Bazzo Says: Being Ruled And Fooled By The Ignorant

Bazzo Says:

BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE:  Being Ruled And Fooled By The Ignorant

No matter what happens or happened, no one saw their taxes go down.  No government agency will get less money this year, no even in defense.  What ever you have been told about "fiscal cliffs'". it has been breeched well before this present "crisis".   Your children and grandchildren will be paying debts we have already incurred.  Government spending is out of control and no agreement even comes near to addressing it.

As of this writing, your taxes have either stayed the same or gone up.  If your taxes have stayed the same, this in "Obama speak" is a tax cut.   If you make under $250,000.00 and your taxes went up, fear not,  Your friendly neighborhood Obama along with Congress will pass tax relief for you by the end of January, just in time for the State Of The Union Address.  If you make more than $250,00.00 you are screwed.  This is not by accident, but by design.  If you have investment income or sell any property, you are screwed.  Also none of this will for one moment reign in the out of control debt.

The main stream media will tell you it is the Republican's fault.  You will believe this.  No matter that Obama has not presented a budget that can garner one Democrat vote in two years.  No matter that the Senate which has been controlled by Democrats since 2006, have not done their constitutional duty and presented a budget in three years.  No matter that the Republican Congress has passed budgets that have gotten Democrat votes, (not many, but more than Obama's budgets) and the Senate has not even allowed discussion on them.   You will be told and you will believe this is the Republicans fault.   Fact is it is your fault for being too lazy to find out the truth for yourself even though it is you who are footing the bill.

The truth is out there at the click of a mouse.  You will be told that there are trillions of dollars cut over ten years.  This is government speak for the ignorant.  Fact is no Congress can bind another Congress to these kind of agreements.  Each Congress has the constitutional duty to make a budget every year.  This means that any spending or cuts to spending are only good for the budget that is passed and signed into law.  All future spending or cuts to spending in what are called the "out years" are a fallacy as they are unenforceable.   That is why the so-called "Clinton surpluses"  as far as the eye can see were a total lie.  Nobody spent those surpluses, as they were never there to begin with.  Get it through your heads, you can not bind future congresses, period!

No government agency will get less money.  Every year it is assumed that each agency will se a minimum of 8% growth.  So when you are told there are cuts, "draconian" or not, it is the rate of growth that is cut.  Being that each agency feels entitled to its rate of growth, when or if they do not get it, they feel they have been cut, even though they still are getting more this year than last.  It is if you make a hundred dollars a week last year, were expecting to make $120.00 a week this year but only get $110.00, in government speak, they cut your pay ten dollars a week, even though you are making ten dollars a week more this year than last.

As the last election showed, you have bought into the class warfare argument, you actually believe that by taxing the rich, your life will improve.  Remember, rich in government speak is $250,000.00 a year.  Now ask yourself, how many poor people create jobs, or at this time are employing you?  So now you know it is the rich that invest in business or create business.  They are also the one's with disposable income that buy jewelry, high end cars or eat at fancy restaurants.  To provide those, businesses and jobs are created.

So now we increase taxes on the rich.  The same rich that employ you.  Where is that money going to come from?  Under the bosses mattress?  As businesses are created to make money, not jobs or benefits, more likely than not, it will come from you, either in the form of the raise you will not get, the benefits that will be cut, or even your job, which will become expendable.  So rather than your life improving by taxing the rich, you too are screwed.

This government does not have an income problem.  It has a spending problem.  It spends 1.2 trillion dollars more than it takes in,. It has a 16 trillion dollar outstanding liability problem.  Yet because you bought into the class warfare argument, your representatives have no intention of getting a handle on spending.

Of course you will be told that if you cut spending, social security and medicare benefits will be affected. You will have dirty air and water.  Your food will be poisoned.  Your schools and roads will collapse.  This because they will take from the money that rightfully belongs to you, not from the bloated bureaucracies that run those agencies.  This election was won and we are being ruled by the ignorant.  Right now they out number the informed.  You have two years to change that equation.  Now is the time to educate yourself.  This is what I say, what say you?

Bazzo says: A Time Of Tragedy Should Not Be Viewed As A Political Opportunity

Bazzo Says:
BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE:  A tragedy should not be turned into a political opportunity

Here goes another commentary on the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, in Newtown, Conn. A couple of observations:

Within hours of the shooting, talking head at MSNBC, Alex Wagner, said, “Hopefully, this shooting will result in political capital to reform gun laws. It is hopefully—and we say this every single time we cover one of these things. There’s gotta be some kind of measurable change, some kind of reaction. One would hope there would be some political capital to reform the way in which we handle gun and gun violence in this country.”

