Bazzo Says:Losing Your Favorite Cable Public Access Shows

Bazzo Says:
BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE:  Losing Your Favorite Cable Public Access Shows

Madison Square Garden has taken over Local Programming as well as Cablevision's Public Access. On Wednesday Feb 13th 2013 a meeting of employees was called and after a conference call, employees consisting of program coordinators and technicians  were immediately terminated from their positions.

So why does this concern you?  First a little history.  We use to have a studio that local cable access shows were produced in Yorktown.  The Yorktown Studio in December of 2011 which had been in existence for over 35 years was closed as a result of poor judgement by the Yorktown Supervisor (Don Peters) and all but one of the Town Councilmen, on legal but in my opinion, dumb advice from the Town Attorney. It was decided the studio would not be included in the last contract.  That left The City Of Peekskill with the only remaining public access studio in Northern Westchester available for the public use.

Currently, the Peekskill studio is included in the franchise agreement through the remaining of 2013. Yet, in light of a skeleton crew remaining at this studio, I believe this studio is in danger of being shut down as well.
You should know by law, Cablevision is mandated to AIR shows done by the public, but are NOT required to provide a facility for the public users unless it is included in the contract.  Peekskill,s studio has a good many of public access users from Yorktown that will be adversely effected should this last remaining studio be closed.   I have been informed, should the studio be closed and programming equipment moved to (most likely Yonkers), anyone of the already airing public access shows or people interested in airing their own show, where and how at their own expense (there is no studio in Yonkers other than channel 12), will have to mail subsequent shows or drive to probably Yonkers for drop off.

Here is a partial list of some of your favorite shows airing in Yorktown that will be affected:
Cars & Us (Dennis Tate) which has been aired over 16 years
The Guitar Show (Mike Byrnes) also aired over 12 years
    The Seniors Forum (Nick DiTomaso)
    The Watchdog Report (Ed Ciffone)
    Scramble (Ifay Chang)
The George Ondeck Show
The Legislator's Report (Yorktown Councilmen Nick Bianco and David Paganelli)
Your Town (James Martorano)
Frank Talks with Bruce The Blog
       and your favorite
The Volpe/Bazzo Report

I also have been informed some elected officials of Peekskill are not that concerned over losing the studio.  Could it be because the studio does not generate any revenue to the city?, Also politicos have their own private studio along with a contract over $90k a year to have all their videotaping done including taping for their own shows aired on the government channel.

Dennis Tate, along with Mike Byrnes and Frank McVetty all members of Yorktown's Cable Advisory Board have offered their expertise and are willing to meet with Peekskills Mayor and elected City Council  members to review the current contract and advise them on what avenues to pursue to protect the public from the loss of the studio in Peekskill.  As of yet,  there has been no  response from any elected Peekskill official or the City Manager.   In case these officials see this  Dennis may be reached at 914 - 245 - 6290.

If you want to save your favorite shows, I urge you to get in touch with your Yorktown officials and have them contact their brethren in Peekskill. You may also want to contact the Mayor of Peekskill, Mary Foster at maryfoster7990@msn.com.  Your voice can make sure the studio is included in any new contract.  This is what I say, what say you?

Bazzo Says : Can You Get To Heaven Without Dying First?

Bazzo Says:

BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE:  Can You Get To Heaven Without Dying First?

I finally figured it out.  The majority of voters in the last election are convinced it is possible to go to heaven without dying first.  You had then as now an economy deep in a recession.  Almost 8% unemployment.  47 million people on some sort of government assistance, not including social security, medicare or pensions, which are partially paid for out of wages earned (up 26 million at the start of 2009).  Energy prices more than doubled since 2009.   8 million fewer jobs available since 2009.  Yet, Obama got re-elected with over 50% of the vote and the Democrats still held on to the Senate.

