Bazzo Says: Trying To Wake Up Those That Sleep

Bazzo Says:
BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE:  Trying To Wake Up Those That Sleep

Critical response
Within the next two months I will have written my 300 consecutive column. Over the years, I have tried to develop a familial relationship with you, the reader. Despite my best efforts, there are those who continue to try and marginalize me. For example, no matter how many times I have written that I do not watch television news—broadcast or cable—my critics still parrot the line that I watch FOX News.
Look closely at the page, take a deep breath, and read the following aloud:
Anthony J. Bazzo does not watch Fox News. He has nothing against those who do, but he has little interest in watching that channel, or any of the news channels. He prefers, for example, “Law and Order SVU” or “Roseanne.”
It is almost as if some of you have Bazzo Derangement Syndrome…
This publication goes so far as to list my sources when I opine on a particular subject. To those who pay attention, most of the sources cited are not from conservative outlets. I do this to show you that my research comes from a wide array of sources in both print media and the Internet.
My critics also try to extrapolate my positions onto topics I have not opined about. Since I call myself a conservative, they assume I must believe in this or that. Quite simply, they stereotype. Unless I write about a certain topic, nobody should assume what I believe in. I also confine my comments to a particular topic. In other words, when I talk about a particular vote or action by an elected official, it is not to be extrapolated to mean I am including past actions that may have actually been beneficial to their constituents.
My critics often try to twist my opinions and describe those opinions with words like ‘bias’ and ‘discrimination.’ I say, if you have to lie to make your point, then you do not have a point to make. The reality is that before I put my opinions down own paper, I spend quite some time researching.
After reading the latest criticisms and reflecting on what was said, I can only say that the critics are just plain wrong. One thing I have learned over these almost 300 columns is that you cannot wake someone up who pretends to be asleep.
Another shot at the First Amendment
In another attempt to thwart the Constitution—the Obama administration, through the Federal communications Commission (FCC)—wanted to put “monitors” in American news organization newsrooms. This includes broadcast, radio, cable and print media. The FCC has no jurisdiction over the latter two. The FCC licenses the public airwaves, so here they have a thin claim of jurisdiction. However, they do not license cable, as it is not public airwaves. The First Amendment covers print media. Actually, it covers all political speech, no matter its origins.
According to the FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai, the purpose of putting monitors into newsrooms is to ferret out information from television and radio broadcasters about, 'the process by which stories are selected' and how often stations cover "critical information needs." He also said the FCC is now expanding the bounds of its regulatory powers to include newspapers.
This is straight out of the Soviet Union. President Obama must be thrilled the Russians won the medal count…
It is the term "critical information needs" that you must pay attention to. The administration defines this as, "information that people need to 'live safe and healthy lives' and to 'have full access to educational, employment, and business opportunities."
In other words, the government is trying to decide what is and is not considered news. It wants to send in monitors to make sure it is their definition of news that is adhered to.
This was the free speech that the First Amendment was designed to protect. As there was no radio or TV back then, it was newspapers and pamphlets—the printed word—which was protected. There can be no federal regulation of newspapers. It is that simple. Remember, it is not a conspiracy theory if it is actually happening. In spite of administration denials, it is happening.
This is what I say. What say you?
