Holiday Connections - Christmas, Chanukah, & Kwanzaa Celebration

This is an open invitation to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender &
Questioning Community, 18 years of age and older to come celebrate the holidays
with community through the LPSS "Holiday Connections" Program.

The HOLIDAY CONNECTIONS program is an outgrowth of the "Coping with the
Holidays" workshop that LPSS conducted in November 2003. Although the program
wasn't always called "Holiday Connections," its purpose has remained the same:
to focus on the creation of an all-inclusive LGBTQ extended family. What we may
have known as "Traditional Family Events" has given us the opportunity to create
"LGBTQ Family Events."

HOLIDAY CONNECTIONS events are usually pot-luck get-togethers, hosted at the
home of a member of the community. A contributing dish and $5.00 donation are
requested (although donations in greater amounts are always welcomed!).
All events are open to everyone in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender
& Questioning Community, 18 years of age and older.

Whether you come for the day or just for dessert, you are welcomed to join in
the fun that the LGBTQ community can offer during what are traditionally
holidays spent with family. So come join your LGBTQ family and celebrate these

All HOLIDAY CONNECTIONS events are multi-denominational.
A dish (for the pot-luck feast) and $5 donation (more if you can) is

Town Board
December 22, 2015

Meeting highlights. For a summary of other agenda items, visit

1. Hilltop Gas Station, East Main Street, Shrub Oak
The board advised the new owner that he will have to seek a rezoning if he wants to sell used cars on the site. Site plan issues, including the installation of a canopy and landscaping and fencing, will be reviewed as part of the rezoning application.

2. Crompond Terraces (Mandalay), Old Crompond Road
The board voted  4-1 on a resolution accepting a SEQRA Negative Declaration for the project, followed by a 3-1-0 vote on a resolution to rezone the eight parcels. The board voted unanimously to schedule a public hearing on January 19 on a local law to amend the Zoning Map to reflect the rezoning in the resolution. The summary includes my reasons for voting against the rezoning.

3. Police cars
In an item not on the agenda, the board okayed the Police Department spending up to $71,500 to purchase used cars for the use of detectives.

4. Insurance policies (2016)
The board approved a resolution authorizing up to $765,000 for premiums for a variety of 2016 insurance policies.

5. Baptist Church Road
The cost of the actual construction of the new culvert and wall totaled  $693,000. Additional funds were spent on design, inspection and monitoring services.

6.  Deputy Town Clerk
The board approved Town Clerk-elect Quast’s choice for deputy town clerk, Maura Weissleder.

7. 2016 Organizational Meeting
The board set January 5, 2016 as the Organizational Meeting for the new year.

Planning Board
December 21, 2015

Meeting highlights. For a summary of all agenda items, visit

1. Creative Living (Navajo Fields)
Board members were given an “extensive” memo outlining staff concerns after a site visit that included Mr. Diven. The applicant will get back to the board after the memo has been reviewed.

2. Colangelo subdivision, Jacob Road
The applicant has dropped plans for an agricultural use for a portion of the property and raised questions about provisions in the Tree Ordinance that require an inventory of trees to be cut.

3. Envirogreen Associates, East Main Street, Mohegan Lake
Based on meetings the staff, the applicant showed the board a revised site plan that reconfigured one of the buildings and moved both buildings back from the road while maintaining a streetscape.

4. Marathon Development, Kear Street
The board was pleased with a new illustration that showed the mass of the building from a different perspective.
Still unresolved is the issue of how many parking spaces will be needed.

5. RPG Properties, Lexington Avenue
The board again raised the possibility that the rezoning for multi-family use be extended to the end of the street in order to avoid the issue of “spot zoning.”  The board also expressed concern that for a second time it was being asked to comment on a rezoning that was linked to a concept plan but not an actual site plan.
