Bazzo Says:"Dole-ing" Out Bad Advice

Bazzo Says:
BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE:  "Dole-ing" Out Bad Advice

“I think they ought to put a sign on the national committee doors that says, “closed for repairs” until New Year’s Day next year, and spend that time going over ideas and positive agendas...Reagan couldn’t have made it. Certainly Nixon couldn’t have made it, ‘cause he had ideas.”

Those are the words of former Senate Majority Leader and 1996 Republican Presidential Candidate Bob Dole on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace on May 26.

Talk about being out of touch with today’s Republican voters. The type of Republican Party Dole wishes to return to is a so-called non-ideological and “responsible” Republican Party, whose political priority was to sit down with the other party to achieve consensus. Principals and policies are less important than bipartisan agreement. This is also the type of establishment Republican leadership we now have under House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

This is the type of Republican Party the media would love to see. Drop all principals and agree with the Democrats. That is called bipartisanship. This bipartisanship resulted in the Republican Party being the minority party for nearly 50 years.

It must be remembered that it was Dole who lost as the vice-presidential candidate when Gerald Ford lead the ticket in 1976. Then, 20 years later, he put up the second worst campaign in recent memory on the Republican side (McCain 2008 takes the cake there), losing to President Bill Clinton. Nationwide, the Dole type of Republicanism was rejected.

What kind of Republican have we elected? Well, we elected Nixon in a razor thin outcome over Humphrey in 1968, and then reelected him in 1972 over George McGovern. Let’s face it, McGovern was not a plausible candidate.

When Dole mentioned that Nixon had ideas, what exactly was he talking about? Was Dole talking about the disastrous price controls Nixon instituted? Or maybe the EPA Nixon established? Was it the affirmative action policy that Nixon took to a whole other level? Nixon’s “bright idea” to end the gold standard was possibly the worst economic policy move in modern history. You see, none of the above are conservative things to do, and that is probably why Dole longs for the days of the “Nixon Republicans.”

On a side note, you liberals got it wrong when you went after Nixon. He was a liberal in Republican clothing, and if he had finished out his second term, history may not have paved the way for Reagan in 1980, and the Soviets may still be in power!

However, what Nixon did have, and Dole and McCain certainly did not have, was the willingness to talk about big things and stand up to Democrats and the media. As we know, he went too far and he paid for it. The point is however, that Americans responded to Nixon’s willingness to be the bad guy, if it meant standing up for who he was and who he wanted to be as president.

When Ronald Reagan campaigned in 1980, he spoke of conservatism in a way that Americans could identify with and agree with. Reagan did not pander to the media or to the Democrats or to the Soviet Union. He did not apologize for who he was, and the American people responded to Reagan. The result was two landslide victories for the Gipper. The Reagan Revolution extended into the 1988 election, and George H.W. Bush rode that wave to an easy victory over Michael Dukakis. However, when Bush went back in basic Reagan (conservative) principals, (see: Read my lips), he lost to Bill Clinton, thanks in part to the candidacy of Ross Perot. Bush felt the pressure from the calls coming from the left to raise taxes, and it cost him. He did not stay and fight as Nixon and Reagan did. Bush compromised with the left, and he got taken to the cleaners as a result. We know what happened in 1996 when Dole ran a moderate, pathetic “campaign” for president. He did not stand firm to any sort of principles and predictably lost to Clinton. It should be noted that Clinton never got 50 percent of the popular vote.

So, in review, liberalism got destroyed in ’72, ‘80, and ’88. Jimmy Carter could only eek out a close victory over Gerald Ford in 1976 despite Watergate. Once America saw Carter’s liberalism in action, we completely rejected it.

George W. Bush ran as a conservative and in 2002, he became only the second president to see his party actually gain in both the House and the Senate during that year’s midterm elections. Bush won in 2004 because he stood firm in his beliefs and did not play the games the left wanted him to play about Iraq and taxes. However, as his second term went on he became soft and stopped responding to criticism. He gave Nancy Pelosi what she wanted in budget after budget. Governing as a moderate turned into a disaster for Bush and by the end of his second term he was rejected by the public.

Obama was able to hide his radical liberalism thanks to the media and John McCain in 2008, and in large part, he is still successfully hiding it today, thanks again to the media.
Polls show the American people do not approve of Obama’s policies, yet they approve of him (or had until the recent scandals). There is a disconnect here.