(source: rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2012/12/14/left_mobilizes_to_politicize_school_shooting)

Parents not even notified, and the “blame the gun” lobby was already talking about the “political capital” this tragedy presents. In the first press conference after the shooting, when asked about tougher gun laws, team Obama got it right. “Now is not the time to discuss this subject, there will be time enough in the future,” said White House Spokesperson Jay Carney.

It is another example of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanual’s axiom, “never let a crisis go to waste.”  The “blame the gun” lobby just can’t help themselves. To them this is not a tragedy, but an opportunity. No matter where one falls in the Second Amendment debate, there will be time enough after the first of the year to discuss why this shooting took place and what can be learned from it. Right now is the time to let those affected by this tragedy morn.

The sad fact is that this tragedy could not be prevented. The guns themselves were bought legally. Another sad fact of life, if someone is determined to commit a nefarious crime, you cannot stop them.

Unless one is willing to tear the Second Amendment to shreds, we are a country that allows it’s people to own guns. One must remember the reason this amendment was included.  It was to allow the people to protect themselves from the government. However, no right is absolute. After all, despite speech protections, one cannot yell “fire” in a crowded theatre when there is none. I really cannot see why the ownership of assault weapons by private citizens deserves protection.

Still, the reality is that the only thing gun control laws prevent is honest people from acquiring guns. People with bad intentions, as proved in this latest tragedy, will get their hands on weapons. Other than the banning of assault weapons, which, to my chagrin, was allowed to expire for political reasons in 2004, there are enough laws to control guns. Enforcing those laws is the problem.

Look at New York City. I think that city has found an effective way of getting illegal guns off the street. It is called “stop and frisk.” Yet, this proven tactic is now being challenged in court by the same people who shed their crocodile tears over this latest tragedy. There is a fine line between the rights of the individual and the rights of society. Since the first right this country was founded on was the right to life, followed by liberty and pursuit of happiness, and the first duty of government is the protection of its citizens, I say the rights of society and the right to life outweigh the rights of the individual.

Finally, I must take issue with certain politicians and school administrators. They talk about keeping those suffering loss in our prayers. Pray to who?  Pray where?  You are not allowed to pray in school. They have done their utmost to remove any mention of religion from schools, under the mistaken belief that there is in the Constitution a “wall of separation” between church and state.

We were founded by principals of Jewish and Christian beliefs. Some of our founders may have been Agnostics, none were atheists, in spite of history re-writes alluding to such. Our Creator is found all over our coveted documents. God is even mentioned on our money. Point is, God is not someone who you mention when it suits your purposes. The phrase “thoughts and prayers” should not be invoked just because it sounds right at the time.

I do not question the sincerity of their private belief in a deity and prayer. I question their public positions at this time, when in all other times they do their best to remove this moral underpinning from discussion on school grounds.

At this time, let victims of this tragedy mourn. We can look for answers next year as it will soon enough upon us.

This is what I say. What say you?

Bazzo Says: It Is Truly A Most Wonderful Time Of Year

Bazzo Says:
BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE:  It Is Truly A Most Wonderful Time Of Year

It is that time of year, when hopes and dreams become actions as people listen to their better angels.  Kindness, courtesy and manners surface to refute the cynic’s view that ours is a cold, dark world. People go that extra mile for others, as was described in last week’s editorial written by this paper's publisher, describing a last minute production change.

Yeah, it is that time. It is Christmas.

Question: Would these same things happen if it were not "that time of year"?

Answer: Yes, it's just that we notice it more now. How do I know? Well, look at all the good deeds that people do when disaster strikes during other times of the year. People open their hearts and wallets in abundance. Good people will do good things, regardless of the time of year.

I say this despite the fact that I hang around with politicians and cops, which feeds a cynicism that must be fought every day. People say I write angry. It is true. I look around the world I inhabit and I get angry. Then I write. It is a cathartic experience. It keeps the evil gene at bay. It is a fight every day not to become what it is I despise the most.

However, since it is the holiday season with the New Year approaching, it is natural to look back at the past year, and how our lives have changed.

