STATEMENT ON SEAN MALONEY'S REPORTED ENDORSEMENT

Maloney campaign desperate to distract voters from Maloney's vote to cut billions from military families.
September 26, 2014
East Fishkill, NY -

"Greg Ball's attack on Nan Hayworth isn't about supporting veterans, it's about sour grapes," said NYS Assemblyman Kieran Lalor. "Ball was the Republican front-runner for Congress in 2010. He had spent years planning his run for Congress. But, when Nan Hayworth entered the race Ball cut and ran rather than face a tough primary. This is personal for Greg Ball. It's not about the people of the Hudson Valley, it's about Greg Ball taking one last parting shot at Nan Hayworth. I'm surprised Congressman Maloney would go in for Ball's games and personal feud."

"Only in New York is a State Senator who's under federal investigation endorsing a Congressman who's under federal investigation hailed as 'bipartisan cooperation.' This endorsement represents nothing more than a petty and jealous politician trying to exact revenge against a woman who scared him out of running for Congress four years ago. No endorsement can make up for the billions that Sean Maloney has cut from military families in his one term," said Kieran Lalor.
Lalor, a Marine Corps machine gunner who served in Iraq and is a member of the NYS Assembly, is supporting Hayworth's campaign.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nan Hayworth and Sean Patrick Maloney will face each other again in the November 2014 election. Hayworth has the Republican, Conservative, and Independence Party lines and Maloney has the Democratic and Working Families Party lines. Hayworth defeated Maloney in the Independence Party Primary on June 24th, and was named a Young Gun by the National Republican Congressional Committee, the top tier of the committee's three-level recruitment program, indicating that her campaign is one of the most competitive in the nation.
Dr. Nan Hayworth is a candidate for Congress in the 18th Congressional District in New York's Hudson Valley, which includes all of Orange and Putnam Counties and parts of Dutchess and Westchester Counties. An ophthalmologist for nearly 20 years, Dr. Hayworth was the only woman physician ever to serve as a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

ASTORINO: CUOMO MUST TAKE STAND ON
'MOCKERY OF STATE LEGAL SYSTEM'
Shenanigans in Long Island's 8th Senate District Cannot Continue
New York--Sept. 25...Westchester County Executive and reform Republican gubernatorial candidate Rob Astorino today called on Governor Andrew Cuomo to stop the Nassau County Democratic Party from running a disgraced state senate candidate in New York 8th State Senate District for a Supreme Court judgeship in order to get a replacement candidate for the state senate line.

The candidate in question, David Denenberg, stepped aside after being accused by his law firm of falsifying billable hours to the tune of $2 million. He was also accused of forging the signature of a federal judge. Under state law, a candidate for state senate cannot be replaced 60 delays prior to an election -- unless he or she is an attorney and is nominated for a judgeship. Mr. Denenberg, a lawyer, has already said he would not accept a judgeship if he were nominated and elected.
"Andrew Cuomo is the defacto head on the New York Democratic Party, and he has the leverage to stop these shenanigans dead in their tracks," Mr. Astorino said. "The Nassau County Democrats are making a mockery of the judicial system by nominating for State Supreme Court a man with serious charges over his head.  Mr. Cuomo claimed to be a reformer when he ran for office in 2010, but time after time he has shown to be just another Albany insider. Here's his chance to do something right."
Mr. Cuomo promised to clean up Albany corruption when he ran in 2010 and is now under federal investigation himself for possible obstruction of justice and witness tampering after steering away his own anti-corruption commission from his contributors and administration.

CORPORATE CRONYISM ALERT:
Cuomo's Albany for Sale
Needs to Explain Extell Deal
"Andrew Cuomo has a 'For Sale' sign on his office door. Its fine print reads: Donate to me, and taxpayer dollars are yours."

New York--Sept. 25...Governor Andrew Cuomo accepted $100,00o in campaign contributions just two days before showering Extell Financial Services with a $35 million state tax break, and Mr. Cuomo has yet to explain his actions, the campaign of reform Republican gubernatorial candidate Rob Astorino today said. The State Democratic Party -- which runs millions of dollars worth of television ads at Mr. Cuomo's behest -- accepted another $100,000 contribution from Extell's President just three weeks after Mr. Cuomo signed the $35 million tax giveaway into law.
Mr. Cuomo's pay-to-play deal was exposed by Daily News Albany Bureau Chief Ken Lovett Albany. Mr. Lovett's expose can be viewed here.

"Andrew Cuomo has an ethics problem," Mr. Astorino, the two-term Westchester County Executive charged. "The more you learn about him, the more you realize why it is you can't trust him.  Mr. Cuomo promised to be a reformer and then created the largest pay-to-play corporate cronyism machine ever seen in Albany, and that's saying something. He is exactly what is wrong with a corrupt Albany culture that has driven state taxes through the roof and sent job-providing businesses fleeing to other states."

