Bazzo Says: Who Is That Mysterious Commentator?

Bazzo Says:
BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS & MAHOPAC NEWS
TITLE: Who Is That Mysterious Commentator?

As a note of interest, in last week’s column by Mr. McKean, he refers to a mysterious local commentator. As a liberal Democrat, my colleague wishes to treat the readers of this editorial page in the low information voter category. Considering there are only three political commentators in this paper, two liberal, one conservative, which in the Democrat lexicon is balance, I believe you are smart enough to know it was I he was referring to. I will not do this to you. This column will tell you who I am referring to and to also correct the record of what I said.

McKean: “The issues are complex, and well worth debating. But according to some of our local commentators and elected officials, if you try to explore them to fully understand just exactly what we’ll find in the box once we take off the bright ribbons and glittering gift wrap, then you are guilty of “myopic self-interest.”

“Forget the facts, the context, and the history of the particular issue. It’s a purely black and white struggle; Us versus Them: “High-handed, doctrinaire Antagonists,” versus the good and true “Protagonists,” in the particularly florid rhetoric of one local scribe, who apparently has spent way too much time with his boxed set of Star Wars DVDs. Here come Darth Vader and the Imperial Storm Troopers, ready to stop any and all human progress toward a better world!”

Bazzo: The Democrat method of debate is to cloud the issues with so much crap until people think only smarter minds can understand these complicated issues. However, once the crap is removed most issues are shown to not be that all complicated. I state up front in my column that, “Now we have another battle raging with the former sales office at the Trump Park Residences. According to documents, it was as a temporary structure that would be taken down at some point. This is because it is deemed to be on “protected land...”

I neither ignored nor forgot this important fact.

As a point of fact I stated, “However, the residents of Trump Park do have a leg to stand on. It is within their rights to demand this building come down. “
The myopic self-interest I referred to and EXPLAINED was that to tear down this building because of an agreement signed when circumstances were different was just plain wrong. I am not saying what they are doing is illegal or not within their rights, I am saying they are wrong because there are alternative uses for this building for the betterment of the Town. It is myopic to tear down a perfectly good building. When circumstances change, it is perfectly fine to change a written agreement, as the conditions change. After all, this agreement is not the stone tablets.

This is not “bright ribbons and glittering gift wrap,” but instead the nut of the issue. It is a simple as a choice between “why we can’t” vs. “why not?” As Supervisor Grace said recently on my show, “The Volpe/Bazzo Report,” “It is easy to throw stones, to identify a problem but the hard part is coming up with solutions that benefit everyone.”

As for Mr. McKean’s interest in what I watch, my DVD box sets consist of old Western shows and Perry Mason.

McKean: “One of these commentators (there he goes again) says he’s not a big fan of the Westchester Land Trust because he doesn’t like non-Yorktowners coming in here and telling us what we can and can’t do. But apparently it’s OK for the developers of the Trump Park or Costco, who are in lower Westchester or Long Island. Or Costco itself, all the way out in Bellingham, Washington.”

Bazzo: It is OK for the developers of Trump Park and Costco because they actually OWN the land as opposed to the Westchester Land Trust who does not, yet wishes to tell us what to do with that land. I would argue that the property owner has more say than a bunch of un-elected self-important busy-bodies. I am tired of lefties confusing of the terms community vs. commune. We are a community and as such have the right of ownership of private property. We may live in the same community, but you do not have a share of my property.

As for the parts of his column pointing out Senator Ball’s more outlandish statements, which are accurately reported, we go back to Supervisor Grace’s comments on my show. As I pointed out in my column “I will miss Greg Ball,” his was not a career of just outlandish statements. There was substance and that substance was in doing more to root out corrupt politicians in his short eight years than any Democrat that Mr. McKean can point to in Albany. Not Cuomo, certainly not Assemblywoman Galef.

In fact, the record shows that for every Republican investigated, indicted or convicted, there are eight Democrats! Democrats own the corruption advantage 8-1. So before you throw stones at Senator Ball, show me one Democrat in Albany who did more on that front.
This is what I say. What say you?
