Bazzo Says: Ball: "CUT THE CRAP, JUST REFORM IT"

Bazzo Says:

BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE: : Ball: "CUT THE CRAP, JUST REFORM IT"

I recently received an email from State Senator Greg Ball in regards to the plague of corruption in the New York State Legislature. In a recent column—"To clean up corruption, will ball lead?”—I stated that Ball is perfectly positioned to lead the charge to clean up Albany. Simply put, I stated that Greg made his bones taking on not only his own party, but the opposition party and beating them soundly. He was not part of the system, and got elected beating the system. I also stated that our state senator has been called a lot of things, but never a crook.

He may have now however, become a typical politician, but that does not make him dishonest. As I also stated, all great reformers in New York's history started out as just politicians. However, when given a chance to clean up the shenanigans going on in New York politics, they took the lead in cleaning it up. The rest is history. Greg is now at that crossroads in history. He is about the same age as the other great reformers in New York’s history when they took up the baton. He has the tenacity. Now he must decide if he wishes to take "the road less traveled."

Maybe he has made that choice. Here are some excerpts from his email, “Cut the crap, just reform it:

“All organized political parties must go. Give the power to the people. If you want to really take down the culture of corruption you can’t nibble at the edges.”

“This [reform] package will permanently change politics as we know it...This package presents far reaching reforms that will comprehensively flip politics in New York State on its head. For that reason, while I have dubbed it the ‘Cut the Crap’ package, maybe it should be more aptly be named the ‘Dead on Arrival’ package. Let’s admit up front that many elected officials and party leaders like the system the way it is now. That said, as a legislator I must use my position to at least try to make a real difference.”

Here are some of his proposals, as outlined in his email:

Non-Partisan Elections: Political Parties Must Go!

The proposal would eliminate political party affiliation on the official ballot, allowing candidates to run as individuals. Candidates, after collecting the required number of signatures from active voters to appear on the ballot, would run as individuals without a party affiliation. All voters and candidates would still be allowed to register to a party, but would not be required to do so.

Term Limits: Move Up, Move Out!

Senator Ball’s term limit proposal would limit the amount of terms a person could hold a specific office to a total of three terms. Senator Ball also has legislation term limiting legislative positions and chairmanships. When elected to the Assembly, Ball signed a pledge to his constituents that he would term-limit himself to three terms. Ball kept that pledge, and will adhere to the same in the Senate.

Eliminate Pensions For Crooks!

Ball’s bill goes even further than the most recent reforms and fully closes a loop hole in New York State social security law, which allows public employees who are convicted of crimes related to their offices, to still receive a state pension and retirement benefits. Senator Ball has proposed such legislation and has developed bipartisan support.

Full Financial Disclosure!

While the good government groups focus on the size of contributions, they are missing the real root of corruption. Ball’s proposal would require full public disclosure of campaign finances including reporting all outside income and personal assets. All donations would also be required to be reported within 24 hours of receipt.

MY TWO CENTS:

This is a great start. It is more meaningful than anything our governor has proposed. In fact, our governor said recently that he does not want to start a war against the legislature (by creating a Moorland Commission to root out public corruption) because he needs them to enact his agenda. His agenda is more important to him than an honest government. I said he was going to abdicate his role in cleaning up Albany and he has.

I am glad to see that Greg is not calling for public financing of elections, or raises for these enablers of corruption. I think he has read the papers and knows that public financing is just another pot of gold for those with larceny in their hearts. I think he has also seen the latest Sienna Poll that shows 86 percent of the people think corruption is the most important thing our government should be doing something about. Not gun control. Not abortion. Not any of the nanny state ideas on their agenda. We care about corruption! The poll also showed that 33 percent of the people think their representatives will be arrested.

"Let’s admit up front that many elected officials and party leaders like the system the way it is now. That said, as a legislator I must use my position to at least try to make a real difference.”

That last quote, from Greg Ball’s email, is important. This could just be a typical press release, or actually lead to something big. This is where you come in. In the past, when Ball took on the establishment, he knew you had his back. You wrote, you emailed, you called, but most importantly, you voted!

YOU, who think corruption is a stain on our government and want something done, must get involved. YOU must show Greg you support him. YOU must call. YOU must email. YOU must write letters to the editors. The media is in the pockets of the establishment. The media largely ignored the corruption, and instead, made a false issue about a recent tweet that Ball said about those poor, disenchanted young men who blew bodies apart in Boston.

The media types are focusing on something Greg can do nothing about, while ignoring something we can all do something about. The media believes you are so complacent, so apathetic, you will accept this culture of corruption and eat it. YOU must show Greg you have his back in this fight. Without YOU he can "only try." With YOU however, he can succeed!

This is what I say. What say YOU?

