PLAYING NEW YORK VOTERS FOR SUCKERS

Dear Readers:

Gay marriage has passed. Property tax cap has passed with an exemption for pension increases and no unfunded mandate relief. They also passed a law to allow school districts to bond day to day operations and those bonds are exempted from the cap. Rent controls have passed Just to think only a few short weeks ago $200,000.00 a year qualified you for the millionaire's tax, now it qualifies you for rent relief. All these at the last seconds of the recent state legislative session.

All the "high fives' and complimentary comments regarding the coming together for the good of the state have come to an end. Let's not forget the strong leadership shown by our new Governor for getting his agenda passed. This is the picture that the main stream media has painted for you. If the state elections were to be held right now, wouldn't you just want to vote for your representative again? Suckers!

What you are not being told is why all the important stuff had to wait. Here is what took priority. First the legislature had to decide what the official state vegetable was. They decided our state vegetable is to be sweet corn. This was an appropriate choice as this vegetable is a hybrid produced by grafting. It is fitting that the state legislature voted a vegetable that exists by graft. I hope I am not the only one that sees the irony.

The other more pressing item on the agenda was to ban smoking on train platforms. Another restrictive law against a legal product and the people who use it. Never mind there is still not one autopsy to prove second hand smoke kills. Nothing to prove second hand smoke in the open air affects anybody. This law was to appease a group of people who do not like the habit. Also to protect the children. Yet it is the extortion called cigarette taxes that fund child health care programs. As long as tobacco and it's use is legal, non-smokers have no more rights in public than smokers in public spaces. This still about control and relegating smokers as the new outcasts like we treated lepers in the past. Freedom protects the unpopular. BTW: I smoke.

In a related story, the federal government has decreed that cigarette packs show gross pictures of the affect of smoking. Mind you, only one third of smokers die of causes directly linked to smoking. The other two-thirds die of causes no different that you and I. However if we are now extrapolate this to its logical conclusion as we turn the world upside down for a minority of users of a legal product, let us go down that road all the way.

Drinking alcohol is legal. Let us now put pictures of cirossis affected livers on every bottle and can. Driving is legal. Let us put pictures of car wrecks on every door. Sugar is legal. Let us put pictures of the grossly obese on every pack of candy and doughnuts. If you can do the first, you can do the rest.

When you allow government to infringe on the liberties of one group of people, you allow the government to infringe on the liberties of all the people. Eventually it get to you, and you look around and say "what happened?". That is the point. Why real concerns were on the back burner looking for the necessary votes, our representatives had no trouble getting support to pass laws that should never have seen the light of day. This is my opinion, you may beg to differ.

THE STATE'S CON GAME CONTINUES

Dear Readers:
We are being conned. This con game has been going on for years. My blog "Bazzo at Work" perpetuates this con game. To keep you informed, I re-print the press releases, unedited, from various candidates, political parties and organizations etc. regardless of party. The con are the releases from our state representatives.

These releases announce actions, important to you or various communities in their districts. Some are mundane such as which group gets a state award, or a road re-named in someone's honor. These are basically photo-ops for the politicians that keep their name in the papers. Other are legislation, either proposed or voted on, usually sponsored by the representative in question. It is these that are the cons.

For the most part, most of these proposals never see the light of day. They neither have support from their colleagues or like minded legislation in the other legislative body. They allow your representative to campaign on this proposal like it is the real deal. Nothing could be further from the truth. There is nothing real, there is no there, there. Any legislator can propose. It is by design to make them look like they are doing something to earn their pay. In reality, it is a con to get your vote. You see, with out support from the leadership, it will not come to a vote.

The others are proposals sponsored by your representative, voted on by that particular legislative body, but has no counter part in the other legislative body. This is the con that allows your representative to cynically tell you that have actually accomplished something. For instance, the recently announced passage of a bill to repeal the MTA tax. This was only passed in the State Senate. The Assembly has no intent on passing a like minded bill. There is nothing there other than a great photo-op. Without a similar bill in the Assembly, it can not go to the Governor for his signature that would make it real.

