Bazzo Says: Republican Pathway To Electoral Suicide

Bazzo Says:
BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE:  Republican Pathway To Electoral Suicide

It was only last fall, leading up to the partial government shutdown, when the Republican Party leadership was all over the place publicly saying, "Focus on Obamacare. Get rid of Obamacare. We gotta get rid of Obamacare." Like idiots, the conservatives in the House and Senate believed leadership was serious about getting rid of Obamacare. In fact, Senators Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and others took to the Senate floor for 21 hours to make the nation focus on Obamacare. It resulted in a partial government shutdown. They were not only excoriated by the media and Democrats (I repeat myself) but by the Republican leadership as well. They screamed from the mountain tops, "You're killing us! We're getting blamed for shutting down the government and in our world of D.C., people love the government. People don't want the government shut down!”

Mind you, it was only 17 percent of the government that actually shut down. Mind you, more of the government shut down over the Christmas holiday! Mind you, it was the Democrat-controlled Senate and the president who would not negotiate with Congress that orchestrated this "shut down." In fact, the Friday before the shutdown ended, the Republicans came to the president with a deal and he did not give them the time of day. Mind you, everything the conservatives warned the country about Obamacare in their appeals for delay have now been proven accurate. Mind you, polls show the president’s approval ratings have tanked to the high 30s and low 40s since the Obamacare roll out. Mind you, polls show that over 54 percent no longer trust this president. However, just two weeks ago, House Speaker John Boehner, a Republican, went on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and once again blamed conservatives for the "shut down," saying it took the focus off of the train wreck known as Obamacare.

You cannot make this stuff up, and you cannot fix John Boehner.

So now, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, what is it Boehner and the Republican leadership are focusing on? Immigration reform.

Question: What does “immigration reform” mean anyway? We already have a process in place that allows people to come to this nation and become citizens. It is a good system—it worked for all of our ancestors. Part of that process includes laws preventing people from coming here illegally. However, those laws are seldom enforced nowadays. How about this, instead of this mindless “immigration reform” nonsense, how about we just enforce our existing laws?

So, Republicans are allowing the discussion to switch from Obamacare to immigration reform, even though the opposition to Obamacare reaches across every spectrum of the balkanized-hyphenated-American. From all income levels, from all walks of life, all religions, all creeds, all sexes, it doesn't matter. America does not like Obamacare. Now, the Republicans who last fall said, "Don't do anything to take the focus off Obamacare," have now taken the focus off of that and have shifted to immigration and the path to amnesty! This in spite of national polls showing that immigration is important to 3 percent of the population, while concerns over the impact of Obamacare top 70 percent in terms of importance.

Where keeping the focus on Obamacare is a pathway towards electoral victory for Republicans in November, new data shows that if the Republicans push immigration reform and pass anything other than border security, it will be electoral suicide for Republicans. Now I know countless times the Republican leadership and talking heads have told us that “Hispanics are conservatives-in-waiting. They're pro-life, a lot of them are very devout Catholics, and they're with us on the social issues!"

I can't tell you how many times I have heard this mantra, yet the closest a Republican got to splitting the Hispanic vote was in 2004 when President George W. Bush received 44 percent of their votes. When John McCain “ran” for president in 2008 he garnered just 28 percent of the Hispanic vote, even though Juan McLame has been a proponent of a "pathway to citizenship” (if there is no pathway now, then how am I an American?) and “immigration reform” (we do not need it—we just need to enforce the existing laws) for at least a decade.

So, why are Hispanics voting for the socialists? Easy. Unlike immigrants of the past where the newly-arrived assimilated, these new immigrants—legal and illegal—come from government-centric societies, and as such, hold a dim view of capitalism. (Perfect Democrats!)

I am not making this up. Phyllis Schlafly has produced a report on how immigration is changing the country. It was culled from surveys from the Pew Research Center, the Pew Hispanic Center, Gallup, NBC News, Harris polling, the Annenberg Policy Center, Latino Decisions, the Center for Immigration Studies and the Hudson Institute.

Some of these results, while surprising, are understandable when you put into context the birthplaces of these new immigrants. Here are some examples. This report surveyed naturalized and native-born citizens.

Naturalized citizens
• 67 percent think that international law should trump the Constitution
• 69 percent of immigrants like Obamacare
• 65 percent support affirmative action
• 81 percent of native-born citizens think the schools should teach students to be proud of being an American, compared to just 50 percent of naturalized U.S. citizens
• 75 percent of Hispanic immigrants and 55 percent of Asian immigrants support bigger government

The data shows that even though on social issues most of the new immigrants are of a conservative bent, they would still and have continued to vote Democrat. So, why would the Republican establishment push to "reform" immigration? Again, easy. They do not like their conservative base and know that by "reforming" immigration, the conservative voter will more likely than not stay home this November. The establishment is willing to wander in the wilderness for however long it takes until they come up with a new coalition that does not include conservatives.

Note to Republicans: The only time you win elections is when you put conservatism at the front and center of your coalition.

This is the message House Speaker Boehner was trying to convey in a recent speech, as reported by TheHill.com. The headline reads: "Boehner: House GOP is 'Alternative' to Obama, Not 'the Opposition.'"

Remember when Nancy “we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it” Pelosi and Harry “George Bush is a loser” Reid said similar things about Bush during his second term? Nah, me neither.

It is time to elect and support conservatives who understand why Democrats must be defeated, and not worked with. This again shows you that the Washington establishment is at war with you.
This is what I say. What say you?
