Bazzo Says:ToThe Liberal, Compromise Is A Dirty Word

Bazzo Says:
BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS & MAHOPAC NEWS

To the liberal, compromise is a dirty word

Mr. Kosberg wrote a column last week, “Clean water and Maloney,” that was a liberal taking points memo. Even though it was supposed about bad water in Ohio, due to an "antiquated and poorly maintained municipal water treatment facility on Lake Erie that was not able to cope with a blue-green algae bloom that was poisoning the drinking water." He was then able to segue to Putnam County where he wrote:
“Blue-green algae, traces of which are now found in most of the lakes in Putnam County, produces a toxin—microcystin—that causes skin rashes, vomiting, and liver damage. The algae thrive in warm weather and in water overloaded with nutrients from fertilizer, pesticides, leaky septic systems and storm run-off.”
He was able to get in all the talking points, no matter how irrelevant and wrong.
He got in, climate change, “fracking” and even Sarah Palin. To start, he wrote about the Putnam lakes”
“Heavy rains, brought on by climate change, significantly aggravate the problem.”
Now, he does not mean the climate is changing, which, mind you, it has been doing since the beginning of time. Had he, he would have been correct, but no. He means that the changing climate is the fault of human activity. How “fracking” got in there is beyond me since there has never been fracking in Putnam County, the watershed or anywhere else in the State of New York. Even if fracking is one day permitted (fingers crossed), it would remain outlawed in those areas. Earth to the do-gooders, fracking poses no “threat” to Putnam County. And yes, that was literally Earth, chiming in!
About one of the left’s favorite obsessions, Sarah Palin, Kosberg wrote:
“I’m sure you’re confident that a liberal Democrat would never vote for Nan Hayworth (whom I and many others consider the Sarah Palin of the Hudson Valley).”

It would have behooved Mr. Kosberg to explain just how Hayworth reminds him and others of Palin. It still amazes me that conservative women are fair game for all types of criticism, but should a liberal woman receive criticism, the person doing the critiquing is a sexist and a five star general in the War on Women.

The main gist of Kosberg’s column though rests in his criticism of Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney, a Democrat, and his votes on certain issues in Congress that were proposed by the Republican majority.

Kosberg goes on to list the sins of our congressman:

• Maloney voted for (H.R.) 935, which would eliminate Clean Water Act protections for waterways that are being sprayed with pesticides.

• Maloney voted for H.R. 402, which slashes funding for renewable energy and energy efficiency, while boosting funding for dirty fossil fuel and nuclear generation technologies.

• Maloney voted for H.R. 418, which blocks Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) safeguards designed to protect public health and the environment from toxic coal ash.

• Maloney voted against H.R. 329, which would restore $329 million in funding for advanced and popular innovative energy projects. Maloney voted against H.R. 299, which would prohibit offshore drilling leases in Bristol Bay off the coast of Alaska.

• Maloney voted against H.R. 260, which would help to assist farmers who transition to production techniques that use fewer pesticides or antibiotics, and promote water conservation.

• Maloney voted for H.R. 203, which delays needed flood insurance reforms that would limit floodplain development and encourage the protection of wetlands, forests, and other habitats that effectively mitigate flood damage.

• Maloney voted for H.R.179, which would eliminate the Obama administration’s ability to complete adequate safety and environmental impact studies on the Keystone XL Pipeline Project.
As Kosberg illustrated, Mahoney’s sin was voting as a moderate, which accurately reflects the makeup of the district:

“There are many of us who are perplexed by your above referenced positions and, in addition, several of your key votes which served a conservative Republican agenda over these past 18 months.”

To the liberal Democrat, compromise is not working with Republicans for the public good. It is getting the Republican to drop his principals, usually to the detriment of the country. To the leftist, the agenda is all that is important, and if you go off the reservation, you will be taken to the woodshed.
Congressman Maloney learned his lesson from the loss of this seat by former Congressman Hall. Mr. Hall represented the interests of the maniacal Democrats in DC and it cost him re-election. Congressman Maloney knows the path to re-election is to represent the people of District 18, all of the people! By coming to this conclusion, he will be tough to defeat.

Truth be told, it must be remembered that most if not all of these measures were not taken up by the Democrat-controlled Senate. It would have been nice for Mr. Kosberg to mention this important fact in his column. A fact the Congressman Maloney surely would have known in advance as the Senate has not taken up anything of substance passed by the Congress. In other words, Congressman Maloney was free to vote this way knowing it really did not matter as these bills would never see the president’s desk, where they surely would have been vetoed. It would have been interesting to see what would have been proposed by the Republican House leadership and which way Congressman Maloney would then have voted had it been known that the Senate would have taken them up.

Congressman Maloney was right to vote the way he did on those issues, for they were either a waste of money or redundant.  And liberals, just because a bill is named the Clean Water Act, does not mean that everything in that bill is about clean water—duuuuh. If there is partisan rancor it comes from the left, which cannot stand their agenda coming in second. Mr. Kosberg’s column highlights this perfectly. Thank you for making my argument for me.
This is what I say. What say you?