The final few are proposals that actually have a chance to reach the Governor's desk. These are the scary ones. These are the one's that pick your pocket or take away more of your liberties. These proposals always seem to have everything needed to become law. However, most of these are never announced till after the fact for obvious reasons. These votes are fait-accompli. Meaning their passage is assured. Meaning your representative will be allowed to vote against it, to fool you into thinking they are on your side, but it will still pass.

Yes, it is important to read these releases. It is important to see how your representative's mind works. What they think is important to you. What they are busy doing while this sate keeps going down the toilet. It is also important to remember that these releases for the most part are as phoney as the person sending them. This is my opinion, you may beg to differ.

YORKTOWN IS NOT RUN BY CROOKS

Dear Readers:
It is finally here. The municipal audit on the Town of Yorktown conducted by the Office of the State Comptroller has arrived in draft form. This is important in that it is not the final report complete with responses by those mentioned in the report. That however will not stop those with axes to grind, to use this draft as an act of fact.

That this report has seen the light of day was not intended by the Yorktown Town Board, even though the public paid for it. I want to commend who ever let the cat out of the bag. The public has a right to know, even in draft form what is going on with their government. This was a good thing and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

This draft is complete with everything that sells papers, possible corruption and pornography. Let me say up front, I believe after all is said and done sloppy record and book keeping would be more likely than corruption. In efforts to get jobs done, not every "I" was dotted nor every "T" crossed and corners were cut. Possibly favoritism existed, but that does not equal corruption.

As for pornography, there are no allegations of kiddy porn nor sending of personal pictures ala Anthony Weiner. So all in all I really do not care nor do I think some one should lose their job over it. Also the draft does not say if that computer in question was in lock down or if any one could have access to it. Though in the end, the Highway Superintendent must be held accountable for its contents. Naughty, naughty, don't do it again.

What the report does not say is that there were no guidelines in place that covers some of the allegations. There now, however you can not back date a violation. Stupid things were done. People should have know better. More questions needed to be asked by those in charge before monies were paid out. If said monies were paid out, than who should the be held accountable? Still, I believe that if there were questions of legality, those in charge would have been more thorough. I think it was more, "this is the way things have been done" than enabling wrong doing. I say this as more of an explanation, not an excuse. Perspective is needed. Also I come from the point that I do not think this town is governed by crooks. Complacency is more like it.

I think that the Highway Superintendent's greatest strength is also his greatest weakness. He sees a problem and does his best to fix it. However he does not always do it by the book. That can be a good thing and a bad thing. It leaves one open to questions this draft raises. What is missing is that sometimes the book is wrong. Sometimes it is more important who can do the job best than who can get the job done cheapest? Sometimes they are the same, sometimes they are not. It is a fine line. What matters is intent. Was it for self-profit or best for the town?

Most of the points brought up in the draft have been vetted before. Many during the last time the Highway Superintendent ran for re-election. The people spoke and made their decision. It would be different if he could enact law or taxes. In two years people may have a change of heart. Finally after all this I must conclude, "who needs Sarah Paline, we have Eric DIBartolo?" This is my opinion, you may beg to differ.

HOLD ON TO YOUR WALLETS, HERE COMES THE EPA

Dear Readers:

Recently I warned you about the Obama Administration's EPA. I told you it was headed by people on the same page as he is on energy policy, or more accurately, energy killing policy. It is why I took his announcement on more drilling with a grain of salt. It seems I was not off base on this.

Back in January 2008 at a San Francisco Chronicle Editorial Board meeting during a discussion about energy and the environment, one of the members of the Chronicle Editorial Board asks then candidate and Senator Obama about alternatives, including coal. Here was his reply: "...we, uh, would put a cap-and-trade system in place that is more -- that is as aggressive if not more aggressive than anybody else's out there. So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can. It's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that, duh, greenhouse gas that's being emitted." This was not widely reported at the time by the main stream media at the time including The San Francisco Chronicle.