So how does this happen?  Even I took the easy way out and wrote that the majority of voters are uninformed.  I now know this was only partially true.  According to two recently released polls (Gallup and the New York Times),  The vast majority disapprove of the direction this country is going.  They disapprove of most of the policies now in place,  but approve of the Presidents and support for several of the policies the president has said he will push, until as the polls show they are spelled out.

SOURCES:

What these polls are saying to me is that the majority of voters like what he says, do not like what he is doing, but see no connection between the policies and the downward direction of the country.  Even though he has been in office for four years, had a super majority on the Legislature for the first two years and got everything he wanted enacted,  he is not held accountable.

He makes a speech that says government is not the answer to every problem, then for the next 60 minutes outlines an agenda the proceeds to grow government even more than now exists.  Name the litany of problems and he has got a government proposal to fix it. He says none will add to the deficit, but does not address how to fix the deficit we already have.

He gets away with this by saying "The debt, deficit is coming down.  We're already over halfway to the targeted debt reduction of $4 trillion."  Even though this is demonstratively not true.   As I have written before, no Congress can be held to any budget but the one they pass.  Anything else in what are called the "out years" are meaningless.  Even with the so-called sequester,  no government agency will get less money, including defense.  Remember, sequester is over ten years, so nine of them do not count.

He gets away with this by saying that because of his energy polices, Americans are enjoying lower energy costs.  He said that with a straight face.  Now who are you going to believe, Obama, or your own lying eyes.

I know that the Democrats with by-lines (aka major media) believes Obama because since that speech not one in the media called him out on this or what I said in the above paragraphs.

His words are taken a gospel, his actions and policies ignored, consequences blamed on Republicans.  Taken together,it explains the polls.  Then when a Republican makes the case for why his policies hurt those who he says he is helping, articulating a coherent conservative agenda,  he is ridiculed by these same Democrats with by-lines for taking a pause and taking a drink of water.  The horror!

So my initial assessment was wrong.  It is not that the majority are uniformed, it is that they are just stupid.  You can not go to heaven with out first dying.  The wrong direction this country is going that the majority of those polled disagree with, are the result of the policies in place.  Until people equate the two, the economy will only get worse.  This is what I say, what say you?

Bazzo Says: Who's Fault Is It Anyway?

Bazzo Says:
BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE: Who's Fault Is It Anyway?

The U.S. economy contracted in the last quarter of 2012.  That's right, during the holiday spending season the economy shrank.  The "blame everything else but us" crowd says it was because of Hurricane Sandy. Of course to believe this you must also believe  that there was never a hurricane during the last quarter of any business cycle before.  In fact the "Democrats with by-lines" ( the major media) wants you to believe that this downturn was the fault of Republican cuts in government spending.

What cuts?  There were and are no cuts.  No government agency got or is getting less money than they did in 2011 or 2012.   In fact we have not had an actual budget since 2009.  All we have had since then are continuing resolutions.  The Republican Congress has passed proposed budgets.  The President has proposed budgets.  It is the Democrat controlled Senate that has not done its constitutional duty and proposed, brought up the Republican proposals or passed a budget since 2009.

Unemployment went up to 7.9%.  You were told that the economy added 155,000 jobs.  What you were not told is that 165,000 left the work force.  In fact there are 8 million fewer jobs available at the end of the last quarter than existed in 2009. Truth is this was the worst fourth quarter report since 1981. That was before the Reagan economic polices took affect, we were still operating under the Carter policies.

So, what happened in the last quarter of 2012?  The debate over who's taxes were going to be raised.  Two things were certain.  One: somebody's taxes were going up.  Either starting at $250,000.00 or 450,000.00.  Either way it was going to hit those who produce jobs, or have disposable income to invest in businesses that create jobs.  Two) To anyone paying attention to the debates, the payroll tax deduction was going to go back up to pre-recession levels.  Now you may believe that your employers pays half and you pay the other half, but you would be wrong.   The employer pays it all,it is part of your income.  You see the deduction on your pay stub, but it is your employer who actually pays the money to the government.

