Letter to the editor:

Yorktown Republican board members have become the" Time Bandits". By reducing the amount of times for courtesy of the floor, they have cut down the right of free speech at our town board meetings. At work sessions, the supervisor refuses to turn on the microphones so residents attending the meeting can hear what is being discussed.

In my opinion, Supervisor Michael Grace has become a dictator with his crony board members comprised of bullies, puppets and rubber stamps. I am a 45 year resident of Yorktown and President of the United Taxpayers of Yorktown. The UTY’s mission is to inform the public by speaking out on the issues of taxes at all level of government. The UTY members get no respect. Here are some examples at the town budget hearings where we bring up how to reduce the budgets by using a fund balance (surplus). This year the town had over $7,000,000 in surplus that is not assigned for any spending. Not a nickel was used to reduce taxes.

One our members and his wife discovered that Supervisor Grace hadn’t paid his property taxes since 2013 that were over $30,000 and his properties were under assessed. Our member was told by Supervisor Grace that he will never be allowed to speak at any town board meetings again. Do you pay your taxes on time? Do you believe in freedom of speech? Do you think that there should be two courtesies of the floor, first time at the start of the meeting and then another time at the end when all town business has been completed, I do?

Friends of Michael Grace, his intimate companions or cronies are everywhere; just connect the dots (people) around him. The Supervisor is using nepotism which is another word for favoritism by hiring his friends (new town attorney) or family members (wife) for town jobs. Is that ok with you? What message is the Supervisor sending to the public, arrogance? Do you like it, I don’t?

Lastly with the moving of the highway garage, he continues his quest to make the move with no funds (state grants turned down). The members of the UTY collected over 3500 signatures saying no to the move. Go to change.org, search Yorktown say no to moving the highway garage and sign our petition on line.

Why is affordable housing popping up all over town? Beware the county and the town politicians that are working behind the scenes together using our town to satisfy the H.U.D. and Westchester County agreement to desegregate our County. Why so many planned for our town?

The only way to fight and stop these unfair plans is to join the UTY. Call me at 245-1018 or email me at Yorktownwatchdog @AOL.COM.

The
American Public Called on to Help Fund Anti-Suicide Tool

Collaborative
partnership between
New
York Presbyterian
/Cornell
Medical College
, Burke
Medical Research Institute
,
and
Interlecta
Mobile Innovations

will empower caregivers when it matters most
New
York -- Feb. 10...
The American people this week are being asked to fund an emerging state-of-the-art mobile application system called "MindMe" that allows vulnerable individuals to
break the cycle of
suicidal thought and ideation through a self-guided approach that includes instant messaging and real-time voice and video conversations with therapists, who can be thousands of miles away at the time.

Suicide rates are at all-time highs in America, particularly in veteran communities.
The "MindMe" system is a collaborative partnership between New
York Presbyterian
/ Cornell Medical College, Burke Medical Research Institute,
and
Interlecta Mobile Innovations.
 The team launched a
$100,000 crowdfunding campaign
Tuesday to move the app into clinical trials.
"Each of us has been touched in some way by the pain of having to reconcile a human
being taking his or her own life," said MindMe co-developer Dr. David
Putrino, Assistant Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical
College, and the Director of Telemedicine and Virtual Rehabilitation at Burke
Medical Research Institute.
"So this week we are humbly asking Americans to support what we believe is the first anti-suicide application in the world that encourages and facilitates a
communications partnership between the therapists and the
users."

The MindMe App combines the traditional evaluation, analysis and treatment
strategies with standard therapeutic tools and applications and also integrates
patient videos, music  & literature libraries. In certain crisis or non
emergency situations a Audio Visual session can be enabled within the app for
more intimate one to one sessions.

