In My Opinion: The King Has No Clothes

Bazzo at Work
By Anthony J. Bazzo
Question: Who will be the first to say the king has no clothes? If you read or listen to the common template, our Governor, Andrew Coumo, is the best to come along since sliced bread. On time budgets. Gay marriage. Trying to de-criminalize pot. The "students lobbyist". No new taxes. Property tax caps. The list goes on and on. Reminds me of former Governor Pataki's first two tears. Like Pataki's first two years, this governor is now swinging hard left, but will also try to get more 4 year terms on these first two years.
We are being coaxed into believing that our government is getting smaller. Where? How? The budget is still 132 billion dollars. Taxes were raised on high income earners during the 2011 Christmas holiday. The two most powerful special interests, schools and health care got more money.
The "Tri-borough Amendment" still stands. This is where to balance of negotiating tilts towards the public sector unions by allowing them to all benefits of expired contracts, including built in raises, while stone walling talks of new contracts. Not one un-funded mandate has bit the dust. The highest court in the state, The Court of Appeals, ruled that teachers have no right to privacy in regards to evaluations when it ruled that those evaluations be made public. Yet, this Governor, against the ruling of the court, state that teachers have a right to privacy when he, along with the legislature, siding with the unions, enacted a limited public's right to know how the teachers are evaluated.
This Governor has inferred that the minimum wage should jump from $7.50 an hour to $8.50. He is in a box on this because by standing in the way of good paying private sector union and non-union jobs he must raise salaries of low paying jobs. How is he standing in the way of good paying jobs? By standing in the way of hydrofracking in the Southern Tier of New York desperate for jobs. By keeping out good jobs, he increases dependence on government with low paying jobs. Think food stamps. Rental assistance. Medicaid. All these keep people dependent on government for their daily existence and insure votes to keep those giving assistance in power.
New York in spite of what you are lead to believe is not open for business. It is still giving the people the business. If you think I am wrong, just wait till after the November elections when a special session of the legislature will be called to give themselves a raise form the now $79,500.00 to over $100,000.00. You read it here first, the king has no clothes. This is my opinion, you may beg to differ.

In My Opinion: Fracking Is Safe

Dear Readers:

Abundant natural gas obtained through hydro-fracking, which is a process of pumping water mixed with less than a fraction of a percent of chemicals into wells (not water) 3,000 feet or more below the surface, considerably below the water tables, has made the alternative energy industry totally non-competitive. This single fact, striking a stake into the heart of man-made global warming ideology is why elected officials in New York and those seeking to be elected are against "fracking".

There is no scientific reason to suspect hyped up environmental issues will occur because of "fracking". This is not a new industry. It has been perfected over 60 years to make it economically feasible and safer then you are lead to believe. In the three place recently in the news, Wyoming, Pennsylvania and Texas where the Federal Environmental Protection Agency conducted extensive and expensive studies, the "no-stone-left-unturned" studies proved that "fracking did not threaten drinking supplies. This is the "Obama EPA which is intent on discouraging all forms of fossil fuels that commissioned these studies. In spite of their anti-fossil fuel mission, they have acknowledged there is not one documented case where "fracking" caused polluted drinking water.

So why the rush to stop "fracking?" Easy, these same elected officials and wanna-be's who have proven themselves economic illiterates, are also energy illiterates. This is why they can be bamboozled by the scare tactics of the Sierra Club and propaganda films like "Gasland". They totally disregard the scientific studies conducted by the Federal EPA. It does not fit their template. They are worshiping at the alter of "green energy". One must ask themselves, "which one of these "green energy" energy alternatives will lift an airplane off the ground? Which one will light our populated cities like New York? Which one will reliably, efficiently and most of all economically keep us warm in winter, cool in summer, and get us from point A to point B/ The answer is none. Fossil fuel is the one means to accomplish all of the above.

Their obstructionism is the cause of our higher than necessary energy prices. Yes, their taxes also play a part, however when you artificially tighten supplies, you increase cost. This is purposeful. Even though it is against the best interests of the people, these officials and wanna-be's are determined to "green" us into bankruptcy.

Our problem in the area this column reaches, is that there are no alternative proposals between parties. Just degrees of the same ideas. We are left without choices in energy and economics because both party's candidates drink from the same Kool-aid and are more intent on self-service then public service. This is truly sad as November comes, when the issues are economic or energy, no matter who you elect, you lose. This is my opinion, you may beg to differ.