Bazzo Says: TWICK OR TWEET

Bazzo Says:
BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE: TWICK OR TWEET:

State Senator Greg Ball tweeted Friday 04/19/13 after suspect  Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was captured   "So scum bag # 2 in custody," Ball tweeted Friday after suspect  Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was captured. "Who wouldn't use torture on this punk to save more lives?”

You would have thought he mooned the President by the reaction he has gotten in the media.  From the Journal News editorial board to Piers Morgan, how dare our State Senator give an honest reaction!  For all the caterwauling about politicians not being honest, when one is, they are pilloried.  Remember this was right AFTER the capture.

All this high and mighty "we are better than this" mentality,  in reality, we are not.  Revenge is a perfectly human response.  The fact is, Greg is not in a position to carry out his idea.  The fact is, more people than you know feel the same way.

These high and mighty believe the civil rights of a person who waged war on America on its own soil is more important that the civil right of the people whom  he harmed.  The fact is, this ilk and his brother had no regard to the most basic civil right of those they killed and maimed,  THE RIGHT TO LIFE!

This ilk deserves no more consideration or mercy that he gave his victims. The fact is that this ilk and his act will be treated as a criminal act and not an act of war, he will be given the protections of the same constitution he so hated.  That's the irony.  In a just world, he would be given the same judicial treatment of Chetnia.

The reason why these high and mighty are so alarmed over Greg's tweet is that they believe that the NRA, The Tea Party, The Right To Lifer's, Talk Radio are more dangerous than fanatical Islamism.

Here is a CNN headline hours after the bombings, "here from CNN, the headline:  "Boston Marathon Bombs Have Hallmarks Of 'Lone Wolf' Devices, Experts Say." From the article,  "The devices used in the Boston Marathon attack Monday are typical of the 'lone wolf:' the solo terrorist who builds a bomb on his own by following a widely available formula.  In this case, the formula seems very similar to one that Al-Qaeda has recommended to its supporters around the world as both crudely effective and difficult to trace. But --" but, but, wait for it, "it is also a recipe that has been adopted by  "extreme right-wing individuals in the United States."
SOURCE: http://www.cnn.com/2013/04/16/us/boston-marathon-lone-wolf/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

Right-wing individuals utilize the same tactics, techniques as Al-Qaeda. is what they wanted us to believe.

24 Hours after the bombing was this from Salon.com "Let’s hope the Boston Marathon bomber is a white American"

These high and mighty wanted so much to blame this on anything else but what it was, an act of terrorism.  You see under this President, unlike the evil President Bush, terrorism was on the decline.  Even the AP last month sent out a memo that they would no longer use the words Islamic Terrorism.  It would be over 24 hours after the attack that the President would use the words "act of terror".

In fact even before the sequester and to prove we are in a new day in regards to domestic terrorism, Obama administration has SLASHED the budget for domestic bombing prevention by 45 per cent.

These are what the high and mighty should be wailing against.  But noooooo, it must direct it's anger over the tweets of an honest expression of emotion from a Republican.  As long as we continue to run a war, and yes, we are still at war, in a politically correct manor and let the President and media lie to us about who its is waging that war, we will continue to be in peril.  The other real culprit on that fateful day in Boston was compliancy.   This is what I say, what say you?

Bazzo Says: "Wohl" See Who's Has The Better Argument

Bazzo Says:

BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE:  "Wohl" See Who's Has The Better Argument

For those Yorktown News readers, in this paper’s sister publication, Mahopac News, commentator Steven J. Wohl writes a weekly column, as do I. He is a proud, unabashed liberal. From time to time, I have responded to his columns with one of my own. Normally, those columns only appear in the Mahopac News. For the last few weeks he has been busy writing about numerous topics, and as usual, I take exception to much of what he has put on paper. This week I decided to share his thoughts and my opinions of those thoughts, with you. Below are excerpts from various Wohl columns, followed by my response.

BUSH DERANGEMENT SYNDROME IS ALIVE AND WELL:

WOHL: Did you know that a court has actually convicted President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, Defense Secretary Rumsfeld and four others, for torture? That’s a fact. On May 14, 2012, the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal convicted our former president and his cohorts of war crimes. Previously, in November 2011, the same court convicted Bush and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair of crimes against humanity and genocide for authorizing and conducting our wholly baseless invasion of Iraq in the first place, searching for so-called “weapons of mass destruction” that Saddam had relinquished more than a decade earlier. The result of Bush’s actions was the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and more than 4, 000 of our brave soldiers. The politicians like to say that these soldiers “didn’t die in vain.” I’m glad I’m not one of the parents who have to buy that line.

BAZZO: “Wholly baseless invasion of Iraq.” The re-writing of history is a staple of the liberal.

