationship between the federal government and you will be forever altered in the worst possible way, that we will be slaves to the government, then you are dangerously mistaken. This is my opinion, you may beg to differ.

Bazzo At Work Editorial: My Final Thought Before You Vote On Tuesday 11/08/11

Dear Readers:
My Final Thought Before You Vote On Tuesday 11/08/11:

Yorktown Races:

In my final column for 2010 In My opinion, I wrote that I wished to see David Paganelli in elective office by this time this year. He is running for a council seat in Yorktown. You can on Tuesday make this possibility a reality.

Fact is Yorktown is going in the wrong direction financially. When you see a unanimous vote to spend 4 million dollars on electric meters as one of their last acts before Tuesday’s vote, you know that at present this entire board is out of sync with the electorate. 4 million dollars we really do have, and for what, TOYS!!!!

When you see the present Supervisor’s proposed budget that makes the spending cap by gutting Highway Department funds and nobody on the board speaks up about it before the election, you know they are out of tough with the electorate. Fact is this present board from the Supervisor on down (except Councilman Bianco) has had it in for the Highway Superintendent from day one, residents be damned. We need road repairs, drainage repairs and sidewalk repairs, that is the function of the Highway Department, and to do these things, money must be allotted. These were sacrificed for electric meters that according to my research are not effective and have had to be removed from towns that utilized them. These were sacrificed for political purposes and maybe a touch of vendetta.

David Paganelli does not have a personal agenda as his reason for running. He is a local business man who over the years has used whatever advantages at his disposal to give back to the town that has given him so much. David Paganelli will not vote based on his relationships with various members of Yorktown government. He will vote as he says, on what he believes is best for Yorktown. I know him and believe him.

He maybe will not always be right, but you can be assured he will be pure of heart. I do not care who else you vote for in Yorktown, you can or can not vote for Westchester Legislator, Town Supervisor or a second pick for the council, though you should make a choice on the other races. However I must on this final day before the election, urge you to make sure you vote for Davis Paganelli if you want to change the direction this town is heading.

Peekskill Races:

Two things Peeksill voters must accomplish on Tuesday is 1) Make sure Darren Rigger is a councilman and 2) make sure a Republican is on the council.

As for Darren. He has the widest political resume of anyone running locally. It is this resume that Peekskill with it's more diverse population than it's ,neighboring communities that would be invaluable an asset on the council. His approach to politics is also an asset as he does not have the evil gene and will make the political discourse less divisive. No matter who else you vote for, I urge you to make one of those votes for Darren Rigger

One party rule is never a good thing. Even if it's the party I would support. The loyal opposition must be heard. People have to know there are opposing ideas. So if it's the mayor or a council seat or even both, Peekskill voters must make sure a member of the opposition party is represented on the council.

This is my opinion, you may beg to differ.

Just in time for Tuesday's Yorktown election

RUMOR HAS IT….
ACCORDING TO MY SOURCES

:Just in time for next weeks election:

In the first weeks of January 09, the new Yorktown board headed by newly elected Supervisor Siegel voted to de-consolidate Yorktown’s highly successful attempt at consolidation initiated by acting Supervisor Alice Roker and removed Highway Superintendent Eric DiBartolo as Director of Labor Relations (a title to accommodate his lack of an engineering degree, proving you don’t need a piece of paper to get the job done in a cost effective manor) and instead at greater cost installed David Rambo as Provisional Water Superintendent.

Now according to my sources, Supervisor Siegel wishes to install Mr. Rambo as head of the Department of Environmental Conservation along with being Provisional Water Superintendent with a bump in pay of around
$20,000.00 a year. To do this she is trying to buy out the present Department of Environmental Conservation head with a lifetime of town taxpayer paid medical benefits. As with all jobs that serve at the pleasure of elected officials, it is only a good idea if you can place your people there. Where this proposed idea at consolidations fails as compared to the last time it was tried, it leaves out Parks and Recreation and the Highway Department, Sewer and Building Maintenance. Plus Mr. Rambo will be provided with a new car.

It also seem that to get to the desired place of 2% tax cap in the Supervisors latest budget, she guts the highway paving funds and drainage repair funds. She also eliminates a position in the Water Department presently employed by an 18 year employee who had no idea they were retiring until notified by the Supervisor. Also gutted, all part time help in Highway Department, and all side walk repairs. Is there a vendetta?

Since Mr. Rambo has headed the Water department, over time has increaded over 46%.

Also in this time of belt tightening, the entire board voted to spend 4 million dollars on new electric meters. So much for fiscal austerity. It seem other municipalities have tried them and they do not work and uninstalled them.

LATEST POLL RESULTS:
ACCORDING TO MY SOURCES:

County Legislator:
District 4:

Kaplowitz 14 points over Murphy

District 1:

Testa 25 points over Kane

Yorktown Supervisor:

Peters 5 points over Grace, Siegel 8 points behind.

Yorktown Council:

Paganelli up by 5 points, Bianco 1 point over Campanero,, Martoano 12 points behind.

Flat Tax Is Fair Tax

Dear Readers:

Here is why President Obama and the Democrat Party's class war fare platform for the 2012 elections is so disingenuous. If you earn $50,000 a year or more, you are in the upper 10% of wage earners in America. You also pay 97% of all income taxes. The minimum income that qualifies to be in the top 1% is $343,000 a year. If you make $343,000 a year and up you pay 47% of all income taxes.

So you see the rich, those millionaires and billionaires are actually not just those in the top 1%. Also the top 1% actually do pay their fair share. If you include state and local levies the top 1% are taxed at about 59% if their income. The top 10% when all is included pay and average of 48% to various taxing entities. So you have hard working people, most small business owners, having over 50% of their income confiscated by various government entities to pay for life's losers and parasites who think they should be immune for this recession.

The Occupy Wall Street people are right about one thing. The present tax system is unfair, but not for the reasons they state. 49% of the wage earners pay no taxes on their income, including FICA as they get most of that back in earned income tax credits. They have no skin in the game. Is it any wonder why polls show almost 50% of the people want to tax even higher those wage earners who actually do pay taxes.

This is why any kind of flat tax is deemed unfair. It would force those living on the public teat to actually pay their fair share, which they do not now do! The Democrat Party and RINO Republicans live to govern another day on the votes of the 49% and those with success guilt's vote. The political ruling class needs them permanently dependent so as to have the power to run their lives.

The answer to how we get out of this deficit mess, this on going recession is to put more people in the tax base who have skin in the game. It is not increasing taxes on those already paying but adding to the ledger those who pay nothing. It is a tax code that encourages people and business not to hoard money, or hide it off shore, but to put it to work in America.

Yes, a flat tax would be fairer even though it would make some pay more in taxes than they do now, because now they pay nothing. There is nothing fair about that. This is my opinion, you may beg to differ.
