Bazzo Says: The Reality Of The New York State Budget

Bazzo Says:
BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE:  The Reality  Of The New York State Budget

Governor Cuomo, like many in the Legislature including our own State Senator Greg Ball, believes in easing the unfairness of life with other people's money.  If you think I am wrong about our State Senator, remember he voted for this new budget. But the great flaw in that theory is that you eventually run out of other people's money.  The other great flaw is, no matter the failure's of said policies, our Representatives  believe the only answer is more money and more government. See the continued increase in education and health care spending at rates higher than inflation.  This year the increase in Education is 7.5%.
The Governor and the entire Legislature are running for re-election in 2014, so this is the year they can let the liberal cat out of the bag. They have agreed to a budget of 142 billion dollars. In this new budget  They are keeping the temporary tax on high end earners that was set to expire next year.  They pushed to keep this tax till 2015 so it does not become an issue next year. . This temporary tax netted the state 2 billion dollars, monies he and the legislature will need as they pass out government goodies in usually successful efforts to buy your votes.  In the most blatant attempt to buy your vote I have ever seen in my lifetime,  the new budget allocates out of that 2 billion dollars, upwards of $350,000,000 to send families with children making between $30,000.00 - $300,000.00 next October, right before the election, a rebate check for $350.00.

This is the amount they have calculated you will sell your self esteem for.  Think about this.  If you were to offer a $350.00 check to your representative to buy their vote on a particular piece of legislation, you would be arrested and charged with attempted bribery and sent to jail. Yet when your Government sends you a check for $350.00 right before the election, it is called a rebate.   Better yet, why is it only families with children?  Why not childless couples?  Why not singles?  Why not gay couples?  After all it was only two years ago they legalized gay marriage.  Why is this not discrimination?  Is it only families with children in those income brackets whose votes are worth buying?   I am for sale, send me a check!  I'll write nice things about you.

This new budget will also have the affect, which you are to ignore, of sending more of those high end earners to States like Texas and Florida which have no state tax.  Why is that you ask?  The high end earners have a combined federal and state income tax bourdon of  55%.  By relocating to states without an income tax, the rate paid by high income earners drops to 38%.

This new budget keep the utility tax surcharge.  This cost you about $55.00 a year and big companies $30,000.00 a year.  They say this will be phased out over three years starting in 2014 when they are running for re-election.  By saying they are going to eliminate the high end tax in 2015,  phase out the utility tax surcharge and send families with children a rebate check,  they can run that lying piece of garbage commercial you see on TV that says under their watch, New York is a tax cutting, job creating, open for business New, New York.  It is your tax dollars that are paying for this garbage.

Here are a couple of facts according to the Bureau Of Labor Statistics.  1) Unemployment is still over 9%, almost two percentage points above the national average. 2) New York's Empire State Economic Development Corporation says New York saw a net gain of 50,000 jobs since 2011.  Bureau of Labor shows 42,495 businesses created starting in 2011, also a loss of 39,453 for only a net gain of 3,042 jobs.

Here is why unemployment in New York will continue to tick upwards, not down. This budget increases over three years, the minimum wage to $9.00 per hour by 2015.  This in spite of New York's fiscal policies keeping our unemployment rate a full percentage point above the national average.  What he is doing is pricing unskilled labor out of the market.  You the voter, are to judge our government on their compassion, not the results, which only hurt the low income brackets.  To prove my point, this new budget allocates tax breaks for business not to fire employees affected by this hike in the minimum wage.  These breaks do not cover the costs, so it will be meaningless, other than our Representatives going around next year saying they gave small businesses a tax break.  I can hear Senator Ball now.

Try this on for size.  Mayor Bloomberg want to set a minimum price on a pack of cigarettes at $10.50 a pack to discourage discount sales.  He figures, and rightly so that the higher price will discourage low income people from buying.  So why in good God's name would anyone but a pandering politician think by raising the cost of employment would increase employment?  What will happen if Bloomberg gets his way, black market sales, already a billion dollar business, will increase.  People are not buying less, even though Bloomberg says so, they are just not buying a New York City prices.  Just the same, small businesses will hire more off - the - books help to escape the payroll taxes, so they can pay the higher minimum wage.

