Bazzo Says: You Can Look It Up

Bazzo Says:

BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS & MAHOPAC NEWS
TITLE:  You Can Look It Up

So, I am talking with a prominent elected Democrat from the area on a couple of recent columns I wrote, one on second hand smoke another on his push to increase the age to purchase tobacco products to 19, and another man-made global warming.  I asked him if 18 year olds are smart enough to fight our wars and vote, why are they too dumb to decide whether to smoke or not?  His answer was that horse already left the barn as other municipalities have started to raise the age.  I know, I haven't figured out how that answered my question either.  I can hear my mother now saying " if your friends are going to jump off the Tapanzee Bridge are you going to also?  I would guess his answer was yes.  Just because other are doing it does not make it right or the right thing to do.

Then I asked him if he read the articles I cited on the report by the American Cancer Institute dealing with second hand smoke?  You see he was instrumental in passing the various no smoking legislation in Westchester.  You see these new studies put the lie to the argument behind these laws.  I thought that maybe these laws should be re-visited after these new facts came in.  His answer was that he did not read these new reports and he was not going to change his mind.  Besides he did not believe these new reports, even though he did not read them.  Funny thing when he was pushing these anti-smoking measures he was all to happy to site the then theories by the same American Cancer Institute.

Finally as Earth day was approaching, I told him of a report by the Independent Journal Review listing   23 independent news stories debunking the whole notion of man-made global warming.  Again he said no he did not read them, and again, he did not believe them any way.  I still have not figures out how you can not believe what you have not read.  I guess most science is settled if you quit doing research.

As I do not wish to tell other how to live, I am not afforded the luxury of having time stand still.  Also I am not looking for votes from the ignorant.  It must not be easy for a politician to run off cock-sure of him or her self, passing laws telling other how to live and then finding out that their whole basis for those laws are not true.  Or maybe the it was not the "science" after all, it was just being able to tell people what to do that was the point all along and everything else is just window dressing.

Here in lay the problem  Trying to wake up those pretending to be asleep.  To be willfully ignorant in order to advance an agenda that can not stand up to scrutiny.  You see if you accept an ideology that requires no thought, accept platitudes with out research,  you then do not have to acknowledge there might be another point of view that my have merit.  That you might have to THINK!

It has been said "Andy Bazzo must be a very lucky and happy man. To always be right, to always be so sure of himself, to never admit that there's another side to a situation"   I ask my critics to cite one column where I did not acknowledge there was not another point of view.  In fact the whole purpose of this column is to not only show that other point of view, but where it is incorrect.  Not just my opinion on where they may stray, I at the bottom of my columns cite the sources from which my opinions spring.  I do the research.  If I am sure of myself, and I am, it is because I did my homework.  By the way, I make my own luck and I am happy.

It was asked "Does he (Andy) really believe that having a black president has put an end to racism in our country?"  In spite of right there in the column cited I write "Does racism exist? Yes. History has shown that there are pockets of people who need someone to hate and blame for their own failings and life choices".  I went on to cite where I believe the real racism exists and who the real racists are.

If one continues to cite racism as the sole  reason for criticism, then one does not have to think about the critique. One does not have to even acknowledge that the critic may have a point.  It is not meant to advance the debate but to stifle the debate through intimidation.  It means one does not have to trouble themselves with the inconvenience of independent thought.

It has been said " He (Andy) states everything as fact, and challenges us to prove he's wrong."  Actually I challenge what the other side says is fact.  What the other side says is settled.  Using research which I cite, I then offer my opinion, and then I dare the reader to debunk not my opinion, but my research.

Simply put, I am the other side of the situation, I am the balance. And yes, I am always right, as I am not paid to be wrong.  Live with it.  This is what I say, what say you?
