Proposed Bazzo Says: Tolerating The Intolerable

Bazzo Says:
BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE:  Tolerating The Intolerable

These are the reasons why women’s right groups, members of  the Assembly (male and female), and Gov. Andrew Cuomo gave for giving Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver a pass after he covered up the sexual harassment of female staffers by former Assemblyman Vito Lopez:

• preventing housing discrimination against victims of domestic violence (A. 6411);

• prohibiting workplace discrimination against pregnant mothers (A. 6410);

• creating an affirmative defense for victims of sex trafficking with harsher penalties for those convicted of sex trafficking (A. 6409);

• affording military spouses more opportunities to obtain New York licensing in reduced time in order to join the work force more quickly (A. 7596);

• stricter penalties for unlawful wage discrimination (A. 6407)

• creating a zero tolerance policy across New York in regards to sexual harassment (A.6408);

• abortion bill  that would “codify federal law”  in the event Roe vs. Wade is overturned.

Why should we give Silver a pass on breaking the Assembly’s own rule when he failed to notify the Ethics Committee of Lopez’s transgressions? We should give Silver a pass for using tax dollars to pay off the women who were harassed to silence them, even though this would lead to more women being harassed? Are the above proposals more important than the victims of work place sexual harassment?

For Silver and his cronies, the answer is obviously yes. So how did this requested “tolerance” from Silver happen?

They needed Speaker Silver to get those above items passed. The items were in one bill and sent to the Senate. The Senate passed all but the last as individual pieces of legislation. So, the only way these proposals would become law was if the Assembly took them up without the abortion proposal. On this, Silver balked, saying that the women of the Assembly wanted it all. So as the legislative session closed, nothing happened.

Actually, two things happened: Hypocrisy ruled the Assembly and any credibility these male leaders had in regards to standing up for women was lost. Silver and friends scored another victory in the war on women…

We also know that if this took place in the Senate with the Republican Leader Dean Skelos, he would be gone.

When the part of the Assembly bill dealing with “creating a zero tolerance policy across New York in regards to sexual harassment (A.6408)” was brought up for discussion, Assemblyman Dr. Steve Katz stood up to point out the bizarre version of tolerance expressed by his “Democratic” colleagues. Assembly Speaker Pro Tempore Jeffrion Aubry (D-Queens) cut Katz off by turning off the mic. The stated reason was that any discussion of the covering up of workplace sexual harassment in the Assembly was not relevant. Assembly Speaker Pro Tempore Aubry had a point. In this proposal, the Assembly exempted the Legislature. Laws for thee but not for me!

We have also learned that the state attorney general has agreed that the taxpayers will fund Sheldon Silver’s legal bill, as he is being sued for his role in the cover up. The women suing argue that if Assembly Speaker Silver did not cover up Lopez’s actions, they would not have taken the position and never would have suffered the sexual harassment from Lopez in the first place.

The attorney general, who would normally defend Silver, has recused himself, because he signed off on the payoffs and non-notification of the Ethics Committee! However, he says Silver is entitled to a taxpayer-funded defense because the State Constitution allows this when a member of the Legislature is sued for actions in the course of their duties. What we are being told is that the cover-up of a crime is the duty of Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver.

Only in New York. Only New York voters are this dumb...

I am writing this column because this is the Democrat version of tolerance that Assemblyman Katz tried to bring up. However, he was silenced because bringing this up was deemed intolerable by the Democratic powers. The reason why it was deemed intolerable is because it is the Democrats who are perpetrating and then covering up crimes against women.

Until right, wrong and truth are more important than party labels to the electorate, our representatives will continue to force us to pay their legal fees and ignore their get out of jail free card.

This is what I say. What say you?

Bazzo Says: When Character Matters Most

Bazzo Says:
BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE:  When Character Matters Most

Politics is a nasty business. In the quest for power there are those who will stoop at nothing to gain power, regardless of the office they seek. Now, if that office comes with a substantial budget, salary and can affect the lives of a good deal of people, the mud tends to fly.

Also, it is true that no one goes after those who are not perceived as being a threat, and recent developments show that Dave Paganelli is a threat to the establishment. If a candidate feels confident, they will stick to issues—what they have done and what they will do in the future. If they feel a challenger is gaining however, then they will muddy up the character of the challenger. If a candidate feels they are in serious danger of losing, then the personal stuff comes out. Spouses are deficient and their kids are ugly. It is here when the voter should call into question the character of a candidate that would stoop to personal attack to achieve power.