This budget, like the commercial is a bunch of bull.  A study by the think tank at George Mason University, done before this budget, concluded, New York is the highest taxing state and is the worst, even more than California, in personal freedoms, meaning over regulating.  We are also the most indebted state.  There is nothing in this new budget that changes that.  There is nothing happening in Albany  that changes the prevailing wisdom that you are too stupid to live without their regulating everything you do.  So when our Governor and State Senator call you, meet you, or send you mailers saying  how much they have done for you, reply, "liar, liar, pants on fire.".  It is not what they have done for you, it is what they continue to do to you.  This is what I say, what say you?

Bazzo Says: Steve Is Still The "Katz" Meow

Bazzo Says:

BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE:  Steve Is Still The "Katz" Meow

He should hang his head in shame, then off with it!  He should resign in disgrace and be banished to the land of Nod!  What nefarious elected official are we talking about?  Censured Congressman Charles Rangel of New York? New York State Senators Huntley or Espada? Other Albany officials who stole either from us, the poor and seniors? No the nefarious elected official is State Assemblyman Steve Katz, who was ticketed for speeding and found in possession of a small amount of pot, according to State Police. In last week’s front page story on the matter, the headline read, "After pot charge, Democrats call on Katz to resign."

Both Yorktown Democratic Committee Co-Chairman Brendan Tully and Putnam County Democratic Chairman Victor Grossman called for Katz to resignation. Both cited his no vote on medical marijuana as a sign of hypocrisy. Mind you, these charges are only misdemeanors. Yet, according to a wildly inaccurate editorial in another publication, these misdemeanors are on the same moral footing as the convicted and alleged Democratic felons sitting in the legislature. If you want a lesson in true hypocrisy, look no further than that publication’s silence when Democrats in the legislature are charged with felonies. You see if it is a Democrat, then the presumption of innocence applies. It matters not if they are not our “direct” representatives. These Democrats stole from all of us (even the little people!) as it was our tax dollars.

Was Katz's vote against medical marijuana hypocritical? Depends on how you look at it. Remember, I wrote that it should be legalized in my November column, "It is time for New York to go to pot." If you are of the belief that an elected official's duty is to codify into law their personal preferences, then the answer is yes. You would also see no problem with New York City Mayor Bloomberg's attempted ban on sugary beverages in containers more than 16 ounces, putting cigarettes behind locked doors, dictating how much salt you can use, etc. You believe in the nanny state.

If you are of the belief that an elected official's job is to represent his constituency, then the answer is no. I believe that Katz's vote represented his constituency. I also believe that many in the "do not legalize it"

constituency also smoke pot. Is that hypocrisy, or is it just trying not to perpetuate a habit they cannot break?

Also, just because an elected official is not of the same mindset of a reporter does not justify lousy reporting.  Dr. Katz was not arrested, as was reported several times in the aforementioned publication. A simple check would have found he was only issued tickets. I think an apology AND a correction are in order. Let’s hope we see one from that paper this week.

Also, their editorial bringing up controversies from his past is unfair. In my past cable TV show, “Bruce The Blog Goes Bazzo,” my co-host Bruce Apar and I sat down with Steve for a full half hour and discussed the issues.

You can still see his side of the story here:

Dr. Katz is also finding out who his friends are. He is finding out that when trouble comes, political friends will distance themselves from him. Friends stand by friends regardless of what is going on. It is not the time to worry about losing votes. Besides, those voters who will hold Katz’s ticket for pot against him probably would not vote for him in the first place.

I am a friend of Dr. Katz and I stand behind him. He should not resign even if found guilty, as these are only misdemeanors and he did not hurt anybody. Besides, we are not electing Gods here, but humans. Though, the left seems to treat their politicians as Gods, Idols, celebrities, etc., but that is a different story for a different day.

Dr. Katz is right when he says the events of two weeks ago should not detract from the job he has done standing up for us in the assembly. He was elected to fight for us, and that he does! He continues to bring to light that which Assembly Leader Sheldon Silver would like to keep behind closed doors. No elected Democrat would do that for us.

Stay in their Steve and keep fighting. You are not alone. People understand. As for those who don't, as an old friend of mine would say, "Don't let the bums beat you."

This is what I say. What say you?