But regardless of the causes of meaning of that disconnect, it is obvious that when it comes to Republican presidents, the type of moderation Dole seeks is recipe for disaster

.
I had an epiphany on Monday, May 27 about why both establishment act as if the voters are stupid. It is because despite polls showing we do not like what they are doing, we keep voting for them. They laugh at us, and why shouldn’t they?

We have earned their contempt. Truth is, many Americans (especially liberals) love slick politicians and react in horror when an average citizen runs for office.

Conservatives however, demand principled leadership and when they do not see it, they do not show up to vote—see 2012 for Romney. The establishment damn well knows it too, that is why they pay lip service to conservative ideals but once they get back to Washington they govern as the ruling class. When conservatives punish them for this, they lash out at conservatives.

Bob Dole was never supported by conservatives because he was not one. All he is doing now is lashing out, as younger GOPers with ideas and principles take the stage, such as Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas. Americans do not like moderates.

Decade after decade, the Gallup poll has consistently shown that there are twice as many conservatives as liberals in this country. One would think that people like Dole would care about that. They don’t. In fact, they disdain it.

Once politicians get to Washington, the majority of them rule against the people—you and me. Look at this stalled immigration bill. You are seeing bipartisan fear of the voters. That is GREAT! FEAR us, do not RULE us!

However, fans of liberty, behind closed doors the “Gang of Eight” is trying to cut the same kinds of deals that were cut in order to pass the disaster that is known as ObamaCare—though ObamaCare did not garner one Republican vote.

This is the type of “bipartisanship” Dole and his ilk love.
Do you?

This is what I say. What say you?

Bazzo Says:Warning! Liberal Democrats At Work

Bazzo Says:

BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE:  Warning!!!!! Liberal Democrats At Work

"No company should be able to determine how much it's going pay in taxes!...No company should be able to determine how much of its profits will be kept offshore...No company should be able to determine how it is going bring 'em back home—the profits—using all kinds of gimmicks to avoid paying taxes that should be paid in this country!"

Those words, spoke on May 21, came from the mouth of Sen. Carl Levin, a Michigan Democrat, who is chairman of the Senate’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations

Senator Levin was addressing Apple CEO Tim Cook and Peter Oppenheimer, a tax specialist at Apple; at a Senate hearing on Apple using existing tax laws written by Levin and his pals in the Senate and Congress to mitigate their taxes. These Apple executives were summoned to appear even though it was admitted before the hearings that Apple broke no laws.

With ALL that is going on at the IRS, DOJ, EPA and with Benghazi, they find time to demonize people who have broken no laws (and they are not even Tea Party members!), and for what? Some sorta sick lefty show trial? Yup, gotta make our loony, anti-corporate base happy and lecture the boys over at Apple for being successful! Then, when our loony, anti-corporate base watches our little display on their iPhones over the weekend, they may throw a dollar or two our way.

Think about what Sen. Levin said about corporate taxation. As an admitted liberal Democrat, he could only utter that statement if he believes all earned monies belong to government first. By the way, Apple did not use "gimmicks." They used laws—voted for and passed by no other than Sen. Levin HIMSELF!

Some Apple facts:
•Apple paid $6 billion last year to the US Treasury.
•Apple pays 2.5 percent of ALL income tax collected by the US Treasury.

To the liberal tax hordes however, that is not enough. That it is not Apple’s fair share. Apple still has more money than they need.
So how much is enough? Who gets to decide what the “fair share” is?
Where in the Constitution (Shh…do not say that word too loudly. The IRS is watching.) do they have any authority to decide any of this?

Apple has about $110 billion out of its $145 or $150 billion cash reserve overseas. Apple leaves it there because to bring it home would cost the company 35 percent. Apple has a holding company expressly to collect sales outside of the United States, which are not taxable anyway.

Apple is one of America's greatest success stories and because of that it was made an ex
ample of. Apple is too successful, and Apple didn't use government to get there. To a liberal, this is heresy. Remember, if you are successful, you did not build that. Somebody else made that happen. All prosperity must come from government.

Global Warming blamed for Oklahoma tornado

Rhode Island Democrat Sen. Sheldon (I will never be in the) Whitehouse, on the Senate floor, started talking about global warming and blaming tornados on global warming within hours of the carnage in Oklahoma. So, we have more of Democrats politicizing dead people, just as they did in the minutes after the Newtown massacre. It seems when Democrats are not using dead people for votes on Election Day they are using them for emotional politicking shortly after a tragic event.