Millions of Americans, felt the bite from the increase in payroll taxes that took effect at the beginning of January. There are now signs that the broader economy is suffering, too, chain-store sales have taken a hit.  The economic pain from the expiration of a two-percentage-point break in Social Security taxes in 2011 and 2012 is plain to see.  The people who noticed it the most were the ones making the least, and it was those people who were promised that their taxes wouldn't go up.

So no it was not Hurricane Sandy, or Republican budget cuts.  It was the policies of this administration, its actions and inactions that were the cause.  It was no budget.  It was the continuing talk about the "rich" paying their fare share. Those loop-holes they are talking about closing are your charitable deductions, your mortgage tax deductions and your ability to deduct what you pay the state in taxes.  Those who make this economy go are paying attention.  Are you?

It was the gutless Republican establishment that will not stand up to this President out of fear.  It was all this talk of looking for common ground, when there is none.  Let us not forget the rising gas prices taking more out of those who can least afford it.  Let us also not forget,  the "Obama Care" taxes  that started kicking in.  Businesses do not wait till the horse is out of the barn before they react.   No, they make their business plans in preparation of what is coming.

As long as government increases the costs of doing business, this economy will get worse.  Remember this, the money is not in closing loop-holes on the rich, nor taxing the rich as they said in the last budget deal.  The money is in closing loop-holes on the middle class, as it was in raising the payroll tax as was done in the last budget deal.  Follow the money, it will not lead to the rich, but to you.  This is what I say, what say you?

Bazzo Says:Liberal vs. Conservative:Fair And Balanced

Bazzo Says:
BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE: Liberal vs. Conservative:Fair And Balanced

An e-mail was recently sent to the publisher of this paper. He was kind enough to forward it to my for my comments.  I thought instead of replying to him, this would make an interesting column.  I will re-print entire letter without editing.  I will however break it up adding my comments.  The writer was not  anonymous and deserves an answer.

Subject: Bazzo the bozo

I am distressed to find that you are continually lowering the intellectual integrity of the Mahopac News (that is, if it ever had any) by continuing to publish the base, uneducated and reactionary views of Andy Bazzo. Honestly, does he pay you to publish his rot?  It’s the only sane conclusion I can come to as to why we, the readers, are continuing to be subjected to his political clap-trap.

Bazzo: As usual with critics of my work, it must start out with the usual insults and condescending attacks.  Also since I am not of the belief of the writer,  my education gets called into question.  Of course as I wrote, defending the limiting powers of the constitution make me a reactionary in the world of a liberal.

With regard to his views in your Jan. 17 issue, he states that so-called liberals “believe in the right to privacy in regards to [sic] killing life through abortion, which is legal, and they are in agreement with, but hypocritically do not believe in the same rights of privacy in regards to gun ownership which is also legal.”  It’s unfortunate, but I must remind Mr. Bazzo that the right to privacy with regard to abortion stems from the right-wing crazies who want to kill women seeking them and the doctors who provide them.

Bazzo:  The column in question "Bazzo Says: Baseball Writers & Journal News Both Wrong"
dealt with the Journal News publishing the names and addresses of legal gun owners.  The question being dealt with was the right to privacy, no where was my thoughts on abortion itself discussed.  Again as usual with my critics they presume to know what I think before I think it.  The right to privacy, which was created as an implied right in the 14 Amendment by the Supreme Court in Roe vs. Wade belongs now to everyone, not just those seeking abortion.

If the right of a woman to do with her body what she prefers were respected by these nuts, privacy would not be an issue here.  It’s legal to have a safe abortion, but one still has to seek one or provide one in secrecy to protect oneself from bodily harm.  If the right to abortion were taken away, many woman would still seek them; I guess it’s OK in Mr. Bazzo’s book if they die in the process due to lack of regulation.  Obviously, it’s the unborn fetus’ rights over the mother’s that are of paramount importance to him. It’s ludicrous, but what’s more ludicrous is Mr. Bazzo’s reasoning, comparing the right to privacy to get an abortion vs the right to bear arms.