1) Not only did our intelligence say he had the weapons, so did the intelligence agencies of Israel, France, Germany, Russia, and Jordan, England, etc. Our Congressional and Senate intelligence oversight committees all were given the same information the president was. They concurred. For the record, so did Bill Clinton, who also made it official US policy to achieve regime change in Iraq. To make this about Bush is childish, ignorant and dishonest.

2) There were two resolutions authorizing the use of force in Iraq. This was demanded by then Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, a Democrat. Both resolutions passed the Senate with over two-thirds majorities. Daschle’s resolutions listed six reasons for use of force. Weapons of mass destruction was number four.

3) Only after we failed to find an active WMD program did Democrats and the media decide to use that for political gain, and accuse their President Bush of being a liar. That is right. The Democrats enthusiastically voted to send our troops to war in 2003 and by 2004, began the “Bush lied people died” nonsense. If Bush lied about Iraq’s WMD, so did Bill Clinton, the United Nations, nearly every major intelligence outfit in the world, and Iraqi defectors. Once again, to make this about Bush is childish, ignorant and dishonest.

So, the line went that Bush lied and the poor Democratic Party was fooled into sending the troops they love so much to fight an unjust war, or a war for oil, or some other such sophomoric nonsense. How could they be fooled though? Bush, they said, was the dumbest man to ever occupy the Oval Office. Were they fooled by an idiot? If so, what does that make them? The fact is that the Democrats began calling for the removal of Saddam Hussein from power in the early 1990’s, after the Gulf War. Al Gore, during the 1992 presidential campaign, said that George H.W. Bush went soft for failing to remove Hussein from power. Gore cited Iraq’s ties to international terror. Gore was a vocal supporter of invading Iraq in 2003, when he was just two years removed from seeing the intelligence our government had on Iraq. He thought Iraq had WMD just like Bill Clinton and George W. Bush did. Like the rest of his crew however, he would later accuse Bush of lying about the weapons.

4) As unrest in the Middle East has been going on since the beginning of time (or so it seems), and since 9/11 we were no longer able to fully count on Saudi Arabia as an ally, anyone who can read a map saw the strategic importance of having military bases in Iraq, the heart of the Middle East beast. For our national security, not only was this war not baseless, but necessary. Saddam Hussein used WMD on his own people, on the Iranians, attacked Israel on a regular basis, attempted to assassinate an ex-US president, etc., etc., etc. If history proves our fighting forces died in vain, it will be President Obama and his inept foreign policy in regards to Iraq that snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Keep in mind, Libya voluntarily gave up its WMD program because Gaddafi saw what Bush did to Hussein and did not want the same fate. We know what happened to Gaddafi, made possible by the fact he had no WMD.

5) As the book “Cobra II,” written by two New York Times reporter Michael Gordon and Gen. Bernard Trainor, and The Weekly Standard magazine chronicled, Hussein’s generals thought their nation possessed WMD until a December 2002 meeting when Hussein revealed his weapons program was not active. As Gordon and Trainor wrote, German agents in Baghdad tipped the American military to Hussein’s plan for defending Baghdad. Concentric rings were to be manned by Iraqi units. One of the circles was called the “red line.” This was to be the final barrier, manned by Hussein’s most reliable troops. US military intelligence reasoned that as American troops reached this line they would be met by poison gas or germ weapons.

6) The president of Yemen, Ali Abdullah Saleh, who had close ties with Hussein, told Vice President Cheney that Hussein would use chemical weapons if attacked.

7) As for the court convicting memebrs of the Bush administration of torture or whatever...Yawn. There was also some kangaroo court or Town Council in Vermont that did the same thing a few years back. Plus, why did they not also convict then Secretary of State Collin Powell? Probably because he was always a darling ofthe left. He was given a pass as being a useful idiot.

There is SO much more here, but I have only so much space.

HUBRIS, THY NAME IS LIBERAL:

WOHL: A few weeks ago, North Dakota Republicans enacted a law which essentially prohibits all abortions at about six weeks of pregnancy. They then passed a so-called “fetal personhood amendment” which will appear on the State ballot next year and, if approved, will ban all abortions, even those in cases of rape, incest or threat to the mother’s life.

As I write this, however, a unifying principle of modern conservatism is coming into focus. It is not that these conservatives really value individual freedom. If that were the case, conservatives would be in the forefront of the gay marriage movement and among the first to support a woman’s right to choose. They would vote to fund programs that enhance the ability of our vets to enjoy the individual freedoms these so-called conservatives supposedly espouse. Rather, this is the unifying principle of modern conservatism: subjugation. Subjugation of the beliefs of those who do not agree with them to whatever positions these “conservatives” are taking, whether or not those positions promote or deny individual freedom. How ironic that the conservative philosophy of individual freedom has been perverted into the philosophy of subjugation of individual freedom. Hypocrisy, thy name is modern conservatism!

