Bazzo Says: Staples fights back

Bazzo Says:
How dare greedy corporations strive to succeed? Those dangerous job creators that pump out quality products should know their place and eat the costs of government-decreed idiocy, namely Obamacare, and its healthcare mandates.
According to the law, businesses with over 50 employees must provide healthcare to all fulltime employees–those working 30 hours a week or more. As money will always find a way, many of these businesses either laid employees off or reduced their employee’s hours to avoid compliance.
One company, Staples, had the audacity to admit it had reduced employee’s hours in order to avoid the mandate. Our king, Obama, will have none of this. In response to Staples’ revamped business plan, King Obama decided to publicly take Staples to task. Remember when presidents did not spend time taking businesses to task and marking them as the enemy? I miss those days.
Here is the backstory, according to Breitbart News and BuzzFeed:
Staples announced that it made some changes in the structure of employees’ hours because of Obamacare. The president, in a public display of childish petulance, lashed out not only against Staples in particular but against other CEOs and business leaders who have cut hours in response to costly Affordable Care Act.
In regards to Staples he said:
“I haven’t looked at Staples stock lately or what the compensation of the CEO is, but I suspect that they could well afford to treat their workers favorably and give them some basic financial security and if they can’t, then they should be willing to allow those workers to get the Affordable Care Act without cutting wages.”
Who the hell does this thug think he is?
Here is what Staples earns:
For every $100 in sales, Staples earns $2.70 in profit. The take from state and local government taxes on the $100 that Staples sells is $7. So Staples has to sell a hundred bucks worth of products for a $2.70 profit, and the taxes on that same $100 are $7. This information comes from Yahoo Finance and is part of Staples’ income statement. It becomes an even bigger bite when you figure in federal taxes and Obamacare taxes.
So, is Obama wildly uninformed about how business works or is he just anti-business?
Government, by force of law, requires businesses to provide health insurance for employees who work more than 30 hours a week. However, the academic lefties who wrote the law and the lefties who voted for the law (remember not one Republican voted for this albatross) and the president who signed it did not factor human behavior. Liberals never do. They just sat in their ivory towers and said, “The CEOs will just pay the increased price.” Yes, they actually believe this crap.
Since the CEOs have brains and actually live in the real world, they decided to avoid this entire scheme and convert some people from fulltime part-time.
This results in employees who are now working fewer hours and blaming their company for cutting back. Yet, the boss or company CEO is only acting in a responsible manner to ensure that the company’s profit margins hold. You must remember, a business is created to make a profit on ideas, time and investment. A great byproduct of a business is that it provides jobs for the rest of us. The real enemy is Obamacare and it’s the president of the United States and his party who giddily gave us this law which is costing us all a bunch of money, except of course for the IRS, lobbyists and insurance companies. They just love it.
Heck, we have Obamacare to thank for making us all aware of one Jonathan Gruber. For you lefties, Gruber is the MIT professor who you and me helped pay $400,000 to craft Obamacare and who later admitted that the law was written to purposely deceive the Congressional Budget Office and that American voters were too stupid to figure it out. Actually, based on who is partying it up in the White House these days, I’d have to agree with him about the stupidity of the voters, at least the voters in New York.
But, back to Staples...
In this age of crony capitalism, after the president of the United States does his best to intimidate a successful company, most CEOs would cower in fear and send the PR guy out to make an apologetic statement to the regime.
That is not what Staples did.
A Staples spokesman, Kirk Saville, said: “The initial story was misleading as our policy regarding hours for part-time employees is more than a decade old. It’s unfortunate that the president is attacking a company that provides more than 85,000 jobs and is a major taxpayer.”
So, Staples is a company of 85,000 employees that pays zillions in taxes, and Obama says:
“[Staples] ought to be able to allow those workers to get affordable health care without cutting wages.”
That quote just makes me shake my head because it doesn’t work that way, at least not in real life. Businesses will cut wages, they will cut hours. They will find a way to escape the albatross that you, using the brute force of law with a reckless disregard as to how they will pay for that albatross, have put on their backs. In America, businesses are not charities or non-profits.
Hooray for Staples for standing their ground against the man. God Bless America! That is the sort of spirit we used to have in this country! Tell that snake oil salesman to take a freaking hike.
This is what I say. What say you?