You see above all, the character of a candidate matters most. Most people choose a person on a level of trust (though recently many have decided to vote for the best teleprompter reader). This character issue matters most in local elections where party affiliation matters least. More likely than not, the voter knows either the candidate themselves or a family member of the candidate. The voter will say I like that person and they have my vote, or the opposite. It matters not if the candidate is a rascal, if you like them, you will vote for them—look at former State Senator Vincent Leibell. In spite of investigations he was under at the time he was running for Putnam County Executive, he was “Uncle Vinny” and people elected him in a landslide. The rest is history.

So why do I bring this up? As I have said on several occasions, this summer will be anything but boring politically in Yorktown. You have multiple primaries involving all party affiliations that will be decided on Tuesday, Sept. 10. You have for the first time in recent memory, all five members of the Town Board running for one office or another. The biggest prize (it seems) is the position of highway superintendent, as there is a lot of money and power at stake.

The Republican Party by a one vote margin, nominated former Town Councilman Greg Bernard. Councilman David Paganelli sought the nomination but came up just short. Dave, being of the opinion that 50 people should not decide who will carry the Republican banner—especially by one vote and the behind the scenes maneuvering that led up that vote—has decided to let the registered Republican voters of Yorktown decide who should carry the banner. The party bosses were not happy about his decision.

As a rule, party bosses do not rule with the well-being of the people in the front of their minds. So now we are seeing the character assignation of Dave Paganelli. As most people know, when one approaches 60, dry rot sets in. So in a public statement read by fellow Councilman Nick Bianco, Dave informed the residents that he had recently had some health problems. The reason this statement was necessary was that operatives from opposing camps were spreading rumors that Dave was at death’s door. Hell, I thought the campaign slogan should be “Vote For Dave, While You Still can”—though any true blue (or is it red?) Democrat will tell you death is no excuse for not voting. The statement at the board meeting had to be made, before the unfounded rumors became fact in the minds of the voters.

Now in last week’s paper, Dave addressed another piece of mud going around about him: his finances. This is again because operatives from opposing camps have called into question Dave’s abilities. If national polls are true, then about 30 percent of Yorktowners face the same dilemma. Also like Dave, many are having difficulty through no fault of their own. Dave was in the restaurant business, which relies heavily on discretionary income. When the recession hit, on top of New York’s well known anti-business climate, not to mention the county government’s piling on of un-funded business mandates of their own, Dave had to make decisions—hard decisions—on who or what would get paid. As a business owner myself, every Saturday I have to make these same decisions. Every week most homeowners have to do the same.

Does this situation many of us face mean we are not capable of doing our duties? Absolutely not!  What it really means is that people in that situation are not afraid of doing what has to be done to survive. They don’t pass the buck and wallow in self-pity. They do what has to be done, when it has to be done. This is called character.

Another definition of character is keeping one’s word.

When Dave ran, he said he would be exactly who he said he was. He would level with you and though you may not like what he says, it would be from the heart. His letter in last week’s paper proves him to be a man of his word—he told you, you did not have to hear it from someone else first. He came forward and manned up. This is the type of person politics sorely needs, especially now.
What about the operatives that dug up the dirt and tried to smear Dave’s character with it? I would ask, would you really like those with that character flaw at the levers of power? I think not! I would not reward those who would employ people like that with my vote.

The fact that we have to cover this ground shows how far people will go to discredit others who are running for elected office. It is well known, and in fact I have stated publicly many times that I am friends with Dave. It is because of that friendship, my personal knowledge of Dave, that I can state unequivocally that there is nothing regarding his health and personal finances that would alter my opinion that he is still the best person for the position of councilman or the position of highway superintendent, which he now seeks. Honesty to the voter should be considered a virtue, not a flaw. The flaw lies in those making a column like this necessary.

This is what I say. What say you?

Bazzo Says: Being Ganged Up By The Gang Of Eight

Bazzo Says:
BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE:  Being Ganged Up By The Gang Of Eight

The Gang of Eight bill, the United States Senate’s immigration reform bill, is a fraud! We saw the exact same thing in 1986 when the federal government told the American people that they’re granting amnesty for the three million people here illegally. In exchange, we were supposed to have the borders secured. So what happened? The amnesty happened, the borders never got secured, and now three decades later, instead of three million people being granted amnesty, it’s 11 million people, according to published reports. As we have seen many times before, these official reports always low-ball numbers. I would venture a guess that this figure is also a low-ball figure.

