Bazzo Says:The Crime Of Thought

Bazzo Says:
BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS & MAHOPAC NEWS
TITLE: The Crime OI Thought

Think about this: The federal government eliminating your private property rights due political correctness.

A tiny minority of people are offended by something that you own, write or say in private conversation, or public for that matter. Then, an agency of the federal government, without any proper adjudication before a court or tribunal, on its own, decides to eliminate your private property rights. Or, a group of private business based on recording of a private rant that were allegedly illegally made, strips you of your property without due process. Or, you are invited to speak at a college, but your views are anathema to a minority of students, so you become uninvited. Better yet, you are a local columnist who refuses to preach the gospel of manmade global warming, so your editor is asked (demanded?) to not print any of those columns because people may believe them.
This is what is happening to the Washington Redskins, owned by a Republican billionaire. This is what happened to Donald Sterling, a liberal billionaire. This is what happened to numerous conservative- leaning individuals who were invited to speak at college graduation ceremonies. This is what a college student tried to do to me.

In all these cases, the offended believe their sensibilities trump the offenders. The freedom of speech, the first freedom in the Bill of Rights, is the protection of the unpopular, disagreeable, the offensive. What is happening now is the demonization, degradation and criminalization of the unpopular, disagreeable, the offensive. This should scare the hell out of you. What is really troubling is that in the citadels of higher indoctrination encourage their young skulls full of mush (college students) to silence those with whom they disagree. This is why liberals lose in the arena of ideas, for they are no longer taught to debate. They are taught to silence opposing ideas.

This is where I have to walk a fine line.

My critics, in an attempt to silence and discredit me, will say I am agreeing with the offensive  words or thoughts. I am not!.   I am advocating their right to be offensive. When angered, people will say stupid things. However, being stupid is not being criminal. The Supreme Court will hear a case involving someone sent to jail for posting a rant on Facebook against his ex-wife in which he says he will kill her. The question of intent is what the justices will hear. How many times have you or I used that expression out of anger with no intent of carrying it out? Is this now to be a jailable offense?
Of course, all the above are the offspring of what we call "hate crimes," which simply punish thought related to a corresponding action.  Like all liberal ideas, while the intent may be noble, in practice, it is harmful. As like with any liberal idea, it does not know when enough is enough.  I am not ready to strip anyone of their rights to use offensive thoughts or words without the accompanying intent to carry those thoughts or words out.
When did liberals become so freaking uptight?

Believe me, I know firsthand what it is like to be on the receiving end of harmful words. Yes, I would wish they would just go away, but they do not. However, I will not let them victimize me, I will not be a victim! In my life, I channeled that personal anger into improving my lot in life, rather than wallowing in self-pity. There is a whole political party (guess which one!) based on keeping people in perpetual victim-hood. It is how they keep their power. How sad. How pathetic.

Sure, life sucks every now and then and it can be unquestionably unfair. Yet, as human beings, with the ability to reason, we can rise above it. One chooses to be a victim. The United States does not owe you a living. All that is promised in this nation is the equal opportunity to make that living. It is up to you to seize that opportunity.

This is 2014. Not the 1800s, the 1950s or even the 70s. We have moved forward. Most of life's failures are caused by making wrong choices. But life goes on, and time gives one the opportunity to correct those choices, if one takes the time to learn from them and not blame someone else for those choices.
So, do not look to me to cheer the US Patent Office or the NBA, for I know life is not one dimensional. I realize that if you can strip someone of their rights for being “offensive,” you can be stripped of your rights should you be found to one day be “offensive.” Are you really ready to criminalize words and thoughts, as a standalone charge? I am not.
This is what I say. What say you?
