Bazzo Says: A Year Of Mixed Emotions

Bazzo Says:

BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE: A Year Of Mixed Emotions

We have come to the end of another year.  It was a year of mixed emotions. It had extreme sadness due to loss of someone special who was part of my life for 15 years on almost a daily basis. She passed away unexpectedly, and I still feel it. Don’t know why. Maybe it was the suddenness of it all.

I was still feeling the after effects of my accident from November 2012. As this year progressed, the economic impact on business and my life was felt to a greater degree than I imagined. However, unexpectedly and great fully, the ad place in this paper generated enough business to see me and my partner through the roughest times. To you, readers of this paper, a heartfelt thanks from my partner and I.

As a rule, in tough times one finds out who their true friends are. The dark clouds kept forming over the year, and again, my partner and I wish to thank those who came to blow them away. Our loyal base of friends, both business and political, never deserted us. Without Ann, David, Domenic, Eric and Eric, Chris, Dart, Bryan and Brett, and the loving support of my family, I do not see us ending the year on our feet, at times bowed but never broken.

This year I married Tommy, my partner of 26 years, and was lucky enough for my mother to still be here to be part of it. She was my ring bearer. Even though the wedding was in September, it was the high point of the year. To have my friend David Paganelli perform the ceremony, to celebrate it with our closest friends, some who made time in spite of being in the heat of a political battle, with fine food and drinks at Don Tommaso’s in Yorktown made a special occasion, extra special.

Politically, the year sucked rocks. We faced in New York example after example of corruption. If it were not for the federal prosecutors, some sort of justice would never be served. If left to New York’s judicial system, the extent of this betrayal of the public trust would have been swept under the rug. Still after example after example, Albany fights tooth and nail any meaningful reform.  The only thing they want is public financing of campaigns so they can get their greedy hands on more of our tax dollars. They know that on Election Day you will still pull the lever for them if they are of your political bent. They know you are only against corruption if it is the other party.

We have a governor who is an out and out phony, and no opposition party to challenge him. For in New York, whoever is seen as the front runner in the Republican party, the Democrats can count on the media to take that person down. In New York, and also nationally, we have a media that is basically stenographers and Democrats with bylines. Only a fool would believe they would give credence to any idea that would actually help Republicans win.

In Washington, we have a government at war with the people. Don’t believe me? Fine. Believe Gallup. In a Gallup poll released last week, 72 percent of Americans say that “big government” (aka liberalism) is a bigger threat to the country than “big labor” or “big business.” That represents a record high since the polling outfit began asking the question nearly 50 years ago. The partisan breakdown of the poll shows that 92 percent of Republicans named government as America’s greatest threat, along with 71 percent of Independents, compared with 56 percent of Democrats who believe our ever expanding leviathan of a government is the biggest threat facing the nation.

See, Republican, Independent or Democrat—it matters not. The ruling class is only out to increase its power and hold on elective office. It demonizes those of us who wish to scale back the reach of government as haters. The upper crust treats us with contempt and continually lies to us, all with the help of the media. As more and more of these lies are exposed, they circle the wagons to protect their hold over us.

As we begin the New Year, I urge you, as I do, to do your own research. Do not believe that history starts when you wake up in the morning. Do not let the ruling class re-write the history of this past year.

The IRS did go after political enemies.

The government still spies on its citizens.

The government did go after reporters who dared write the truth.

The Democrats partially shut down the government.

The Republicans were correct in their attempts to delay Obamacare and the president did lie to the people.

The Republicans are lying to the people when they say this new budget deal will cut the budget in the out years. This congress cannot hold future congresses to this budget deal. History has proven this to be true.

Day after day, we are watching the rule of law eviscerated. In 2014, it is up to you to be engaged. Defeat those who are part of this—primarily those who have voted for this. The phrase “taking our country back” is mocked in the press and by the talking heads. However, statewide and nationally, those are the stakes. Get your arms around that and you, in this upcoming year, can change the trajectory.

Have a happy, safe and healthy new year.

This is what I say. What say you?