Bazzo Says:The Next New York State Budget, The real Cuomo

Bazzo Says:
BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE:  The Next New York State Budget, The real Cuomo

Being prophetic is easier than it looks.  It starts with the premise "that to predict the future, you must understand the past."  I was quoting myself.  I was right about the game plan of the establishment Republicans, I am right about Governor Andrew Cuomo.  Back in August 2010 I opined that Andrew Cuomo is a liberal, like his father.  The only difference was that his father was more open and honest about his liberalism.

The first clue about Andrew was as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under President Bill Clinton, he, along with the law enforcement pressure from Attorney General Janet Reno, forced banks to give mortgages to people who did not have the ability to pay them back. So long before Bush was President,  Andrew Cuomo sowed the seeds for the housing bubble that burst and caused the recession of 2008.

Then, in his first attempt to run for the governor's office, Cuomo ran on the Liberal ballot.  Andrew was responsible for the demise of the Liberal party as a ballot line when he did not garner the necessary 50,000 votes necessary to automatically keep that line on the ballot. He is the reason the Working Families Party, which endorsed Carl McCall, who also received the Democrat nod, is now a power to be reckoned with.
Andrew Cuomo, like many liberals, believes in easing the unfairness of life with other people's money. But the great flaw in that theory is that you eventually run out of other people's money.  The other great flaw is, no matter the failure's of said policies, the liberal believes the only answer is more money and more government. See the continued increase in education and health care spending at rates higher than inflation.
.Cuomo said he was against, and would fight, corruption.  Yet the only convictions are from Federal prosecutors. His history is a war against the private sector, not the public sector.  In spite of this, the public, letting the media vote for them could not wait to anoint Andrew Cuomo Governor. He, like all in the ruling class who run on change, the only change is what's left in our pockets after they are through with us.

He is running for re-election in 2014, so this is the year he can let the liberal cat out of the bag.  He will keep the temporary tax on high end earners that was set to expire next year.  He will push to keep till 2015 so it does not become an issue next year for him or the legislator's who's terms are also up next year.  This temporary tax netted the state 2 billion dollars, monies he and the legislature will need as they pass out government goodies in usually successful efforts to buy your votes.  It also had the affect, which you are to ignore, of sending more of those high end earners to States like Texas and Florida which have no state tax.

Even though he rightfully said in his inaugural address that New York can not attract business with its present tax structure, it was he who raised their taxes during the Christmas week of 2011.  So the high end earners have a combined federal and state income tax bourdon of  55%.  By relocating to states without an income tax, the rate paid by high income earners drops to 38%.

He will also get his increase in the minimum wage, proposed to increase to $9.00 per hour by 2015.  This in spite of New York's fiscal policies keeping our unemployment rate a full percentage point above the national average.  This will increase it even higher, just as the last increase did, as small businesses will shed jobs to mitigate this increase cost of labor.  What he is doing is pricing unskilled labor out of the market.  You the voter, are to judge him on his compassion, not the results, which only hurt the low income brackets.

He has successfully kicked the hydraulic-fracturing ban down the road till 2015, so that too will not be an issue next year.  His is a cynical ploy to get the votes of the ant-growth, tree hugging alarmists, who continue to scare the uniformed with false propaganda about the harmful affects of this process.  This process has been studied to death by New York State and the Federal Government for over five years.  Every study has concluded that this process can be safely done with no harm to health and the environment.

He said that his administration will end back room deals.  Yet when you look at same sex unions and antigun legislation, they were all done in the dark of the night, without time for debate.  Make no mistake about it, Andrew Cuomo is a liberal.  He will also be reelected.  As far as the Republican Party is concerned, stick a fork in them, they are done. It was death by suicide.  There is no two party system in New York and we are the worse for it.  I was right about him then, I am right about him now.  This is what I say, what say you?

Bazzo Says: The Establishment Republican Con Game

Bazzo Says:
BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE:  The Establishment Republican Con Game

Back in December 2011 I wrote in another publication about the establishment Republican plot against the Conservatives.  They ran it, and even my closest friends thought I was nuts, a conspiratist.  Basically I said

the reality is the establishment want Mitt Romney. The polls at the time show it. However the polls also showed the establishment represent about only 25% of the primary voters.

As each conservative candidate reached the top of the polls, they were sent packing by a continuous barrage of negative press.  Now it was not the Democrats feeding the media the dirt, no it was the establishment Republican leadership and their minions feeding an all too willing press the negatives of each Conservative candidate.