On Wednesday, Mr. Astorino released a 100-page list of Cuomo contributors who received $7.2 billion in state contracts. Mr. Cuomo received more than $2.7 million in political donations from those same companies.

"Andrew Cuomo has a 'For Sale' sign on his office door," Mr. Astorino continued. "Its fine print reads: donate to me, and taxpayer dollars are yours."

Antonacci Defends Local Governments

By Jim Planck
The Catskill Daily Mail
September 25, 2014

LEEDS - Republican NYS Comptroller candidate Robert E. Antonacci was the guest speaker at Wednesday night's Town of Catskill Republican Club Dinner Meeting at the Inn at Leeds, and rhetorically asked those present, "What does a Comptroller do?"

"It's an important job that not a lot of people pay attention to," he cautioned, adding that the Comptroller's Office is responsible for audits of all state agencies, the executive department, and local governments, as well as being "the sole trustee of the $180 billion pension fund."

Antonacci, a CPA and attorney who has been Onondaga County Comptroller since 2007, said he does not believe local government is the fiscal problem in New York State, although it is often blamed, he said, but that the state government in Albany is the problem.

"I understand the effect of state mandates," Antonacci said, "and the fact that people are leaving New York State."

Saying that the state has lost two seats in the House of Representatives since the last census because of population loss, Antonacci noted, "We're losing political power every year."

He said the cause is the state's "high taxes," resulting in businesses not wanting to come here, he said.

Antonacci said that while audits of local government are part of the job, he also has a goal of working with them to "help them manage their funds and protect their assets."

"The Governor and the Attorney General make it out that local government is the problem," he said. "Local governments are not the problem."

He said Albany "misstates the facts" when saying there are 10,000 local governments in the state, in that they are counting sewer districts and lighting districts in there as well.

He said that in Onondaga County they formed a Consolidation, Sharing Services, and Integration and Information (CSI) Tax Force which provides fiscal assistance reports to municipalities who request it, and which have proven beneficial.

"We have to get mandate relief in New York State," he also said, adding that "anywhere from 60 to 80-percent" of the property tax payable to a county is because of state mandates, over which a county has no control.

"I believe in local government," he said, "the government closest to the people."

He said he is not in favor of either Common Core or the NYS Safe Act.

"Local people are more than capable of making smart choices on how to raise their kids," he said, adding that the "federal government dangles money," however, and then "stupid" decisions are made.

"Common Core is one of the dumb decisions," he said.

Antonacci said corruption is also a problem, saying that relationships between political contributions and state contract awards need to be addressed.

He said Pennsylvania "recovered hundreds of millions of dollars" auditing real estate partnerships, but that his opponent, incumbent Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, "refuses to."

Antonacci said that while he is both a CPA and an attorney, DiNapoli is neither, and said DiNapoli originally obtained the position as an appointee after former disgraced Comptroller Alan Hevesi resigned.

"He was handpicked by Shelly Silver," said Antonacci.

Does Gov. Cuomo Know a Subsidy When He Hands One Out?
East Fishkill, NY - (9/25/14) - Assemblyman Kieran Michael Lalor (R,C,I - East Fishkill) is asking Governor Cuomo how his office could possibly claim he is not subsidizing SolarCity when the state has agreed to spend $750 million to build a facility and buy equipment for the company. Yesterday, the governor's spokesman responded to Lalor's concerns about the deal and the ongoing federal investigation of SolarCity by trying to claim New York was not subsidizing the company.

"How is it not a subsidy to spend $750 million to build a plant and buy equipment for SolarCity?" asked Lalor. "This is the same game the governor's office always plays, trying to claim a subsidy isn't really a subsidy. Stop trying to claim you're not subsidizing your corporate cronies, Governor Cuomo. You're using tax dollars to help a private company. That's the definition of a subsidy. Don't kid yourself and don't try to pull one over on taxpayers. You can't redefine what a subsidy is."

Responding to Lalor's criticism of the giveaway yesterday, the governor's spokesman, Richard Azzopardi, claimed the state wasn't giving any money to SolarCity. Azzopardi told The Buffalo News, "
New York is investing in the largest solar facility in the Western Hemisphere and the company is providing 3,000 jobs in Buffalo and another 2,000 in other parts of upstate, without any subsidy to the company." Azzopardi previously tweeted enthusiastically about New York State's spending on Solar City.