Many—on both sides of the aisle—who are debating this issue now, were in office in 1986 and voted for that bill. Since then, they have continued to refuse to fund border security, the same security that was promised. Well, here they go again. We were promised that this time border security would be first. That has changed. Over the last few weeks, any amendment that would guarantee real border security was voted down.

Here is what the Gang of Eight bill does

It grants legalization immediately—not to be confused with citizenship. We are told we need to know who is in the “shadows” so we can document them. Just like in 1986, it promises, “sometime in the future, trust us, we promise, cross our hearts and hope to die, we’ll secure the border. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. According to the latest CBO report, if this bill is enacted we will be back here in 10 years with 30 million more people here illegally, as this present bill will only prevent 25 percent of illegal entries.

The Gang of Eight says that no one who is here illegally will be eligible for welfare. Yet, every amendment to secure that promise has been voted down in committee. Also, it is a promise that cannot be kept. The Supreme Court has ruled twice, once regarding Arizona, the other California, that once these people are here, you cannot deny them government largesse. Those making this promise know this.

As of now, we spend roughly $700 billion in federal welfare payments. In the states, it is roughly $300 billion in welfare payments. If the Gang of Eight bill is passed, the effect would be to immediately take a very large percentage of those 11 million people here illegally and make them eligible for state and local welfare. Here in New York, an amnesty state, the cost to state, county and local governments will be close to $900 million within the decade. This comes out of your pocket. This is what Senators Schumer and Gillibrand support. Do you? This is what Congresswoman Lowey and Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney would vote for given the chance.

Hey taxpayers, up yours!

This Gang of Eight bill also effectively sets up affirmative action in hiring for those who are now here illegally

They’re exempted from Obamacare. So, if you’re a business owner, and you hire an American citizen, or you hire a legal immigrant, you’re subject to a $2,000 fine per employee if you’re not providing health care under Obamacare. However, if you hire those who are granted legalization under this bill, it doesn’t cost you. It becomes an economic incentive for employers to not hire Americans or those legal immigrants, but instead hire those who came here illegally.
Imagine the harm this bill will do to the poor in this country. It will be devastating...

Here is where we are being played by the ruling class

We are being told by the House Republican leadership, card carrying members of the ruling class, that the House will not take up the Senate bill, but instead propose and pass their own which will have security first, verifiable security, make no mistake about that! It will. Now comes the game plan. Once the Senate and House pass their own immigration bills, they go to conference where both houses select representatives to hammer out the differences and come up with a unified bill that must be voted on up or down with no further amendments.

The House will select only RINO’s (Republicans In Name Only) for the conference. There will be no conservatives from the House on that committee. There will however, be a bunch of liberals from the Democrat side. All security-first provisions will be stripped out. What we will have in essence will be the Gang of Eight Bill with all the above consequences.

As I write this, the Gang of Eight Bill is 1,000 pages and weighs 24 pounds. Like Obamacare, this will not be read by our representatives before they vote on it. We are not going to be able to lock the barn door ‘till after the horses have left.

The ruling class wants this Gang of Eight bill

The Democrats want this for pure politics. Chuck Schumer was very candid in the Senate Judiciary Committee when he said, “If there is no citizenship, there can be no reform.” This is all about their game plan. They want amnesty so they can enslave millions more on their Democratic plantation of votes for food, or they want this to be voted down and use it as a political issue in 2014 and 2016.

On the Republican side, a lot of the support is political as well. After 2012, all of the Washington political consultants and all the mainstream media came to Republicans and said, “You’ve got to do better with Hispanics, and the way is to embrace amnesty.” And, look, a lot of Republicans in Washington were scared. Of course, history tells us that this political argument is complete nonsense. If you look at the last time we enacted amnesty in 1986, the next election was 1988, and the Republican share of the Hispanic vote went down by almost 10 percent. Besides, since when has the Washington political class wanted to help Republicans do anything, never mind win an election?

There is not a leading poll showing support for amnesty without having first secured the border. Like Obamacare, we are seeing legislation that does not have the support of the “governed” (or, in reality, the owned), yet the “representatives” (the owners) of the governed are pushing it through regardless. The government is winning its war against you and me. But hey, Lebron James won another NBA title, so why worry?
What a joke.
This is what I say. What say you?