The response to MindMe in the therapeutic community has been equally
positive:
"Mindme can make a world of difference because it is incredibly accessible" says Becca Letourneau, a longtime suicide prevention professional and advocate featured in
the MindMe crowdfunding
video. "It is a therapist's best friend; this is the way that we can get into the home Life, in a way that you can't when you have office hours... in a way that you can't when you are intervening in a crisis situation."

MindMe increases access to treatment across its client base and reduces the amount of
time patients spend accommodating busy therapist schedules or resorting to
crisis emergency room treatment.  It will reduce the number of involuntary
commitments to hospitals for psychiatric care, reduce readmissions to
psychiatric hospitals and most importantly reduce the incidence of suicide for
those with severe and persistent mental health disorder, Dr. Putrino said.

"This urgently needed application will save lives, and we thank the American public in
advance for chipping in whatever amount they can afford. Every life counts and
every penny helps,"

Dr. Putrino said.

Hey there –

Last night the House voted to provide federal funding for the National September 11 Memorial and Museum by designating it as a national memorial.  New York Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney missed the vote.  Was that because he was attending a Hillary Clinton rally in New Hampshire?

The 9/11 vote was called at 6:50PM.  Maloney tweeted a video at a Hillary Clinton rally in New Hampshire at 9:12PM.  Was that why Maloney missed the vote?  For what it is worth, a flight from DC to New Hampshire is an hour and 6 minutes – plenty of time for Maloney to do his job before cheering on Hillary at her concession speech.

NRCC Comment:  “Sean Patrick Maloney should be ashamed of himself if he missed a vote to provide federal funding for the 9/11 Memorial to instead attend a Hillary Clinton campaign rally 500 miles away in New Hampshire.  Maloney seems to have forgotten he is still a Congressman for the time being and not a volunteer on Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.” -NRCC Spokesman Chris Pack

Funding for Stormwater Study Receives Bipartisan Support

On Monday, the Westchester County board of Legislators (BOL) voted unanimously to release $325,000 from the East of Hudson Water Quality Investment Program Fund for the purpose of conducting a study to identify opportunities for stormwater retrofit projects.  The funds will be provided to the Town of Somers as part of an Inter Municipal Agreement with Westchester County.    Somers will coordinate the study on behalf of all 12 communities in the Watershed. The entire cost of the study will be $620,000.  The balance of the cost will be provided by Putnam and Dutchess Counties through their East of Hudson Watershed Funds.

The study is mandated by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation as described in a Memorandum of Agreement signed by the counties, municipalities and New York City in 1997.  The study will focus on practices like the creation of low-land swales, and the use of porous paving materials.

The East of Hudson Watershed Corporation is a local development corporation established by the municipalities in Northern Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess Counties in the New York City Watershed to install stormwater retrofit projects to meet the requirements for phosphorus reduction defined by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

Legislator Francis Corcoran (R) Bedford, Lewisboro, Mount Kisco, North Salem, Pound Ridge, Somers is the Chairman of the BOLs Environment and Health Committee.  Protecting our drinking water is one of the most basic responsibilities of regional governments.  The East of Hudson Watershed exists to ensure that we are using the best practices and latest technology to provide clean, healthy drinking water to the New York
Metro area, one of the most populous regions in the world. Legislator Corcoran said.  As Chair of the Environment and Health Committee and a long-time environmental advocate, I look forward to seeing the initiatives that are proposed as a result of this study.

BOL Chairman Mike Kaplowitz (D) New Castle, Somers, Yorktown applauded the cooperative efforts that have made the East of Hudson Watershed program a success.  When it comes to long-term environmental planning and conservation, it is necessary that government leaders from every branch, jurisdiction and political party coordinate their efforts.  Kaplowitz added, I would like to thank my colleagues on the Board of Legislators for their bipartisan support of this funding.

President of the East of Hudson Watershed Corporation Peter Parsons who also serves as the Supervisor for the Town of  Lewisboro  said, This is an example of the County and municipalities in the watershed working together so the cost of meeting New York Citys requirements is minimized.