Lalor continued, "The bigger question remains, how could Cuomo agree to give a $750 million subsidy to a company under federal investigation for bilking taxpayers? While Cuomo's spokesman was trying to redefine 'subsidy,' he dodged this question. SolarCity is under an ongoing federal investigation into whether it has exaggerated costs in order to collect more tax subsidies than it deserves. How can we give more tax dollars to SolarCity while it's under investigation? The company's business model seems to be a scam. Now, Governor Cuomo is giving SolarCity $750 million while the federal investigation of this scam is ongoing? That's a risky way to spend tax dollars."

Lalor's original press release criticizing the deal is available here.
Lalor's questions about Cuomo's corporate welfare for IBM earlier this year can be found here

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Antonacci: DiNapoli Betrayed the Public Trust
Taxpayers Continue to pay for Vito Lopez Cover-Up
SYRACUSE, NY - Bob Antonacci issued a statement today after the Albany Times-Union published a series of contracts and expenditures approved by Democratic State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli.

Near the bottom of the list was a line item for $121,000 paid out to Hogan Lovells US LLP, the law firm representing the New York State Assembly in sexual harassment claims.

"New Yorkers are still paying to clean up the mess created by Tom DiNapoli and his chief benefactor, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver," said Antonacci.

While the record shows that DiNapoli's office decided to reject over 1,000 different payments, the one to Hogan Lovells US LLP was not one of them.

"Instead of doing his job, Tom DiNapoli used taxpayer dollars to help Shelly Silver sweep the Vito Lopez sex scandals under the rug.

"It is time for us to drain the festering cesspool of corruption in Albany. When elected officials like Tom DiNapoli betray the public trust by not safeguarding the public treasury, it's time for them to go."

Bob Antonacci is the two-time elected Comptroller of Onondaga County, which has the highest credit rating in New York State.

STATEMENT FROM SALSA LEGEND WILLIE COLÓN IN
ENDORSING ROB ASTORINO FOR GOVERNOR
September 26, 2014

I am a Democrat... Mi gente, it happens every time. We vote and work to get our Democratic candidate elected and after they win. They forget their promises.  There is little or no access. Trying to meet with them is like having an audience with the Pope. Probably easier with his holiness.

Why? Because the Latino vote is a joke. Democrats know we don't even think about swinging to the other candidate. That's out of the question because it's evil; because you're a traitor if you vote for the Republican.

So, no matter how bad the Democrat is, even if he's going to jail; we still have to vote for them.

How smart is that?  Once elected they totally change on us and deal with us with contempt and rule with impunity because:  1.) you already voted for them.  2.) Next time around you'll do exactly the same thing again.

Elections are about US and what WE need not about the party. We want ALL elected officials and candidates from ALL parties to come to come to us, to covet our vote.

To make that happen, we have to vote smarter; we need to vote for the candidate that meets OUR needs. Latinos have to become a swing vote.

In this case, personally, I like the man; he's a decent man who'd make an excellent governor.  He's the Westchester county exec which is not chopped liver, 450 square miles and about a million population 17% are Latinos.

Rob Astorino doesn't come from a royal family or political dynasty. He doesn't think his family was born to rule.

He went to school at Fordham University in the Bronx. He has a BA in Communications and before he went into politics, became one of the founders of ESPN radio. He belongs to AFTRA -AMERICAN FEDERATION OF RADIO & TV ARTIST, like me. He's got religion; he's started the Catholic Channel on Sirius Radio.

I met him last year and he came across as a sane, humble, confident man.  He didn't just realize a couple of months ago that he needed to speak Spanish to get votes! (And come with a couple of phonetically memorized phrases; sounding like Frank Perdue) He studied the language from way back because he wanted to; because he admires and respects our culture.  Rob Astorino, right now, has one of the most diverse administrations in the state. That says a lot about how he would run our state government.

We don't need somebody with tons of money; deep pockets, that hides, throws a barrage of negative commercials and not even bothers to show up for a debate. We don't want somebody that starts a crime commission and obstructs it when it starts to head his way.

At this election, at this time, I'm voting for Rob Astorino for the next governor of the Great State of New York and I urge all Democrats and Latinos to join me.

Gropey Greg Ball - Cuomo Lapdog
East Fishkill, NY - (9/26/14) - Assemblyman Kieran Michael Lalor (R,C,I - East Fishkill) is criticizing Republican State Sen. Greg Ball for letting sour grapes come before good policy in Ball's endorsement of Democrat Congressman Maloney over Republican former Congresswoman Nan Hayworth. Ball was the Republican front-runner in the 2010 race for the congressional seat then held by Democrat John Hall before Hayworth entered the race and Ball dropped out rather than face a tough primary. Hayworth won the 2010 election before losing to Maloney in 2012. Hayworth and Maloney face a rematch this November.

"Greg Ball's attack on Nan Hayworth isn't about supporting veterans, it's about sour grapes," said Lalor.

Lalor, a Marine Corps machine gunner who served in Iraq, is supporting Hayworth's campaign. Ball is co-chairing a Veterans for Maloney group.

