The Top Ten Reasons Andrew Cuomo will be Joining David Letterman in Retirement
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: David Laska
dlaska@nygop.org

1. New York is the most taxed, most regulated, least business-friendly state in America, just like it was when Andrew Cuomo took office.

2. Sheldon Silver, who protected and enabled serial sexual abusers in his caucus, is still the Speaker of the Assembly.

3. The Cuomo administration said they needed "90 days" to complete their study on fracking 493 days ago.

4. Andrew Cuomo told conservative New Yorkers that they "have no place in the State of New York."

5. New York still spends more on Medicaid than Pennsylvania, Florida and Texas combined, wasting billions of dollars every year, according to the US Congress.

6. Thanks in part to legislation like the SAFE Act, New York is the least personally free state in America.

7. Andrew Cuomo's Mandate Relief Council has yet to produce substantive results. Without relief from state mandates, New York's property taxes remain the highest in the Nation.

8. Thanks in part to the one-shot budget gimmicks the Governor has been using to close the deficit every year, New York holds more public debt per capita than any other state.

9. New York leads the nation in outmigration. Over the last two decades, 890,000 taxpayers have left New York State, taking $86.5 billion of AGI with them.

10. Even the Working Families Party doesn't want him.

New York Abortion Clinics Go Uninspected for Years

"Whether you are an abortion supporter or an abortion opponent, we should all stand firmly on the side of safety."

New York--April 7...The Chiaroscuro Foundation has obtained records of clinic inspections performed by the New York State Department of Health since 2000 by Freedom of Information Request. As the New York Post reports today, the findings are less than encouraging: of the 225 abortion providers operating in New York, only 25 clinics were inspected over 13 years.

"Everyone on all sides of the abortion question was horrified by the revelations in the trial of Kermit Gosnell last year," said Greg Pfundstein, president of the Chiaroscuro Foundation. "As we learned about the house of horrors he ran in Philadelphia, and as it came out that the state of Pennsylvania had made a political decision to stop inspecting abortion clinics, we began to wonder whether any inspections were being done in New York. We are encouraged to know that some inspection is done in New York, but we can't say on the basis of what the State has done over the last 13 years that anyone should be confident there is not a Kermit Gosnell at work somewhere in New York."

The State refuses the reveal the names of the clinics which were inspected, the Chiaroscuro Foundation said.

"Women deserve to know whether a clinic they are about to visit has been inspected and is in compliance with health regulations," said Chiaroscuro spokeswoman Molly O'Connor, "A surgical abortion is an invasive procedure, and safety is of paramount importance."

There have been 1,145,261 abortions reported in New York City alone since 2000, during which time the Department of Health executed only 45 inspections.

The Chiaroscuro Foundation, which works to reduce the number of abortions in New York, a state often called the abortion the abortion capital of America, said that organizations on all sides of the abortion issue to join them in calling for an investigation.

"Women's health is women's health," Ms. O'Connor continued. "Whether you are an abortion supporter or an abortion opponent, we should all stand firmly on the side of safety. We urge NARAL and other abortion groups to join together with us in demanding answers from New York State."

New York Abortion Clinics Go Uninspected for Years - Investigation of State Health Department Urgently Needed
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ALBANY... The New York State Health Department has dropped the ball in inspecting New York's estimated 225 abortion clinics, putting the health of New York's women in jeopardy, and the Department needs to be immediately investigated for its inaction, the New York Republican State Committee today charged.

In a bombshell story published in today's New York Post, it was shown that only 45 Department of Health inspections of abortion facilities have taken place in New York in the past 14 years.  New York City tanning salons are inspected every two years.

"How could Andrew Cuomo let this happen?," said NYGOP Chair Ed Cox.

"This is a prima facie case of either incompetence or gross negligence, and the Governor owes us answers.

"The Health Department's complete lack of oversight over these medical facilities is an unconscionable failure that is putting the lives of New York's women at risk. It was a lack of inspections in other states that gave way to horror shows like the Gosnell case in Pennsylvania and deaths in states like Maryland."

Statement from Ed Cox on public campaign finance in the Comptroller's race
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: David Laska
dlaska@nygop.org
518.462.2601
ALBANY...NYGOP Chair Ed Cox released the following statement after Comptroller Tom DiNapoli stated that he will no opt-in to public campaign financing:

"After Comptroller DiNapoli did his job by pointing out that the Governor's sham projected budget surplus is actually a $3.4 billion deficit, and that the Governor used $700 million in one-shot budget gimmicks to balance the budget this year, Andrew Cuomo responded by subjecting Comptroller DiNapoli to public campaign finance.

"Public campaign finance advocates promise heaven but deliver hell: look no further than New York City, where a political Campaign Finance Board cleared the Democratic primary field for Bill de Blasio by arbitrarily denying matching funds to John Liu and Bill Thompson."

SENATOR BALL HOSTS MEETING WITH SUPERINTENDENTS FOCUSED ON HEROIN EPIDEMIC

Carmel, N.Y. – 04/05/2014 – Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson) hosted a roundtable meeting with school superintendents throughout the area to speak about the recent heroin and opioid epidemic on Friday afternoon at the Carmel Town Hall.

“The epidemic of heroin addiction plaguing our communities must be confronted head on. It is sickening to read and hear of the countless deaths in our community. We must get to the kids before it’s too late, talk is cheap, and what is needed is funding and resources. As legislators, we must do everything in our power to protect our children from drug addiction,” said Senator Greg Ball.
Attendees of the roundtable were shown a sneak peak of  “Chasing It”, a documentary that focuses on raising the awareness of the dangers of heroin use. The documentary was produced by Peers Influence Peers Partnership, a non-profit that provides an opportunity for youth to use their influence with their peers to make healthy life style choices.
“The scourge of heroin and other opiate addiction is visiting communities all across the country, in large cities and small towns like Putnam Valley where Doug Greenwich and his family live. Peers Influence Peers has worked this past year on the production of a documentary film, "Chasing It" which looks at this explosive issue,” said Frank Reale, President of Peers Influence Peers Partnership. “We will be sharing this film with local high school students and their parents in an effort to engage our communities in a realistic effort to deal with heroin and other opiate addiction.”
Senator Greg Ball was recently named a member of the Senate Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction to develop recommendations and to prevent and treat addition.
Senator Ball is also working with Senator Boyle, Chairman of the Senate Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Committee, to host a Heroin and Opioid Addiction roundtable on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 6:00 PM at the Paladin Center Tactical Training Facility located at 39 Seminary Hill Rd, Carmel, NY 10512.
“This a problem that is preserved as a big city problem, but it is a problem that is increasing its prominence here in Putnam County and Brewster specifically. We have a variety of drug awareness problems we have instituted,” said Timothy J. Conway, Superintendent of Brewster Central School District. “This kind of forum helps raise awareness and hopefully open up some avenues for more aggressive programs in response to this problem.”
“The more we invest this message in everything we teach, the better we are going to be,” said Thomas Manko, Superintendent of Mahopac Central School District. “We don’t have all the answers that we are looking for, so we are looking to partner with different agencies to get the message across.”
