THE POWER TO THINK

Dear Readers:

Besides the three unalienable rights granted us by our creator as expressed in the Declaration of Independence, there is a fourth gift granted us. This gift is what allows us dominion over all other creatures on Earth. I am not talking about the movable thumb. I am talking about the gift that unlike all ,other creatures on Earth that fear fire, it is the gift that allowed us to harness the power of fire. The gift is the ability to reason, to think.

The horse is faster, the elephant stronger, the rabbit more prolific, the butterfly more beautiful. The ability to think is what separates us from all other creatures. So why are we so willing to suspend this gift and allow ourselves to be stampeded into a fear and panic that in reality is not real. Our Washington elected and appointed officials panicked us into TARP and Stimulus 1. As time has shown, what they said to us was a lie. However it was an effective one as it allowed the Federal Government to steal from us and transfer to them almost 2 trillion dollars of our money we worked hard for. The kicker was that almost all that money was borrowed. Your children will be paying for this, even thought that money was spent last year.

No matter what has or has not happened when you read this, our credit rating was not in jeopardy contingent on raising the debt ceiling. It was and is contingent on controlling our debt, which no plan offered as of this writing addresses. The constitutional fact is that one congress can not be bound by the actions of another congress. In other words, all promises of future cuts are worthless. The historical fact is that all promises of future cuts made by a sitting congress were never honored by even that sitting congress let alone future ones. Both parties are addicted to spending our money. Money equals power to them and no matter the party, neither will relinquish power.

No matter what has or has not happened when you read this our debt service will have been paid, as it is the constitutional duty of congress to do so. The debt service is 29 billion dollars a month. Our obligation to seniors, the disabled and military is 50 billion dollars a month. The government takes in on average 200 billion dollars a month. Those bills would and will be paid.

Since 1948 Democrats have frightened seniors into thinking their social security checks were in danger in the hands of Republicans. Those checks have always come. In fact till this present Democrat President, they have always had a cost of living increase. This administration changed the calculus to show there was no raise in the cost of living in spite of the rise in gas and food prices. Those prices are not included in the cost of living index. Who then has hurt the seniors more?

I do not feel sorry for those who suspend the power to think and reason and allow themselves to be panicked. This fear card has been played for over sixty years, so it is not new. Those who still fall for it deserve the sleepless nights they bring on themselves. There is a place in hell reserved for those who play this card for political purposes without a care to what is does to others. The antidote for this scare card is to use the gift God gave you and think. This is my opinion, you may beg to differ.
