Bazzo Says: I was Just Saying Or Is It Thinking Out Loud

Bazzo Says:
BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS & MAHOPAC NEWS

.....So Mr. McKean writes again that he is not involved in local town party activities. Big whoop! He was hired by this paper to give a different perspective than the one I give. I, too am not involved in local party activities. In fact, unlike Mr. McKean, I am not even registered to a political party and never have been. Yet, one does not have to be active in party activities to champion certain causes, proposals or the election of certain candidate. The reality is Mr. McKean wants Democrats elected and Democrat/liberal ideas to rule the day. I want Conservatives elected and conservative ideas to rule the day. In local, county and state elections, it is hard, if one is a member of the media, not to have just political contact with candidates. As long a full disclosure of relationships is pointed out, the championing of certain candidates and causes is entirely permissible to a political commentator. After all, we are writing opinion, not a news story. It insults the intelligence of those one is trying to persuade to pretend otherwise. As commentators, we all have an agenda. It is up to you the reader to decide who makes the better argument in the arena of ideas.

.....Let us continue with some reaction to the interview Congressman Maloney gave to the editor Mahopac News last month, and then move on to some more uplifting thoughts!

Maloney says

Maloney was asked, “Fracking is a big issue in the race for governor. Is fracking on your radar?”

Maloney answered: It makes no sense to do fracking in the Hudson Valley. We have very fragile water resources in the Hudson Valley—obviously the river but also the reservoirs. In addition to that, we are too far east of the Marcellus shale formation to have the shale that even produces the kind of gas resources that would make it economically viable. Having said that, the transition to natural gas is enormously important to bring American jobs home, increase American manufacturing, get this economy growing again. We need cheap energy in the Hudson Valley and natural gas is very much part of that mix.

Bazzo says

First of all, NYS law prohibits fracking in the New York City watershed. So, “fracking in the Hudson Valley is out of the question.

Second of all, people who make a living studying the economic feasibility disagree with the Congressman’s assessment of what is and what is not economically viable. What is costing money, however, is the endless dithering by this governor on the issue of fracking. In fact, one company that had invested on the promise that this would be decided a year ago has filed bankruptcy and is suing the state.

Thirdly, when one puts the first part of Congressman Maloney’s answer with the last part, we have another politician who wishes to go to heaven without dying first. He says how transitioning to natural gas is “enormously important” but does nothing to move this forward. All he does is tow the party line with unfounded reasons of delay. The economic truth is the longer you delay something, the higher the costs are. This is not lost on our liberal lawmakers and their comrades in the “green” movement.

And now, for more happy thoughts...

• A while back, I wrote that the Koch Brothers gave $100 million to NY Presbyterian Hospital. The SEIU, the union representing the workers at the hospital, staged a protest demanding the hospital give back the money.

Why?

Well, because the union honchos disagreed with the politics of the Koch brothers. The thug SEIU leadership wrote the hospital board, saying, among other things, “We can’t accept that money! These are anti-Obamacare and they’re anti-healthcare, and they’re just giving this money to try to cover up who they really are, and we should not let them get away with this trickery!” The hospital representatives (probably after a good laugh) ignored their demand. Our own Senator Schumer took to the Sunday talk shows to call the Koch brothers un-American. I wrote then, that among other traits of liberals, you can now add, ingratitude.

Well, last week, as if to further prove my point, it was revealed that the Koch’s also donated $25 million to the United Negro College Fund, a donation The United Negro College Fund happily accepted. Of the $25 million, $18.5 is slated for the scholarship fund. Upon hearing this, the good “folks” at the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees union (AFSCME) sent a letter to Michael Lomax, the president of the United Negro College Fund, saying that the union would be “ending its partnership with the educational organization in September,” because the United Negro College Fund accepted the $25 million donation from the Koch brothers. It should be noted that the AFSCME gives the United Negro College Fund between $50,000, $60,000 a year. Yet, they’ve given the Democrat Party over $60 million between 1990 and 2012. You add it up and decide what the union’s priorities are.

• In response to the criticism President Obama is getting about not visiting the Texas border as it being overrun with aliens, Mr. Hope and Change said, “There’s nothing that has taken place down there that I am not intimately aware of and briefed on. This isn’t theater. This is a problem. I’m not interested in photo-ops. I’m interested in solving a problem.”

He then went off to fundraisers in Texas, which was more important than visiting the border.

This is what then Senator Obama said about President George Bush after he (on the suggestion of the Secret Service) fly over New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina:

“When the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast extended their hand for help, help was not there. When people looked up from the rooftops, for too long they saw an empty sky. When the winds blew and the floodwaters came, we learned that for all of our wealth and our power, something wasn’t right with America. We can talk about what happened for a few days in 2005, and we should. We can talk about levees that couldn’t hold, about a FEMA that’s seen as not just incompetent but paralyzed and powerless, about a president who only saw the people from the window of an airplane.”

Despite being wildly incorrect about people seeing empty skies (the Coast Guard’s rescue of residents in New Orleans ranks as the greatest rescue operation in world history), the blame for Katrina is first and foremost on nature. Then, on the corrupt city and state politicians in New Orleans and Louisiana. But the reality is, despite what the maniacs in the media and Obama would have us believe, computer simulations of a Katrina-strength hurricane had estimated a worst-case-scenario death toll of more than 60,000 people in Louisiana. The actual number was 1,077 in that state.

Oh, the difference nine years and a Democrat in the White House make...Anyway, the biggest difference between Katrina and the shame taking place in the Southwest is that Katrina was a hurricane. Hurricanes are natural disasters. The crisis at our borders is a product of the policies of this president.

Yet even though we know that the president did not visit the border, Reuters posted a picture of Obama standing on the edge of a wooded area, with a giant American flag in the background. The headline reads, “President Obama Visits the Border.” The picture was taken in Colorado, which by no stretch of the imagination is a border state. Talk about Democrats with by-lines. This is the perfect example.

What really galls me is that we still have a scandal and cover-up going on at the VA, where people who fought our wars are waiting for treatments for various ailments—with some dying—and that story is now buried while we are being told we must give immediate care to people who the Obama administration encouraged to break our laws and come here illegally.

Did you know we have been flying these people into this nation on planes without even checking their identifications? WOW!

I agree with Senator Coburn who said we should give these people a first class ticket home (which would only cost millions), and instead direct our resources to those who have served our country.

This is what I say. What say you?
