Bazzo Says: Facts Can Be Funny Things

Bazzo Says:
BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE:  Facts Can Be Funny Things

THE PRIMARY REASON TO VOTE FOR STEVE KATZ:

.....When the facts change, you are allowed to change your opinion.  This axiom acknowledges that life is fluid.  What you believe to be true today, may not after time be true tomorrow.  If one is a believer in seeking knowledge in order to benefit human kind, then one follows this axiom.  If one wishes to control people for the sake of power, them one continues to hold on to the first premise without acknowledging any progress or new information.  For all intents and purposes, this is the modern Democrat Party and their liberal base.  I would use their term progressive, however the root word in progressive is progress, which in no universe could the liberal be accused of acknowledging.

There are exceptions.  Assemblyman Steve Katz once voted against a law allowing medical marijuana.  Do to circumstances I wish not to go into, for it in itself is not important, after doing his own research, no longer relying on old information, he changed his mind.  Instead of being congratulated on his epiphany, according to published reports, he may face a primary challenge for the Republican line in September based on his change of vote.

Back in the late eighties, none other then William F. Buckley called for the legalization of marijuana, not just medical marijuana.  Back in November 2012, I wrote a column for this newspaper "It is Time For New York To Go To Pot:" (http://bazzman.blogspot.com/2012/11/bazzo-saysit-is-time-for-new-york-to-go.html).  I outlined not only my arguments for legalization, but also Buckley's.  I bring this up for Republicans and Conservatives who believe that being against legalization is un-party like, but instead to acknowledge that the facts have changed.  This is progress.  If one has a problem with Assemblyman Katz, this is NOT the issue to vote against him.

Personally, I believe that unlike other representatives of this area who call themselves Republican or Conservative, Steve has actually been one of the all too few who have held true to the tenets of these party principals. All to often in New York (and nationally) we elect Republicans and Conservatives of convenience whose idea of compromise is to jettison  their core beliefs and accept the Democrat position but just a little less.  This is NOT Steve Katz, and if he chooses to run for another term, I say he has earned it.

BAZZO NOTE:  Governor Cuomo plans to legalize medical marijuana as an executive action using a law passed in 1980.  It will, according to law, be administered by the State Health Department.  The Health Department will set rules limiting use to patients with life or sense threatening conditions and will require a doctor's prescription and a review by participating hospital's review panel.

NEVER LETTING FACTS GET IN THE WAY:

One of the last acts of the New York City Council was found in this headline" NYC Council Approves Ban On Indoor E-Cigarette Use".

This ban, the same being touted by Assemblywoman Sandra Galef for state wide law, treats E-Cigarette the same as tobacco products even though it contains no tobacco and releases water vapor.  The E-Cigarette was created to help wean people off of tobacco.   This weaning off of tobacco I always thought was the goal of the anti-smoking zealots.  I have written though, that control was the goal.  To ban something on the grounds that it does not look good, or may promote behavior not approved, or based on the premise that it has not been proven safe, instead of the government proving it unsafe is a slippery slope we are reaping the rewards of in other areas of life.  Also basing this kind of legislation on disproved science makes a mockery of public health legislation.  It also leads people to doubt any pronouncements made by health officials and actions taken by our representatives with just cause.

BTW:  If we are going to start banning things that do not look good or we might find offensive, let us start banning the ugly and stupid.  Who are they?  They know who they are.

We are told that second hand smoke can cause all sorts of ills, some fatal.  I have written many time the idiocy of this premise.  I based this on Passive Smoking Doesn't Cause Cancer. UK Telegraph 03.08.1998

(http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/fr/788186/posts) .  Common sense tells us if this were true, every one who tended bar would have emphysema or worse cancer.

Now also released last year when you were busy in holiday mode, from the UK  Telegraph " Passive smoking – another of the Nanny State's big lies"  (http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/jamesdelingpole/100251229/passive-smoking-another-of-the-nanny-states-big-lies/

This new report by the American Cancer Institute deals with a study by fierce anti-smoking campaigners James Enstrom and Geoffrey Kabat  wanted to prove once and for all what a socially damaging habit smoking was. This was the premise they started from.  So they surveyed 118,094 Californians between 1959 and 1989.   This study was supported by the American Cancer Society and the Tobacco Related Disease Research Program.  This study discovered that exposure to environmental tobacco, second hand smoke, no matter how intense or prolonged, creates no significantly increased risk of heart disease or lung cancer. This same conclusion was reached by the World Health Organization in 1998 after a seven-year study.

Ten years ago the British Medical Journal, published the results You never heard of them, well that's easy, they were buried because they did not fit the template.  Remember it is control that is the engine behind these restrictive laws and draconian taxes.

So we have allowed laws to be passed based solely on the premise that is offends.  Freedom is suppose to protect that.  So now the government tells you that even though you like your doctor of health plan, they deem it offensive and not enough, and so it is gone. Now you scream that the government can not do that, but they can for you have allowed the government to have that power.  Here is where it started.  This is your trade off, you can go to a restaurant where smoking is prohibited, but now so is your health plan and doctor.  Any rational thinking person would see that this deal sucks rocks.

THE DIM BULBS AMONG US:

In the name of preventing man made global ,warming, as of January 1, the 40 and 60 watt bulb, like their predecessors the 100 and 75 watt bulb are now illegal to be sold.  Mind you time has proven all information saying we are causing the Earth's temperature to rise is bogus.  For the last fifteen year the temperature has remained flat.  Also I n reports released at the end of 2013, their were more record low temperatures than highs.

However at the end of last year this story appeared to emphasize this point.  "Frozen Out: 98% of Stories Ignore That Ice-bound Ship Was On Global Warming Mission"

This story is again proof that the media's involved in the agenda of global warming, and that the issue is political.  BTW: The Chinese rescue ship : "Antarctic rescue ship now stuck in ice"

One more thing, Guess who makes those squiggly bulbs we will now by law be forced to use that are three time the cost of incandescent bulbs?  GE that who.  The same GE which paid no taxes on 50 billion dollars in income.  The same GE that is a major contributor to Democrats.  Crony capitalism anyone? This is what I say, what say you?