In My Opinion:What Wisconsin Mean To New York

Dear Readers:

Governor Scott Walker won his re-call vote in Wisconsin. He not only won, but he cleaned the clock of his opponents. Yes, I said his opponents because he not only ran against and beat Democratic challenger, Tom Barrett, he beat unions, municipal, private, in state and across the country who sent money and people.

He did this despite a greater voter turnout than 2010 and also by a greater margin of victory. He not only won by more than the margin of polling error, he won by more than the margin of fraud. If you do not think same day registration and voting, which Wisconsin allows, lends itself to fraud, you are nuts.

You are being told that Walker won by out spending his opponents. Not quite true. He did spend more money, but if you count the man power shipped into Wisconsin by the union's, the spending is the same. Time is money. What won was ideas. His idea that municipal unions should shoulder a slightly higher bourdon of health care and benefits cost then at present won. His idea that government should not shoulder the responsibility of collecting union dues, won. The fact that union membership has seen a sharp drop since that law was passed and the Walker got 38% of union votes shows these ideas won the day.

The fact that the sky did not fall should mean something to the states across the country. The re-call election should have ramifications across the country. It should, but it won't. This was a state election with state issues at stake. Yes, these issues are common in other states, but not the political will. Can you name two governor's with the same backbone to stand up to the daily beatings since 2011 from the Democrats, unions and stenographers in the media and stay the course? Remember the opening of the poem "If" by Rudyard Kippling, "If you can hold your head when all about you are losing their and blaming it on you. If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, but make allowances for their doubting too."

This election will mean nothing in New York. We have not one, one! elected official with the political will to stand up to the public sector special interests. Not one with the political courage to propose actual meaningful reform. We get the word reform in legislation, but not the meat of reform. Follow the money. See how much the special interests contribute to our representatives. They put in caps, but do not reform mandates to make those caps meaningful. Whatever tier reforms they enact, the legislature just goes back when you are not looking and nullify them with new legislation. How do you think we got to Tier VI?

It is all a crock and they all play the game. We have Republican and Democrat parties with not a spit of difference between them. Not when it comes to the special interests. You must be the difference. You must show, like the Wisconsin voter that you will support with your vote those who will stand up to the special interests. You will oppose, no matter the party those who side with the special interests. Follow the money, follow their votes, ignore the words. This is my opinion, you may beg to differ.

In My Opinion: Where have all the monied people gone?

Bazzo at Work
By Anthony J. Bazzo
The facts are in. New York is the only state in the union to have more of its residents unemployed this year than last. It even beat California. This is an honor I can do without. This is also expected. According to the Tax Foundation, we have lost since the beginning of the new century 3.4 million high wage earners (minimum $200,000.00 annual income), taking 119 billion dollars in taxable income with them. Those are the people who create jobs and invest in business.
You may say, "we are in a recession caused by President Bush, so what can we do about it?” You would be wrong. Yes, we are in a recession, but New York's confiscatory taxes are the cause. These people did not stop earning their incomes; they are earning them in less taxing states such as Florida, Texas and the Carolinas. If taxes were a product of national policies, the high wage earners could not make their money in any state.
In a related poll, New Yorkers are giving Governor Cuomo the highest approval ratings not seen since past Governor Pataki's right after 9/11. Both ratings have in common approval based on hype, not on fact. Pataki got his hand slapped by asking for 54 billion dollars in federal aid instead of the more reasonable 22 billion dollars we got. Past New York City Mayor Guliani did the heavy lifting, while Pataki tried pigging out at the federal trough.
Cuomo's ratings are based on a perception of two on-time budgets with no new taxes. The truth is that in December 2011, he and the legislature did raise taxes on high end earners. You are told these people really did not see an increase because they are paying less than what was first proposed, but more than they would have had if the "millionaire's tax" were left to expire without the legislature's tweaking it.
In this case, millionaire is considered someone making at least $200,000.00 a year. No matter how you slice it, high-end earners saw a tax increase and the increase was used to balance this year's budget. The high-end earners are our greatest export; our tax policy is driving them out.
In this region, we have elected officials running for re-election or the first time who are clinging to Cuomo's coattails, saying the state is heading in the right direction. On top of this, you should thank them very much for the course we are on. If you think higher unemployment and less job creators and investors is the right direction, you should vote for those who have accomplished it. If you, like me, want those in power who will enact policy to keep discourage creators and investors from leaving, and hopefully import some we lost, then vote those officials out of office.
This is my opinion, you may beg to differ.