Bazzo:  Presumptions on my opinion on abortion abound, and to the writer it is obvious.  Not even my mother knows what I think about abortion, so it amazes me that a person who I have never met "obviously" knows what I think on a topic that in six years of writing I have never addressed.
If the right to an abortion was taken away, with it would go the implied right to privacy which this ruling by the court rested.  If the right to an abortion was taken away, then laws regarding it would return to the states from which the Supreme Court took responsibility for them them away.
If the right to an abortion was taken away is a false premise.  Roe vs. Wade will not in my lifetime or even in the foreseeable future be overturned.
However since the created right to an abortion and an enumerated right to bear arms are both equally contentious,  comparing the right to privacy on both cases is apt.

I’m guessing from his name that Mr. Bazzo is of Italian-American descent, and is probably Catholic, and is probably espousing the teachings of this church.

Bazzo: Now the writer presumes that my thoughts and beliefs are not mine but somehow belong to my heritage or my religion again of which the writer know nothing.
I was born in Peekskill to parents born in New York City and Harrison.  Since all the above locations are part of the United States, that makes me and my heritage American, period! As for my religious beliefs, those are mine till I decide they are not.

I respectfully disagree with these views and believe they are inherently wrong.  I do not believe that life begins at conception, and fortunately or not, many people (perhaps the majority) agree with that view.
In addition, many law-abiding citizens of all political persuasions would prefer to know if his or her neighbor is packing a rod.

Bazzo:  They may like to know, but it is still none of their business.  Here is where I will presume.  I would wager that there are things your neighbors would like to know about you, but it is also none of there business.

And, OMG, don’t you people employ copy editors?  The organization of his writing and grammar are atrocious!  This can’t reflect well on your publication.

Bazzo: Your writing skills may surpass mine, but my writings will reach more people in any given week than yours will reach in a life time and there's there rub.

In your issue of Jan. 24, he states that one is ”uninformed” if one “believes that by punishing the successful, you will improve your life.”  It is an unequivocal fact, proven in many other countries, that if the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes, EVERYONE’S quality of life improves.

Bazzo:  The only "unequivocal fact" in regards to the re-distribution of wealth, is that the only was to make every one's quality of life better by this means is to lower the bar on what defines better quality of life.
From the time the Pilgrims first landed,
denying people the opportunity to profit and pursue happiness has never worked.  Not in this country anyway.
So the question I pose to the writer and anyone else who exposes the "fare share" rot, is how much money should one be allowed to keep?  Right now those living in New York making $275,00.00 or more pay in various forms of taxes, fees and surcharges 66 cents on every dollar.  If that is not there "fare share", what is?
The above question becomes relevant if one believes all income earned belong to the government first and they get to decide how much you may keep.  This would also mean that we and our rights are the creation of government and not"endowed by our creator" thereby rendering the Declaration Of Independence, our founding document upon which all others rest, meaningless.

The wealthy may grumble about it, but honestly, how many private jets or custom-made Birkin bags does one need?

Bazzo: Some one has to make those bags and jets.  In your world this would be limited and thereby increasing the unemployment number and hurting those who's livelihood depend on those businesses.

Or in Mayor Bloomberg’s case, is it more important to have a building named after you at your alma mater than to help those you profess to represent by doing the right thing with your insane wealth, like helping Hurricane Sandy victims?  Am I missing something here???

Bazzo: Yes.  Are you now the decider of what someone else should spend their money on. You get to decide what is worthy or not?  What you are missing is that this too is none of your business, or if it is, do we get to tell you what to do with your money?

Raising the minimum wage does spur job growth and helps low income workers by allowing them more purchasing power, therefore helping the economy.

