Kaplowitz, Maisano Elected to Lead Board of Legislators

On Monday the Westchester County board of Legislators (BOL) elected it’s leadership team for the 2016-2017 legislative term.  Legislator Michael Kaplowitz (D) Somers was re-elected Chairman and Legislator Jim Maisano (R) New Rochelle was re-elected Vice-Chair.  Sunday Vanderberg was elected Clerk of the Board.

Following the vote, Chairman Kaplowitz said, “I am honored to receive the support of my colleagues to Chair the Board of Legislators for the coming term.  Working together we have proved that bipartisanship works.  We have established a track record of tackling tough issues and facing challenges with pragmatism and professionalism.” Kaplowitz added, “In the coming days, I will be presenting a new committee structure that will best equip the Board of Legislators to handle the many important issues before us in the next two years.”

Vice Chairman Jim Maisano echoed Kaplowitz’ commitment to bipartisan cooperation saying, “The Westchester County Board of Legislators has distinguished itself as a thoughtful, professional, collaborative regional government where compromise is valued.  As Vice Chairman, I look forward to another productive term working with my colleagues on the BOL and with the County Executive.”

Sunday Vanderberg, the newly elected Clerk of the Board has worked at the BOL since 1999, serving as Deputy Clerk for the past six years.  Vanderberg said, “I am honored to have received the support of the Legislators and I look forward to continuing the high standards of professionalism in administering the business of the BOL that has been established by my predecessors.”

Chairman Kaplowitz is expected to announce Committee and Task Force assignments in the next week.

SUZI MCDONOUGH MAKES ASSEMBLY BID OFFICIAL, KICKS OFF NEW ‘COFFEE WITH SUZI’ TOWN HALL LISTENING TOUR
Mother. Leader. Neighbor.
Mahopac, NY (01/05/16) -- Carmel Town Board Member Suzi McDonough has made it official as a candidate for the New York State Assembly.
“The response over the past few months has been overwhelming, and I am officially declaring my candidacy for State Assembly! We are excited to run a positive campaign with a conservative message and bring the people’s voice to Albany.”
While making the announcement on social media today, Suzi will officially announce her candidacy for New York State Assembly with friends and family at a fundraiser to be held in the next few weeks. Details will be released in the next few days.
On news that the incumbent is possibly not seeking reelection, Suzi said, “Whether the incumbent is in or out, I am in this race to win it. Frankly, he seems to blow with the wind, and we are ready for any challenge. Should he choose not to run, I wish him all the best. The hard working voters of this district deserve a serious, conservative voice that is truly committed to public service for the right reasons. While I am pro life, pro second amendment and a solid fiscal conservative, I will serve as a loyal public servant to all of my constituents, and on both sides of the aisle.”
In June, Suzi unveiled her campaign website (www.suzi4ny.com) to personally set the framework for her exploratory campaign and what will be a positive, grassroots campaign. Suzi has stuck to that theme and will continue to do so.
Looking to meet as many voters as possible, Suzi also unveiled an ambitious plan, hosting “Coffees With Suzi” as part of an aggressive town-by-town listening tour. Suzi has personally met with over 1,000 voters in the past few months and has already begun door to door in the district.
“As a local leader I know that each town in this district has it’s own issues and concerns, and I’m excited to roll up my sleeves and dig into the details. Putnam and Westchester families deserve a respected conservative voice in Albany to watch out for our families, our communities and our state. And if elected, I will be honored to be that voice," Suzi continued.

Over the next several months, Suzi will also be hosting individual town hall meetings to listen to the specific concerns of voters throughout the district. The dates, times and locations will be finalized within a few weeks. This is the second round of such listening tours and will allow Suzi to hear from voters firsthand while building awareness of her campaign throughout Westchester and Putnam counties.
Suzi has lived in Mahopac, a hamlet of Carmel, for over 50 years. She graduated from Mahopac High School and a few years later married the love of her life, Jimmy McDonough. Together, Suzi and Jimmy owned and operated successful businesses in the Hudson Valley and have five amazing children.
The 94th Assembly District elections will occur in 2016.