Here are a couple of facts that man-made global warmingistas ignore:

•Tornado activity in this country is down (as are gun murders since 1993, but I understand if liberals do not believe it. After all, that stat comes from Eric Holder’s “Justice” Department).
•Global temperatures have not risen since 1998. Many non-believers are aware of this, but the BBC finally reported on this on May 19.

From the BBC report, "Climate Slowdown Means Extreme Rates of Warming 'Not As Likely:"
"Since 1998, there has been an unexplained 'standstill' in the heating of the Earth's atmosphere."

It is interesting that alarmists have their models projecting warming over the next 100 years. We are creating laws and regulations based on these projections. We are killing our domestic energy capabilities based on them. Yet the warming isn't taking place. Obviously their baseline is flawed or they are lying. Why would they lie? (It’s the global socialism, stupid). However, they cannot admit that.

This is not a science to them. It is a religion.
As I write this column, I cannot imagine why anyone supports this party on a national level. Then I remembered: it’s the emotional argument, stupid. Come on Dems. Throw some broad, emotionally based reasons my way as to why liberalism is the way to go.
Yawn.

This is what I say. What say you?

Bazzo Says: Bianco vs. Grace, The Race For Yorktown Supervisor Begins

Bazzo Says:

BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE:  Bianco vs. Grace, The Race For Supervisor Begins

So now it's official. Yorktown Councilman Nick Bianco is running for Yorktown Supervisor. In response, the Yorktown Republican Committee sent out a press release that all but accused Bianco of mooning his constituents on a daily basis.

According to Yorktown Republican Committee Chairwoman Serafina Mastro, "For sixteen years Nick Bianco has needed and begged for the Republican Party line to hold his seat on the board, where his results have been mixed at best.

OK Serafina, then why in God's name did they give him the Republican line all these years, including 2011? Obviously hell hath no fury like a political party scorned.

Serafina continues:
“At the Town Board meeting of May 7, 2013, the Town was exposed to a distasteful display of third world political thuggery, orchestrated by Nick Bianco and co-chair of the Town's local Democratic party, Brendan Tully, targeting the Winery as part of a personal political vendetta."

This is pure poppy cock. Nick has been an opponent of the Winery the whole time. Nothing had to be orchestrated, as Nick's vote was entirely consistent with his past votes, and Serafina knows it. I would venture a guess that Brendan Tully took full advantage of Nick's vote and made it political, but nothing more.

Now, you should know that Nick and I have been at logger heads over the Winery for years. Yet, and proving that Nick is a class act, he has never held that difference against our longtime friendship. Nick, like David Paganelli, Eric DiBartolo and Don Peters all know that one never agrees with their spouse 100 percent of the time, so why would one expect their friends to do so? As class acts, they allow their friends to have independent thoughts. Politics is temporary, friendship is not.

Serafina also said:
"Four terms with Nick Bianco on the board led to a moribund local economy with businesses leaving in droves."

WOW! Nick has that kind of power. Who knew? I thought it was the recession. I thought it was the anti-business climate coming out of Albany and Washington. How stupid was I? All the ills in Yorktown are Nick's fault.
I think not!

I find it funny all this hub-bub over this recent vote concerning the Winery. You have a supervisor who is acting like he was kicked in the gut. It was one vote that he lost. He did not make a more persuasive argument than the opposition. It is as simple as that. Nobody was denied their constitutional rights as the supervisor implies. There was a petition before the board, it was denied. No one has the right to have their petition granted. The property in question is owned by the Town. The Town, via the board, voted no. If the Winery owned the property, then the issue of constitutionality would come into question.

Now Supervisor Grace wants to wage political war with the help of the Yorktown Republican Party, which is dumb. It is plausible that Grace will have to work with both Nick and David on the board for another two years. Talk about a perfect recipe for gridlock or being on a continued losing side of votes.

I was asked by a political friend of mine if Yorktown’s Democrats would vote for a Conservative.  In this case, yes, and here’s why:
Conservatism reaches across party lines.

Nick has been on the board for 16 years. He has a record. This record defies being pigeonholed.  Nick, like Grace, will be judged on his record. That is how it should and will be when an incumbent is on the ballot.
Yorktown now has a competitive race for supervisor. That is how it should be. All eyes will be on the race for supervisor and the Republican primary for highway Superintendent. More likely than not, there will also be primaries on both races for the Conservative and Independent lines. In the world of politics, this will be anything but a boring summer.

This is what I say. What say you?