Fast forward to June 2011. It has been reported in a recent US News & World Report Washington Whispers, by Paul Bedard that "Two new EPA pollution regulations will hit the coal industry so hard that hundreds of thousands of jobs will be lost, and electric rates will skyrocket 11 percent to over 23 percent, according to a new study based on government data." The EPA admitting the job losses, admitting the rising electricity rates and knowing these regulations could cost the coal-fired power plant industry $180 billion, is standing by these new regulations because of the "health benefits."

Remembering that corporations can only spend money collected from the consumer, meaning you, under this plan, electricity rates will skyrocket. In the middle of a recession, the EPA is implementing it -- and the economic damage to you and the job loses, mostly union jobs, is of no concern because, they're concerned about your health. I keep telling you that this administration is at an economic war with you.

This nonsense started with the hoax of man-made global warming and conniving politicians using this hoax to control your movements interfere with your life, take away your liberties and most of all separate you from your money. The United States Supreme Court enabled this with their ruling that carbon dioxide, that which you exhale, that which is an integral part of photosynthesis is a green house gas to be regulated by the government, namely congress.

So was born congress outlawing the incandescent light bulb starting next year. Where they got that power is as unclear as where they got the power to force you to buy health insurance. Congress trying to force you into cars you have to wind up in the morning, you've seen those cars, they are found in the circus with ten clowns exiting them. Actually is the electric car nobody wants. It also birthed the second greatest assault on liberty and your wallet "Cap and Trade" (the first being Obama care).

The problem was that even a Democrat controlled Senate wanted nothing to do with "Cap and Trade". So the EPA usurping the powers of congress is implementing these new regulations. Congress has the constitutional powers to stop this. The question is do they have the will? This is my opinion, you may beg to differ.

The Sky Will Not Fall

Dear Readers:

To raise the debt ceiling or not to raise the debt ceiling, that is the question. Whether tis nobler to continue to spend money we don't have? There-by robbing your children and grandchildren of monies they have not even earned yet. Or tis is better to reign in this uncontrolled spending and borrowing and get a handle on our future for the benefit of your children and grandchildren?

We were told only a few short weeks ago that if we did not raise the debt ceiling, our country would default on its debt service and become a pariah in the financial community. Like TARP and Stimulus 1 before it, we were being scared silly by those smartest people in the room. The ruling class seeing that panicking the people worked twice already, went to the well a third time.

What happened? This time the people were not fooled. There was an election in November where the electorate sent to Washington a group to Congress with instructions "no more spending, mo more taxes, no more borrowing." This new group knew the electorate meant it this time. They were on a short leash.

So the deadline passed and the sky did not fall. In fact they moved up the drop-dead date to August 2. Pretty much the same thing that happened when the world did not end also a few weeks ago, those prophets of doom moved up that date also. What happened is the treasury moved money around and the bills were paid.

Here is the truth, there is no drop-dead date. They do not have to raise the debt ceiling. They do not have to raise taxes. The sky is not going to fall...yet. Not now, not this year. The debt service amounts to 6% of the federal budget. It amounts to 10% of federal revenues. This means for every $9.00 spent elsewhere, there is $1.00 in debt payment.

So as we saw on the last deadline, you move money around and you cover the debt service. What is behind all the scare tactics by the treasury acting as the mouth piece for the administration, Democrat Party leadership and a few institutionalized Republicans is that they won't be able to continue to spend the 120 billion dollars a month it does not have. They won't be able to continue to borrow on your children and grandchildren's future.

They are scared they will have to set priorities. They do not want to do that. They established a dependent class as a voting base, and are scare to tell them at this time they are no longer a priority while they are still in office. Let someone else tell them, sometime down the road, but not now.

This uncontrolled spending of money we don't have must stop. This uncontrolled borrowing of money must end. The time is now. It is up to you to hold you representative's feet to the fire. It is up to you to protect your children and grand children's future and your present. Whether the sky really falls is up to you. This is my opinion, you may beg to differ.
