MURPHY, PAGANELLI SCORE STATE AID FOR POTHOLE REPAIR
Yorktown, N.Y. - 4/21/2014 April showers do not just bring May flowers to Yorktown residents but it also marks the beginning of pothole season.  After a near record snow fall amount this past winter, coupled with frigid temperatures, Yorktown's roadways took the brunt of Old  Man Winter's fury.

"It comes down to ensuring the safety of our residents," said Yorktown Councilman Terrence Murphy.  "After the winter we just went through the potholes we continue to dodge were inevitable.  Thankfully we were able to partner with the state to secure nearly $44,000 in additional funds to repair our roadways without putting a dent in our budget."

The State of New York released an additional forty million dollars in an effort to combat the pothole obstacle courses which have formed throughout the Empire State.  According to the report released by the Governor's office, Westchester County received a total of $1,207,988.17 of which $43,995 was allocated to the town of Yorktown which was the greatest amount for any town in Westchester County.

"This proves partnerships within government exist," said Yorktown's Highway Superintendent Dave Paganelli.  "Councilman Murphy and I were able to work together, communicate our needs to the state and ultimately deliver for the folks of Yorktown.  This is government at its best."

The two elected officials worked in conjunction with New York State Senator Greg Ball who delivered over two million dollars to the counties within his district.  Comparatively, Westchester County received $1.2 million, Putnam County received a total of $213,597.57 and Dutchess County received $686,392.04.

"As the winter progressed, local governments struggled to stay on top of the weather while staying within their budgets.  I was happy to work with Councilman Murphy and Highway Superintendent Paganelli to deliver this much needed funding to help Yorktown repair our roads and fix the potholes that this winter has left behind," said Senator Greg Ball.

Residents are encouraged to contact the Yorktown Highway Department to report local potholes at (914) 962-5781 or email aanderson@yorktownny.org.

IN REMEMBRANCE OF DENIS CASTELLI
Statement by Assemblyman Steve Katz (R,C,I-Yorktown)

Today, Putnam County lost one of its finest sons, Denis Castelli. Denis was a great man, a veteran, an advocate for veterans and veterans' rights and someone who was everywhere and did everything he could to help Putnam County.

Anyone who knew Denis knew his work ethic and that he always had a smile on his face and a story to tell. I am proud to have known Dennis, and I am even prouder to have called him friend.