They wanted Romney, and by God, no matter how much mud they had to sling, they were going to get Romney.  At the end of the process, they got Romney.  If you really want to know why 3 million Republican voters who turned out in 2008 and voted for MCCain stayed home in 2012, this is where it festered.  When the establishment attacked the Conservative candidates, they also attacked the Conservatives and their beliefs.  What the establishment forgot was that they were given control of the house by the Conservatives in 2011.  The Conservatives remembered an were insulted by the ingratitude. They stayed home.

So why was the establishment so hell bent on Romney?  My theory then, and this is where my friends thought I was off the wall,  was this was not about the Preidency, no, it was about retaining control of Congress and taking Senate. The establishment believed, and rightly so, that Romney could not beat Obama as Mitt was just a younger version of McCain politically, willing to sacrifice Republican principal to appear reasonable. Wrongly believing that the key to Republican success was appealing to the Independents.

We know how that kind of candidate ends up. Romney got the Independents by a 35% margin over Obama, but lost the conservative base. They key, and from Nixon, to Reagan, to Bush 41, to Bush 43, was to get those Conservatives energized and to the polls. Ford, like Dole, McCain and Romney took Conservatives for granted and lost.

The prevailing wisdom as perpetuated by the media is that the key to winning elections is getting the Independents. Ford, like Dole, McCain and Romney  bought into this.  I was always befuddled by this. Knowing that the Media are only Democrats with by-lines (most polls show they vote Democrat by a wide margin), why would any Republican think that the advise given was going to help them defeat Democrats?

So if it was not the Presidency, but the House and Senate, why?  As always in the cynical world of politics,

it was about money and power and control. First power:, it is about committee chairmanships and the ability to dole out money and allow or prevent political appointments and legislation. Money: the establishment  knew that Obama would veto any legislation that rolls back his political agenda. They knew they would not have the votes to override. So they will go back to the voters time and time again, and blame Obama for high taxes, high energy, and socialized medicine. The final outcome, control,  was the establishment would have all that money at their disposal. The Conservative or tea party movement, if you was is a direct threat to this scheme.  If you follow the news, the ranking members of Congress are doing blame game.

As we know, Obama won and the Democrats retained the Senate.  No matter, it is the House where all revenue bills must start as stated in the Constitution. Here is where I was prophetic.  As soon as John Boehner is re-elected Speaker of the House, he removes all Conservatives from the Rules Committee and replaced them with his water carriers.

This is important as this is the committee that either allows legislation to come to the floor as is or is allowed to have amendments attacked to it.  So when legislation pertaining to either the debt limit, or continuing resolutions, which are budget bill,  that when presented to,the Senate would only need a majority  of votes, not sixty, this is how "Obama Care" got passed, it was attached to a continuing resolution bill, the House Rules Committee banned any amendments.

Now,if one were determined to stop reckless spending and/or "Obama Care" it would be with these type of bills.  By not allowing amendments, these bills as passed continue to spend recklessly and fund "Obama Care" and continue the implementation of their taxes and mandates.  The establishment get to continue to keep and control all that money.  This is the real Boehner objective.

Now cynically he and the House Leadership are hawking their new budget proposal and its key spending reductions and it repealing of "Obama Care".  It will pass the House.  It will also die the same deaths as their previous budget bills have as the Senate will not take it up. Boehner knows this.  The Leadership knows this. They will however have their blame game on and count on your stupidity to believe it.

When Boehner was asked last Wednesday (03/13/13) on Hannity's radio show, why he did not do this on the recently passed continuing resolution bill, he asked Sean "do you risk the full faith and credit of the United States over "Obama Care"?  This was a cow pie question.  He knows damn well that the full faith and credit was and is never in jeopardy if the government shuts down.  By constitutional law, the debt service must be paid.  That total is 25 billion dollars an month.  The federal government in taxes, fees and surcharges takes in 161 billion dollars a month.  So the answer to the question asked by Boehner is a resounding yes!  Shut down the government if you have to.  You were put in power to stop this madness not perpetuate it!

I was right in 2011, I am proving to be right now. Boehner and the establishment want the money, all of it!

If you want to seethe definition of quisling, look no further than House Speaker John Boehner.  If you really want to know who is giving you the shaft and demand you give them your votes, look no further than Boehner and the rest of the establishment Republican Party.  This is what I say, what say you?