For me, 2012 got off to a pretty uneventful start. My taxi business struggled, but survived. The business started with three cars, now we are down to two. This is because at 5 a.m. on Nov. 3, I hit a deer on the Taconic State Parkway between Routes 202 and 132. Turns out that the old saying about most accidents happening a mile from home is true after all. Guess I should have moved.

The car died. I walked away with a cracked rib.

As bad a situation as it is, it could be worse. I could have had a passenger at the time, or even have hit another car. Truly, God watched over me that morning. So my year ends with a struggle to find another minivan at a reasonable price. A minivan can be replaced. A life on the other hand, cannot.

In this never-ending joke of an economic recovery, people are holding on to their cars longer. So, as the rule of supply and demand dictates, the available stock is limited, causing prices to be higher than normal. In the end, my partner and I should overcome this obstacle with help from our friends and a little patience. What I am certain of however, is that there will be no help from the government, as it did not build our business. Truth be told, will all the onerous fees and regulations, the continued licensing of anyone, the government has done its best to hurt our business. For many of us business owners, it sometimes feels as if the government likes to play Scrooge 365 days a year…

Health-wise, things pretty much stayed the same in 2012. I am not 20 anymore, or even 30, and I have to live with that. When the doctor at the hospital came to tell me I was going home after the accident (after waiting around for seven hours), he looked over my tests. As I said earlier, the tests showed a cracked rib. As he perused my medical history and all that ails me after 57 years on this planet, he said I should not be as healthy as I am. Due to the fact that I have been smoking since my teens, the "book" says I should be in worse shape. His tone did not imply he was happy to tell me this good news.

As a columnist, I started the year with one publication and ended with another. My new bosses, Brett Freeman, the publisher of Halston Media; and Bryan Fumagalli, the editor of this paper, are wonderful additions to my life. As for TV, I began the year with a cable show with one co-host and now I have a new show with a new co-host, Domenic Volpe. The show—"THE VOPLE/BAZZO REPORT”—can be seen every Wednesday night at 9:30 on channel 74. The Dec. 19 and Dec. 26 shows are our Christmas/New Year’s show, and will feature a very special guest, Bruce Apar. This time of year it is always special to spend some time with friends.

I started the year with one neighbor, ended with another, my brother and his wife. Being from a small, close family, it is nice to be close again. My mother started the year living in South Carolina and ends the year living with us. It is a time of joy, for after 22 years, we got to spend a Mother's Day and Thanksgiving together. We will get to spend Christmas and New Year's together. She rides with me in the cab three or four times a week and the customers love her. This year also marked the 25th anniversary of sharing my life with the same person. It is a beautiful world.

I will continue to rail and write against the world of politics and its self-serving inhabitants. That said, I would like to close with the following, as penned by the late author, Max Ehrmann   "Desiderata ":

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars.
You have a right to be here
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Be at peace with God, whatever you conceive him to be
And whatever your labors and aspirations, keep peace in your soul
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams it is still a beautiful world
Be cheerful
Strive to be happy.

I say Merry Christmas. What say you?

Bazzo Says:In The Land Of Fools, Albany Reigns Supreme

Bazzo Says:
Bazzo Says:
BY ANTHONY J. BAZZO
OF YORKTOWN NEWS
TITLE:  In The Land Of Fools, Albany Reigns Supreme

THE STATE OF OUR GOVERNOR:

Governor Andrew Cuomo is a fraud.  When he took office he said that being the highest taxing state is no way to attract business.  Then in December of 2011 he raises taxes on those very people and businesses that create jobs.  In the latest reports the average gallon of gas country wide is $3.32 per gallon.  New York, through onerous regulation and taxes has the highest national average at $3.82 a gallon.  Taxes and regulation add a full dollar to each gallon.  Our electric rates also lead the nation.  When he took office unemployment was 5.1%, now according to the latest figures, it is 8.2%, well over the national average.  The real numbers when one includes the under employed, and those who stopped looking is 11%.  You can't blame Bush.  You can't blame Obama.  You can't blame Hurricane Sandy.  The blame rest solely with this Governor, this Legislature and it's economic and regulatory policies.

He is still hell-bent on closing Indian Point  and the 2,000 mega-watts it produces.  He says it is dangerous because it lays on a fault-line. One must remember the earthquake in Fukushima, Japan he notes.  What he fails to note was that it was not the earthquake that caused the damage, it was the tsunami that followed and flooded the plant.  Indian Point was built to handle a 6 point earthquake.  Records show the most powerful earthquake to hit new York was 5.1.  I also do not believe the Hudson River is in danger of forming a tsunami.   Study after study have shown Indian Point to be safe from that kind of catastrophe.