BAZZO: It should be noted that Wohl’s words above appeared the week after the new and various scandals that plague Albany came out.  Instead of focusing his outrage on our Sate politicians and leaders, he goes on about laws in North Dakota. Corruption in Albany affects all of us, while a proposed law in North Dakota affects none of us. The corruption in Albany is now, we need all the voices we can muster to force our governor and legislators to enact meaningful legislation, not sound bites! Where are you on this, Mr, Wohl?

As for what conservatives should be embracing, why in God’s name would anyone take advice from a liberal? Basically Mr. Wohl is saying, drop your beliefs and convictions and adopt ours.

When Wohl writes, “Subjugation of the beliefs of those who do not agree,” he is using a tool out of the left’s playbook. Conservatives welcome the debate in the arena of ideas.  The liberal shouts down dissent. The liberal smears the character of the dissenter. Mr. Wohl himself has done this, when he said that conservative talk-radio hosts disagree with Obama because Obama is half black. In short, liberals demagogue dissenters. They use the term “pro-choice,” yet if your choice is life, you are a Neanderthal.

Wohl wrote: “How ironic that the conservative philosophy of individual freedom has been perverted into the philosophy of subjugation of individual freedom.” Nothing could be further from the truth.  Individual freedom starts with the preamble of the Constitution where the first unalienable right granted by our Creator, is the right to life.  Life first, then liberty and pursuit of happiness.

It is the liberal who champions death. From abortion without restrictions, euthanasia (see Oregon law) to the right to kill a living baby that survives a late term abortion, which is the definition of infanticide, a law which Barack Obama SUPPORTED as a state senator in Illinois.  Remember he was famous for voting “present” on most legislation, but this law merited him to actually vote “yeah,” twice!

LEAVE MY ENTITLEMENTS ALONE:

WOHL: I admit it. When it comes to reforming the entitlements programs, Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security (we’ll leave Obamacare for another day), this liberal is conflicted. While I am totally opposed to cuts in Medicaid, the joint State-Federal program that addresses the health care needs of our least well-off fellow citizens, I can’t say the same for the other two.

I have paid into Social Security and Medicare all of my working life and, since I’m not retired and don’t plan on retiring for at least a few more years, I continue to pay in.  But now that I’m over 66 years old and receiving benefits from both programs, I ask myself: Should the government be allowed to come along now and change the rules of “the game,” whether by tying the amount of Social Security benefits I receive into the amount of retirement income I still earn, or by increasing the taxes I pay into the system because I am still working?  I think not.

BAZZO: Wohl wrote: “Should the government be allowed to come along now and change the rules of “the game,” whether by tying the amount of Social Security benefits I receive into the amount of retirement income I still earn, or by increasing the taxes I pay…”

1) In my lifetime, this has been done to retirees since President Carter. Carter and his Democrat- controlled congress raided the age of eligibility. But it did not affect those already receiving benefits or close to receiving them. Like Republican proposals now, no one receiving benefits or over the age of 55 at the time of any reform, would be affected.

2) It was under President Clinton and the Democrat-controlled congress that taxed Social Security income. That included those already receiving benefits. I wonder if Mr. Wohl was just as disquieted then when he was only a contributor, not a receiver? The greatest lie about Social Security in my lifetime is that Republicans want grandma to eat cat food. It has been Democrats, time and time again who have negatively affected those seniors already receiving benefits. President Obama, a Democrat, is for changing the definition of the rate of inflation and tying it to benefits for present recipients. Republicans do not support that.

3) Wohl wrote: “We’ll leave Obamacare for another day.” You know why Wohl wishes to leave Obamacare for another day? It is because Obamacare takes $716 trillion out of Medicare and gives it to Medicaid. He must leave it out for now, for it differs with the template that Republicans want grandma to die.

The liberal will tell you that this is not true, that the Medicare savings come from uncovering waste and fraud. Not true! According to the recent CBO (Congressional Budget Office) report on this subject, there is only $125 billion in waste and fraud. The rest of the savings come from an appointed panel—another government created bureaucracy—vested with the power to decide if your projected lifespan is worth the cost of any treatment doctors suggest.

You were told that greedy private insurance companies were denying people coverage they deemed too expensive or too experimental, and that they were overruling a doctor’s opinion by putting profit first. Well according to congressional reports, Medicare denies more coverage then all private insurance coverage combined. Obamacare doubles down on that.

By the way, anybody hear what Democratic Senator Max Baucus, one of the writers of Obamacare, had to say about the law last week? He said, and I quote, “I just see a huge train wreck coming down.”

I will let you decide who has the better argument in the arena of ideas.

This is what I say. What say you?