Lalor continued, "I was a big fan of Assemblyman Greg Ball, but when he moved to the Senate, Senator Greg Ball became a Cuomo lapdog. He's even refused to support Rob Astorino for Governor. Greg Ball and other Cuomo lapdogs, enabled Governor Cuomo to pass the SAFE Act and run roughshod over the legislature. Ball may have been free to vote against the SAFE Act, but the leadership he supports pushed Cuomo's anti-Second Amendment agenda through. He put his vote for same-sex marriage up for the highest bidder. Whether you're a Republican, a Democrat, or independent, you can't trust someone like Greg Ball. No one is falling for Greg Ball's games anymore."

"It's no surprise Gropey Greg would hold a grudge against a woman," Lalor concluded. "This is a man with a history of issues with women. My advice to Congressman Maloney is to keep Greg Ball away from any Women for Maloney events."

Rasmussen:
Cuomo 49% - Astorino 32%

New York Times/CBS:
Cuomo 46% - Astorino 24%
Two polls came out recently that brought great news for Team Astorino.  Last week, before Rob started his statewide ad campaign, a New York Times/CBS poll showed Cuomo at 46%.  Yesterday, a Rasmussen poll showed Cuomo at 49%.

Undecided voters usually break to the challenger, so with Cuomo below the crucial 50% threshold, he's in real danger.  The Rasmussen poll shows that Rob has cut Cuomo's lead in half over the last several weeks.
Some other takeaways:
  • Cuomo's lead drops to only 47-37 among those who say they are "certain to vote".
  • Rob is up 3 points with men (43/40).
  • Rob is up 2 points with independents (39/37).
  • Andrew Cuomo's negative attacks appear to be backfiring, as his unfavorable rating has risen to 41%.
  • Cuomo is upside down with independents: 46% view him favorably while 49% view him unfavorably.
  • Only 21% give the economy positive ratings, compared to 77% who give the economy negative ratings.
Make no mistake about it: we're closing the gap. Pass this around to your friends to spread the word, and be sure to check RobAstorino.com and NYGOP.org often for the latest from the campaign trail.

NEW YORK, NY -- Nick Di iorio received and accepted an invitation from The National Herald to debate his opponent, U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney.  The National Herald is the leading English language newspaper serving Greeks throughout North America.  The debate is not confined to any one particular topic.

"I am grateful to The National Herald for inviting me to this debate and I enthusiastically accept their invitation.  I look forward to debating today's pressing issues, including government corruption, job creation, and defense of Israel," said Di iorio.  "New Yorkers deserve a chance to hear from both candidates, and to choose the representative they believe is best."

The date and location of the debate is to be announced soon and should take place within the next two weeks.
Nick Di iorio, the Republican nominee, is the sole challenger running in New York's 12th Congressional District against longtime incumbent Carolyn Maloney.  Di iorio has also received support from members of the Independence Party, Libertarian Party, and Conservative Party.  The district includes the east side of Manhattan, Astoria, Long Island City, Greenpoint, & Williamsburg.  More at: www.nickfornewyork.com.

    CORPORATE CRONYISM ALERT,
HOLLYWOOD EDITION
Cuomo Takes $1 Million from Entertainment Industry; Gives More than $420 Million in Tax Breaks Back
"Governor Andrew Cuomo has built himself a cash machine in Albany"

New York--Sept. 26... "Governor Andrew Cuomo has built himself a cash machine in Albany where political contributions are suspiciously followed by massive corporate tax breaks paid for at taxpayer expense," reform Republican gubernatorial campaign Rob Astorino today charged.
Mr. Astorino, who released a 100-page list this week of political contributions from people and corporations ($2.7 million in contributions) receiving more than $7.2 billion in state contracts under Governor Cuomo, today questioned the governor on the massive tax breaks he has given to Hollywood contributors. Mr. Cuomo has taken $1 million in political contributions from the entertainment industry, and has given that same industry more than $420 million back in state tax breaks, according to Astorino.
Governor Cuomo and the state legislature were widely criticized last year for designing a bill specifically to benefit NBC's "Tonight Show." It is widely called "The Jimmy Fallon Tax," for what it costs taxpayers.
"Why are political contributors the only ones who seem to get tax breaks under this governor?," Mr. Astorino asked. "Everyday New Yorkers pay the highest property taxes in America and the highest overall taxes in America -- 40% more than the average American -- yet all they get is tax increases. Maybe their taxes wouldn't keep going up so much if Andrew Cuomo wasn't giving away the store to his campaign contributors."
Governor Cuomo received more than $600,000 at a single Hollywood fundraiser earlier this year. Under his administration, New York gives entertainment companies a 30% tax break on all production costs.