His answer to the loss of power is an underground pipeline to provide electricity to lower New York from Canada.  It will run under the Hudson.  Remember the millennium pipeline.  That was to bring natural gas to our area and run under the Hudson.  That never happened and Westchester County's government led by former County Executive Andy Spano can be thanked for that.  The only place in New York that would allow a pipeline is fantasy land, and there Coumo is King.   The only thing his policy will do is drive up your electric bill as we would have to get power from other states.  If that becomes undoable because of more likely than not lawsuits brought to you by the flat Earth people, that be prepared for California style black-outs.  These will affect even you who  who support our King and spend your days trying to bring us back to the dark ages.

He has postponed for another 90 days the writing of the rules that would allow hydraulic- fracturing.  He has also revised the area that this process would be allowed.  It think we are down to about an Acer of land at the souther tip of New York that borders Pennsylvania where it would be allowed.  He says we must study the health affects.  He says science not politics will decide.  He is not being truthful.  The science has been decided.  Federal and State.   Hydraulic- fracturing is safe. After going on now for almost five years this science is settled.   Look around.  Neighboring states that allow it are flourishing.  Even former Governor of Pennsylvania Ed Rendell (a Democrat who does not even wear red ties) all but called Cuomo a fool for not allowing it.  Studies sitting on our Governor's desk  show a 20,000 private sector union jobs would be created almost at once.  Plus another 20,000 private sector support businesses and jobs.  Plus millions upon millions in taxes, fees and surcharges.  This is being decides by politics and only politics.

For all his talk about how we must address climate change after "Sandy", his polices regarding energy reek of hypocrisy.  Both nuclear energy and natural gas are better for the atmosphere than coal or oil.  Yet he wishes to prevent our own State from using it's own recourses of clean energy.  Of course he has no problem with our importing from mother states and countries energy from the sources.  Not to mention the higher costs to us.

THE STATE OF OUR LEGISLATURE:

On Tuesday December 4 2012 the New York State Republican Party died by suicide.  Dean Skelos (R) head of the New York State Senate in a desperate bid to hold on to power signed an agreement with five renegade Democrats to form a coalition leadership of the Senate.  This coalition is lead by Jeff Klein (D).   Together they will share leadership powers, decide who will head committees and what legislation will be voted on.

Look for as part of the bargain an increase in the minimum wage that reports show will kill over 22,000 jobs (a conservative estimate) for age groups 16-29 and an estimated 2 billion dollar cut in economic out put.  These are based on what happened when they last increased the minimum wage, mind you that was before the recession started.  In this economic climate the damage will be worse.   They must increase the minimum wage for it is only these low paying jobs available because of their opposition to better paying jobs.

By the way, there is now a machine produced by Momentum Machines based in San Francisco that can make 360 hamburgers an hour.  This is estimated to do the work of three full-time employees.  So as legislation increases the cost of employment, which by the way is the highest expenditure of most small businesses, look for these fast food out-lets to turn to technology to trim costs.   Remember businesses do not open to create jobs and pay benefits, they open to make money and will hire only those necessary to achieve that goal.

Look for public financing of campaigns as part of campaign reform.  As new York City has shown, this is a sure path to corruption.  Remember campaign reform is to be viewed as incumbency protection,  Do you really think those in power wish to make it easier for the challenger?  If you do, you too are a resident of fantasy land.

This is being sited as a positive step in bi-partisanship.  King Andrew has said this will enable his progressive (read liberal) agenda.  I have written many times that in Albany, there is not a spit of difference between the Republican and Democrats.  This agreement codifies it.  This is the Democrat definition of bi-partisanship.  Republicans drop all their ideals and principals and give Democrats what they want.

You are witnessing power above principal.  What is worse, the Republican leadership is so sure that its members will rollover and eat this cow pie, that it no longer feels the need for the appearance that the party has any principals left.   State Senator Greg Ball will get a double slice.

So as you wonder why you can't get a job, are paying ridiculously high prices for gas and electricity.  As you wonder why New York is last as a business friendly state.  As you wonder why those who can re-locate do, look no farther than our Governor and Legislature.  Then look in the mirror, for you voted for this.  This is what I say, what say you?