Bazzo:  Not only is this not true, but the last time the minimum wage was raised, 29% of those between 16 & 29 wound up out of work.  Look it up. I did.  At that time we were not in a recession as we are now. It is ludicrous to believe that in a recession, increasing the cost of doing business can help the economy.  I would wager you have never signed the front of a paycheck.
What it also does is minimally cut into the profit margins of the wealthy, like those of the Koch Bros. or Roger Ailes.

Bazzo: No it hurts small businesses such as mine, or this publishers,or even the local deli you may patronize.  But then again you would blame the greedy small business person who would have the temerity to seek profit form their investment.  Oh, I forgot, it is you who decide how much profit a business may make.

The same reasoning applies again to his statements about how hydraulic fracturing is a good idea; again this gives right-wing big business supporters of this method of gas extraction more profit while helping to push the environment farther into the toilet.  I guess I must be missing something here, too, if we are to regard Mr. Bazzo’s ridiculous statements as fact.  Case in point: where did he hear the preposterous idea that hydraulic fracturing spurs the growth of STDs?  This is completely insane, nuts, and should prove once and for all that Mr. Bazzo is not playing w/a full deck.

Bazzo:See column published in this paper in October 2012
The only thing proven is you do not know what your own board of legislators is discussing.

It makes my blood boil when these idiots talk about gov’t handouts; they should have learned their lesson when Sen. Romney cooked his own goose w/his 47% statement.  It proves that these right-wingers aren’t dealing w/reality and don’t want to, because it will fail to further their political ends and the bigoted they cater to.  I worked as an ESL teacher for many years in Flushing, a virtual salad of immigrants.  I know FOR A FACT that the vast majority of them DO NOT want handouts of any kind, and would rather earn their way in this life.  There will be freeloaders in every group, but even less in theirs.  Mr. Bazzo is again abysmally ignorant of this state of affairs.

And lastly, I wish to state that yes, Mr. Bazzo, our Bill of Rights DOES need to be “means tested.”  The Founding Fathers, were men of their time, brilliant, to be sure, but even they put in a provision which basically states that if what they'd put in the Bill of Rights doesn’t work, it needs to be
revised.

Bazzo: Yes, our founding fathers were brilliant.  It is called the amendment process.  Fact is you can not by fiat or legislation alter an amendment.

I feel confident (as do the majority of people in this country) that if the Founding Fathers saw how the bozos of this country have sought to prostitute the ideas of allowing its men to bear arms into allowing men (and some women, unfortunately) to unnecessarily inflict pain upon and kill innocent animals, they DON’T need to kill for food or allowing people access to weapons of any kind, which they clearly don’t need for survival in modern society, they’d be appalled and jump to repeal the Second Amendment.  The Second Amendment was put into place to allow a fledgling frontier nation a means to protect itself and get food.  In addition, the Founding Fathers were still bristling from the time before and during the Revolution, when the English gov’t wouldn’t allow the American colonists to bear arms in order to prevent an armed insurrection against it.

Bazzo:  You do not get to decide this, I remind you again of the amendment process.

What a lame argument is the one put forth by the NRA and gun advocates that “guns don’t kill people; people do.”  And if they didn’t have a gun?  Well, I guess people wouldn’t get killed!  As the Amish grandfather in the film “Witness” told his grandson while showing him the detective’s gun, the only purpose of a gun is to kill.  We need to encourage people to evolve beyond the base idea that one needs a gun in 2012 America.

When I saw the postcard enclosed with an issue of your publication a number of weeks ago, asking if we still wanted to receive the Mahopac News, and instructing us that we needed to return the card if we still wanted to receive it, guess what I did?  I certainly don’t want to receive a newspaper that continues to print the uninformed and hateful views of a political psycho.

I encourage to ask yourselves as a purveyor of news to our community the following: are we a source of enlightenment, or a harkening back to the Dark Ages?

Bazzo: I guess if one has the audacity to think a thought and have a belief not of this writer's they are unenlightened.  The "Dark Ages" was a time when one had not the right to think an unsanctioned thought.
This is what I say, what say you?
